Model History
From 1956 the production of the Sedans, Coupés and Convertibles began. They were mostly
made by hand and in small series and thus were more than 9,000 DM more expensive than
the technically identical limousines. They bribed by an immense use of wood and leather in the
interior. The carburetor models (W180) were manufactured until 1959. In November 1960
production of the injection type (W128) ended. With a total of only 2.081 vehicles built,
including 830 with fuel injection engine, the Ponton Coupés are among the rare models of the
Mercedes-Benz post-war production.
Description
Specials: European delivered, rare injection-version, long time German owned, nut and bolt
restored
The Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Ponton Cabriolet (W128) was delivered in 1960 to Yugoslavia. In
the early 90s, the Ponton Convertible came back to Southern Germany. The current owner
had the car restored over several years. For more than 10 years, the Mercedes is back on the
road again.
Daimler delivery slip, extensive documentation and German street legal are available.
With the Ponton six-cylinder, the "S" nomenclature was introduced at the Mercedes-Benz
luxury cars. The "special class" was the last hand-built Mercedes-Benz series.
