Dear outdoor enthusiast
The ever-mounting waste of plastic bottles made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a pandemic in progress. The longer
we wait to make positive changes, the worse-off the world may
be. In 2007, Mountainsmith chose to make a difference by taking what we believe to be one small step in the right direction
through the incorporation of recycled post-consumer materials
into our products without sacrificing our high-quality standards.
By working together with our long-held partnerships, we developed a material called ReDura™, a fabric made from 100%
post-consumer PET bottles. Unlike other manufacturers who
only use a percentage of recycled PET in their sustainable product offerings, Mountainsmith is committed to using 100%
recycled PET content in our ReDura™ materials. Beyond the
ReDura™ manufacturing process, we have also been able to
develop additional materials like; zippers, webbing and many
types of mesh and trim, all of which are made from recycled
PET bottles. With the advent of our ReDura™ manufacturing
process, we were the first to manufacture packs made from
100% recycled PET in the outdoor industry - and for 4 years
now, we have been committed to revolutionizing the word
“Green” through our company philosophy, visible business
practices and product innovation. For 2010, we now offer 35%
of our product line in recycled and sustainable materials, a feat
not matched by any of our competitors. Our commitment to
sustainable innovation not only allowed us to be the first ever
recipient of the prestigious Backpacker Magazine Editor’s
Choice Green Award, but also serves as the backbone to our
four core tenets: Utility, Durability, Sustainability and Value.
ReDura ™ Material Production :
The process by which the post -consumer PET bottles are manufactured into ReDura ™ is outlined in the IMAGEs shown below .
Plastic bottles made from
polyethylene terephthalate
(PET) are collected,
separated and cleaned.
The labels and caps are
removed and the bottles
are then ground into flakes
for melting and extrusion.
The result of the melting
and extrusion process
yields plastic chips which
are then prepared for the
next extrusion process.

LOAD DISPERSION TECHNOLOGY (LDT)
Mountainsmith’s Load Dispersion Technology (LDT) when properly loaded, will
effectively distribute weighted loads from
the front of the pack, through the back panel suspension, and towards the lumbar
and hips. The LDT is comprised of two
custom moldable 6061 aluminum stays
that are arranged in an X-frame configuration behind the molded back panel.
This system provides a pivoting effect for
the pack body’s center of gravity to shift
with the dynamic movement of the user’s
body and enables the user to utilize independently adjustable shoulder straps for
a more custom and ergonomic fit. The
X-frame aluminum stays are put into use
when the waistbelt compression adjusters, along with help from shoulder strap
load lifters, pull the “weight” into the lumbar and hip region and off of the shoulders for increased carrying comfort.

beverages cool and fresh when the weather’s warm. This lightweight bot­tle
cover doesn’t only insulate, it also cools beverages actively through an ancient physical
principle. Ever since Antiquity, drinking water was kept in earthen jugs or leather sacks.
Small amounts of vapour were able to escape through the pores of the containers,
which kept the contents of the jug or sack cool.
Working principle
The Rubytec® Active Bottle Cooler
is composed of two layers: an inner
and an outer cover. The inner cover
is made of intelligent, multilayer,
breathing and water repellent
material. The inner ­cover, which gets
wet, is made of w

has been treated with an anti-mould
and antibacterial agent. Depending
on the air humidity degree, the

contents well up to 6 to 13 °C below
