LETTER FROM THE CONCHAIR
Hello and Welcome to Ohayocon 2010!
Thank you for being here for Ohayocon’s ten year anniversary. I am excited and honored to be able to serve as it’s con chair for a
second year. The staff have worked very hard in the hopes that you have a weekend you’ll never forget.
There are some new events and some old favorites that we hope you will check out. The Fantasy Ball, Cosplay Gallery, the J-Walk,
Jonathon Coulton’s concerts, the Masquerade, Coloring with Lindsey, Karaoke, game shows are just a few of the awesome things that
we have planned for you this weekend.
There are a few people, I would like to thank for keeping Ohayocon going all these years.
Most importantly, a very special thank you to Melissa Phelps and Jeff Thompson. Without them Ohayocon would have ended along
time ago. Sadly, we lost Jeff Thompson four years ago and we still miss him today. His spirit will always be with us.
Gen Dalio, Dustin Phillips, Jonathon Brands, Robert DeJesus, Serge and Greg Ayres have shown their dedication to Ohayocon over
the years standing by it’s side on good and bad days. They have never given up and always gone above and beyond the call of duty
- and for that, they deserve a thank you too.
I would also, like to thank all of the present and past staff, volunteers, dealers and attendees that have supported Ohayocon throughout
the years. Thanks to all of Ohayocon’s past con chairs for laying the ground work on what has come to be a gret convention.
Most of all, I would like to thank you (our attendees) for returning year after year. You are the reason that Ohayocon exists. Please
enjoy yourselves, have a good time and stay safe out there.
HYATT AREA
Thank you for coming to Ohayocon 2010.
Sincerely yours,
-Emily DeJesus

Info Desk and someone should be able
to offer specific guidance to you.
20) There will be guest signings, but
please limit the stuff you bring and the
amount of the guest’s time you take
up whenever possible. Be polite and
courteous and let the people behind
have a chance to meet the guests, too.
If you have any problems, questions, or

STAYING HEALTHY
Nurse Lindsey would like to remind all
Ohayocon attendees that a “Healthy Con”
is a “Happy Con”. The last thing anyone
wants bring back from a convention is a
cold.
So please follow these simple healthy tips
that will make the convention a safer place
for everyone.
If you have any medical concerns please
locate ohayocon staff and they will get you
in contact with our safety staff.
Steps You Can Take Everyday To Stay Healthy.
•
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the
trash after you use it.
•
Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcoholbased hand rub.
•
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.
•
Stay home if you get sick. We recommends that you stay home to keep from infecting others.
What You Can Do to Stay Healthy
•
Get vaccinated. Vaccination is the best protection we have against flu.Seasonal flu
vaccine is available now and initial doses of 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine also are
available, with additional doses available later this year.
•
Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through
coughing or sneezing of infected people.
•
Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding
crowds and other social distancing measures.
•
Stay informed. This website will be updated regularly as information
becomes available.
Call 1-800-CDC-INFO for more information.

A NOTE TO PARENTS
Please take the time to locate our Security Operations room should
you need any help. Make sure you and your child have a plan on
what to do if you should become separated. We suggest that you
meet up at the Security Operations room to make Lost Child situations easier to deal with.
Have your child memorize important information such as:
•
The hotel at which you are staying and your room
number
•
A phone number at which you or another guardian can be
reached
•
The location of security operations – they take care of all lost
child situations
•
Exactly what you will be wearing, in case a description of you
is required
Note the age level associated with each event. All events will be rated using the same system for movie ratings, so
please do not bring in a little child into a panel rated “R” or “M”. Even if you feel comfortable bringing in your child,
other attendees present may not.
While attending the con:
Note the locations of the Staff Tables
nearest to you. Someone will be
there to guide you in the right direction and answer any questions you
may have.
If you see any suspicious behavior,
immediately report it to the nearest
Staff Member available – they will
all be wearing a Staff T-shirt as well
as Staff Badges.
Should anyone at the convention
try to solicit you or make you feel
uncomfortable, please report this to
the nearest available Staff Member.
Just because someone comes across
as pleasant to you and/or your child
doesn’t always mean that they are
100% honest people; if something
seems off, it probably is, and you
should steer clear of these people.
Make sure your badges are visible
– you and your child may be escorted
out of events if Staff Members do not
see a badge on you.
Should you or your child lose a
badge, please speak with someone at
Registration Operations.
Sometimes the wait for an event
is long! Have bottles of water and
some snacks on hand. Also, take
note of nearby bathrooms :)
From time to time, check the program listing on the wall. Events
may change times and locations, or
may be cancelled. We will do our
best to keep you informed as we find
discover unforeseen developments.
Do not leave your child unattended
for any reason! Make sure that if
he/she will be at an event that you are
not present at, try to make sure they
are not attending the event alone, or
that they will be able to contact you
at regular intervals. Use the buddy
system if you can help it.
If you and your child are attending
separate panels at the same time,
make sure you have a designated spot
and time to meet up.
Let your child know it is okay to yell
for help if they find themselves in
some sort of trouble while away from
you. To alert others, they should be
able to yell some kind of key phrase,
such as “Stranger Danger!” or “This
person is not my mommy/daddy!”
As parents, it is your responsibility
to make sure your children are not
getting into any trouble or causing
damages to the convention center.
We are here to help you, not be your
babysitters :)
After the con:
Make sure you have all of your
belongings with you. Check to
make sure that nothing is missing,
including items you purchased in
the Dealer’s Room. If you have
lost an item or suspect someone has
stolen something from you during
the convention, report it to Security
Operations.
Stay safe and healthy, and enjoy
your weekend at Ohayocon 2010!

