Dear Brothers & Sisters,
The Pilgrims left Plymouth, England, on September
6, 1620. They arrived at Plymouth Rock on December 11. Unprepared for the starvation and sickness
of a harsh New England winter, half of the 102 passengers died before Spring. Yet, persevering in
prayer, and assisted by helpful Indians, they reaped
a bountiful harvest during the summer. The grateful
Pilgrims then declared a three-day feast, starting on
December 12, 1621, to thank God and to celebrate
with their Indian friends.
In 1789, following a proclamation issued by President George Washington, America celebrated its
first Day of Thanksgiving to God under its new
constitution. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln
set aside the last Thursday of November as a national Day of Thanksgiving. Then in 1941, Congress permanently established the fourth Thursday
of each November as a national holiday.
As Americans celebrate Thanksgiving each year, we
hope they will retain the original gratefulness to
God displayed by the Pilgrims and many other
founding fathers, and remember that it is to those
early and courageous Pilgrims that they owe not
only the traditional Thanksgiving holiday but also
the concepts of self-government, the “hard-work”
ethic, self-reliant communities, and devout religious
faith.
come festa nazionale.

A grand time was had by all who attended Italian

VINCENT ILLUZZI JR. PERFORMS
IN NEW YORK CITY
By Lynn Marino
On Saturday, September 28th, 2013, Cellini Lodge members, family, and friends went to the East Village to
hear Vincent Illuzzi, the son of President Vincent Illuzzi and wife Stephanie, and brother of Christian, in a solo
performance at Ella’s Lounge on Avenue A , just off Houston Street. Cellini members that attended were:
Marie and Artie Conti, Joann Grossman, Valerie Hughes, Julio and Lynn Marino, Mike and Trish Moslin, and
Joe Sciame. On hand along with Vincent’s immediate family were great-aunt Louise (age 91 and lookin’
fabulous!) and cousin Toni Demes, and Feast volunteers and supporters Robin Fishman and Jane Totura. By
the time the show started, a standing room only crowd of 75 persons or more had packed the club room to hear
Vincent perform a set of songs he had written, recorded and produced. The crowd was wildly enthusiastic during the performance, and the night was a big success. All attendees received “Ad Astra,” a CD of Vincent’s
original songs, and it was apparent from the excitement generated by the performance, that Vincent Illuzzi Jr.
has a bright musical future ahead of him and Cellini Lodge is proud to support this very talented young man
and fellow member.
LONG ISLAND COLUMBUS DAY PARADE 2013
