The readings and their message
Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16
The time spent by the Israelites in the desert was very
important for their formation. The Lord was educating them,
taming their self– sufficiency, and putting them to test. The main
teaching is learning that the person depends mainly on God and
not on the material things that surround him. What supports a
person is the Word of God. This word is what produces the manna
and all that is necessary to sustain our existence. It is what gives
life.
1 Corinthians 10:16-17
The food of the pagan altars linked participants with
transcendent beings, or the gods, invoked in the worship. The Jews
expressed their communion and belonging to Yahweh by
participating in the food of the altar. In the same way, Christians,
in sharing the bread and wine, enter into communion with Christ
and become one body. That is why the warning is given not to eat
from the sacrifice of pagan altars; the union is with Christ, not
with the gods.
John 6:51-58
The Eucharist dimension of the passage is clear. Here it speaks
of eating and drinking, of flesh and blood, of living, and of
remaining. There are also references to the redemptive sacrifice.
There are references to the multiplication of the loaves. The
Eucharist is the bread of life and brings with it the promise of
living forever. The road or condition for such eternal life is to eat
this bread. On the other hand, the manna is remembered and
ensures that what we have here is the bread of heaven; not like the
one their parents ate and died. This bread gives everlasting life.
Next week our diocese will take
up the Peter’s Pence Collection,
which provides the Holy Father
with the funds he needs to carry
out his charitable works around
the world. The proceeds benefit
the most disadvantaged: victims
of war, oppression, and disasters.
Join our Holy Father as a witness of charity to those who are
suffering.
Thank you to all those who made our Gran
Kermes a great success. We raised a grand
total of $ 9,498.00.
We are grateful to all the volunteers, groups
and ministries who worked to make the Gran
Kermes such an enjoyable time for our parish.

Our beloved Fr. Patrick is completing his term as
associate Pastor of St. Anthony’s, and has been
assigned by Archbishop Gomez as associate
Pastor of St. Peter Claver Church in Simi Valley
starting July 1, 2014. We will miss Fr. Patrick very
much. He has touched and helped us all by his
devotion and compassion, his warmth and joy, and
his outstanding teaching and preaching of the
Gospel. We thank God for Fr. Patrick who is such
a wonderful priest and friend. We pray for him, as
once again he says “Yes!” to God, bringing his
great talents and goodness to the service of his
new parish.
You are invited to Fr. Patrick’s farewell reception
on Sunday June 29, 2014 at 6:00 pm in the
auditorium.

Did you know that bullying is a form of abuse,
and therefore is forbidden in our Catholic
schools? Bullying typically consists of direct
behaviors, such as teasing, taunting,
threatening, hitting, shoving and stealing. But
it might also be indirect, such as spreading
rumors that cause victims to be socially isolated through
intentional exclusion. Cyberbullying, which involves the use of
the Internet or mobile phones to send inappropriate messages
and images to or about others, is also behavior that is not
tolerated in our Catholic schools. If you suspect bullying of a
child at school, please contact the school principal with your
concerns.

El hostigamiento es una forma de abuso
¿Sabía usted que el hostigamiento (bullying)
es una forma de abuso y por lo tanto está
prohibido en las escuelas católicas? El
hostigamiento suele consistir en bromas
pesadas, burlas, amenazas, golpes, empujones y robo. Pero
también puede ser indirecta, como la difusión de rumores que
provoca que las víctimas se aíslen socialmente porque se
sienten excluidas por la sociedad. El acoso cibernético, que
implica el uso de la Internet o los teléfonos celulares para
enviar mensajes o imágenes inapropiadas de personas o a
personas también es un comportamiento que no se tolera en
nuestras escuelas católicas. Si usted sospecha que algún
estudiante es víctima de hostigamiento, inmediatamente
comunique sus preocupaciones al director de la escuela. Para

Nuestro querido padre Patrick está completando su
plazo como Pastor Asociado de San Antonio, y ha
sido asignado por el Arzobispo Gómez como Pastor
Asociado de la iglesia San Pedro Claver en Simi
Valley, comenzando el 1o de julio, 2014. Vamos a
extrañar mucho al padre Patrick. El padre nos ha
conmovido y nos ha ayudado con su devoción y
compasión, con su calidez y alegría, y su
excepcional enseñanza y predicación del
evangelio. Agradecemos a Dios por el padre
Patrick por ser un sacerdote y amigo excepcional.
Oremos por él, ya que nuevamente el dice "Si!" a
Dios, al llevar sus grandes talentos y bondad al
servicio de su nueva parroquia.

Las lecturas y su mensaje
Deuteronomio 8:2-3, 14-16
El tiempo que pasaron los israelitas en el desierto fue muy
importante para su formación. El Señor iba educándolos,
domando su autosuficiencia y poniéndolos a prueba. La
enseñanza principal es aprender que la persona depende
principalmente de Dios, y no de lo material que puede haber en
su alrededor. Lo que sostiene a la persona es la Palabra de Dios.
Esa palabra es la que produce el mana y todo lo necesario para
sostener la existencia. Es la que da vida.
1 Corintios 10:16-17
La comida de los altares paganos vinculaba a los participantes
con los seres transcendentes, o los dioses, invocados al culto. Los
judíos expresaban su comunión y pertenencia a Yahve
participando de la comida del altar. Del mismo modo, los
cristianos, al compartir el pan y el vino, entran en comunión con
Cristo y se convierten en un solo cuerpo. Y es por eso que se da
la advertencia de no comer de los sacrificios de los altares
paganos: la unión es con Cristo, no con los dioses.
Juan 6:51-58
La dimensión eucarística del pasaje esta clara. Aquí se habla
de comer y beber, de carne y sangre, y de habitar, permanecer.
Hay también referencias al sacrificio redentor. Hay, por lo tanto,
referencias a la multiplicación de los panes. La Eucaristía es el
pan de la vida, y lleva consigo la promesa de vivir para siempre.
El camino o condición para tal vida eterna es comer de este pan.
Se recuerda, por otra parte, el mana y se asegura que, lo que
tenemos aquí es el pan del cielo; no come el que comieron sus
padres y murieron. Este pan da vida para siempre.
Gracias a todos los que hicieron nuestra Gran
Kermes un gran éxito. Recaudamos un total
de $ 9,498.00.
Estamos muy agradecidos con todos los
voluntarios, grupos y ministerios que
trabajaron e hicieron posible que esta fiesta
haya sido muy agradable y divertida para
nuestra parroquia.
La próxima semana nuestra
diócesis realizará la Colecta
Peter’s Pence, la cual le
proporciona al Santo Padre los
fondos necesarios para realizar
sus obras de caridad en todo el
mundo. Lo recaudado en la
Colecta beneficia a los más desfavorecidos: a las víctimas
de la guerra, de la opresión y de desastres.
Únase a nuestro Santo Padre como un testigo de la
caridad para los que sufren.
