reetings to all from the bridge
at WYC. The view from here is
a bit scary but I am sure I will
get used to it. I felt overwhelmed at
the AGM the other night, this is a huge
responsibility for me but I promise you
all I will do my best to fill the shoes
of those who have gone before. My
Mom once said if you can leave things
a little bit better then you found them
you will do OK. I hope I can do that
for the Club.
For me the most exciting news to come
out of the AGM is the vote to change
the name of our club to West Kelowna
Yacht Club. Now that we have a positive
vote to go forward we are already in the
process of getting the correct documents
in motion to make this happen. As of
today we are not sure of an exact date that
we can officially call ourselves WKYC but
we are confident that it will be soon.
Club, the name change, new effort on
the temporary mooring buoys, some
needed renovations and the challenge of
the day to day activities of WYC. With
the help of the newly elected board, (a
good mix of old and new members) and
Liz, I think we are up to the task.
I wish all of you a safe holiday season
and hope to see you at the Club.
Next year promises to be very exciting.

hank you to the members who
have endorsed myself as your
Entertainment Director for the
2010 -2011 year. Sue and I are looking
forward to the challenges and good
times that can be enjoyed with the
help of our volunteers. It is going to be
a challenge to meet the standards that
Diane and Lisa have set over the last
three years but Sue and I are looking
forward to some exciting events.
Volunteers have already come forward
for New Years, Commodores ball &
golf tournament. I am looking for
ideas & leads for New Comers , Rib n
Blues , possible car rally, wine tours,
Oktoberfest/ Halloween etc. Being
a novice on a lot of the other events
– I look forward to ideas for regular
events and ideas for any new events
and volunteers to help make these
happen.
Our first event is the decorating of the
Yacht Club and I will thank all the
volunteers in advance as the log will
come out after this has been completed.
We have Martinis and Mistletoe on
Dec 10th and then our New Years Party.
Paul and Meena have already been
hard at work with great ideas for a
fun evening. The theme is “Cruising”
– the extraordinary scrumptious meal
is being planned with a cruise theme
by Grant de Montreuil who has done
some fantastic meals for us. You will be
dancing to the music of The CHEEKY
MONKEES who have rocked the club in
the past with their music. Be prepared
for some fantastic prizes.
For a cruise upgrade - we have been able
to arrange transportation for reasonable
fee to take some of you home after your
party. (for those who live or are staying
on the Westside). Book your ride as
soon as possible. Tickets go on sale
Dec. 1 and with the line up this year
be prepared for a sell out crowd. A
Merry Christmas to all and the best in
the New Year.

House Accounts
The year is winding down & time to spend your fun
money is running out. If you have not yet used up your
money please think about coming down to the club
in December to partake in some Christmas activities.
We have Martinis & Mistletoe, the Kids Xmas party
as well as the big NYE cruise party.
If you are unable to visit the club you can donate the
balance of your fun money to a specific cause: ie. the
Anchor Club or outdoor & indoor maintenance projects.
You can also donate it to the wonderful boys at the bar for
all their hard work throughout
the year.
2011 fun money
will be posted
in January.

Bar Director’s Report
H
ello everyone, I would like to
thank you for giving me this
opportunity to be your new
Bar Director of the West Kelowna Yacht
Club.
Let me tell you a little about myself…
I was (almost) born & raised here,
graduated at the old Mount Boucherie
High School in fact. Headed out to
Vancouver to try & “find” myself but
discovered later down the road that my
true “calling” was always right here, in
Westbank, or should I now say, West
Kelowna.
Being almost a true Kelowna-“ite“, I
was not always into boating (I know...
weird hey?), It happened upon good
friends inviting me on their boat in
2006 for some fun afternoons & then
eventually my boyfriend, Dale, being
a true boater himself, showing me the
ropes… no pun intended.
meeting so many great people these past
few months that we have been members
that I look forward to getting to know you
all even more. I have some great ideas
& hope to continue the fabulous rapport
we already have here in the club!
Cheers to you all & here’s to a great
year ahead!