She enjoys the business side of working for Studio

Aaron Dismuke started with
a few small parts (in Fruits
Basket and Kiddy Grade),
courtesy of his cousin,
FUNimation ADR director
Justin Cook. But it wasn’t
long before the budding voice
actor showed real talent, and quickly catapulted
to a critical leading role in Fullmetal Alchemist as
Alphonse Elric . It’s a feat all the more impressive
when you do the math and realize that he was only
11 years old when he started voicing Alphonse,
and that he did most of that difficult work while
speaking into a big metal bowl. Aaron resumed the
role for the movie Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror
of Shamballa, as well as several video games
based on the series. Aaron (now 16 years old) can
also be heard as Ion Fortuna in Trinity Blood and
young Ginko in Mushi-shi, Yasuchika in Ouran
High School Host Club and his latest role as Yuto
Sakaeguchi in Big Windup.
Illich Guardiola easily has
one of the most recognizable
voices in anime in rolls such
as Kino’s Journey, Chrono
Crusade,
Excel
Saga,
Megazone 23, Super GALS!,
Generator Gawl, Princess
Nine, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, Noir, BASToF
Syndrome, Le Chevalier d’Eon, live action movies,
and more. Illich was born in Honduras. One of his
parents is half-Russian, and the other is half-Italian.
He moved to Boston, and was raised there since
13; he then moved to Texas. His first language is
Spanish; his second is English. This heritage, as he
mentions in the Saiyuki:Requiem commentary, is
part of the reason he has such a distinct, semi-exotic
accent and was later chosen to play Gojyo.

Carl Gustav Horn is an
manga editor at Dark Horse
Comics and has worked in
the U.S. anime and manga

book on otaku culture to be featured in Newsweek.
He has worked on the English adaptations of such
titles as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Clover, The
Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, Oh My Goddess!,
Excel Saga, Golgo 13, Flowers & Bees, Banana
Fish, Eagle, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and
Spirited Away, and has contributed to the U.S. DVD
releases of Royal Space Force, Jin-Roh, Patlabor
2, Gunbuster, Gunbuster 2, Lupin III: The Fuma
Conspiracy, and Appleseed: Ex Machina.
Jan Scott-Frazier moved
to Japan in 1987 to attend
animation school and later
went on to work in the
anime industry. Jan worked
on shows like RikiOh 2,
Locke the Superman (OVA),
Shurato (OVA), Bubblegum Crash (OVA) and Tottoi
(feature). She founded a new animation studio TAO Corp. Ltd. in Bangkok, Thailand. TAO did
work on Moldiver, Diary of Mikan, Genocyber and
SWAT Kats amongst others. In 1994, Jan moved
into consulting work, freelancing for Cambridge
Animation Systems, the developers of Animo
(a computer assisted (2D) animation production
system). Also in 1994, Jan co-founded GENESIS
Digital Publishing Company with Izumi Matsumoto
( Kimagure Orange Road) where they created
the best-selling Comic ON, a CD-ROM manga
compendium in which Jan debuted as a manga
artist. In 1999 Jan directed episodes of Susie-chan
& Marvy (TV) and spent most of the year working
on the development of original TV series projects.

Lisa Ortiz began her career
as a voice over artist under the
shroud of an attempted auto
larceny gone awry. Luckily
for her, and for her sibling
the perpetrator in question,
the car battery died. (No
seriously, my brother tried to steal my car. That’s
how I got into anime. Just ask me. I’ll tell you.).
What followed was a string of serendipitous events
that to led her to a career in voice acting that has
spanned over a decade, includes dozens of animated
series, films, video games, commercials and other
voice work. A veteran voice actress holding a BFA
in theatre from Hofstra University, she is perhaps
best known in the anime world for her works as
Lina Inverse in Slayers (a role she reprises in the
upcoming Slayers Evolution), Amy in Sonic the
Hedgehog and Serenity Wheeler in Yu-Gi-Oh. She
has appeared in a number of animation including
Pokemon, Revolutionary Girl Utena (Shiori), Magic
Users Club (Nanaka), Animation Runner Kuromi
(Kuromi), Record of Lodoss War (Deedlit), His and
Her Circumstances (Tsubasa), Kujubiki, Genshikin,
One Piece, Blue Gender, Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles, GI Joe Sigma 6, Winx Club and a number of
others. After an extensive time spent in front of the
microphone, she has in the past few years stepped
behind it to Direct, Produce and Adapt animation as
well. A personal triumph is her work in the game
Grand Theft Auto, which she believes stands as a
symbolic homage to her illicit beginnings as a voice
over actress. She currently resides in NYC, and does
not own a car.
Wendy Powell has been a
professional voice actress for
Funimation
Entertainment
and Okratron 5000 for over
7 years. She is probably most
well known for a little villain
named “Envy” on Full Metal
Alchemist. She was most recently in a new role in
Claymore where she plays the character Ilene. Her
most challenging role this years was your role of
IKU in Shirguri…you need to watch it to know
why! Wendy is also known for smaller parts…in
which she usually dies a most painful death. Some
of her credits include: Emi, in Baki the Grappler.
Amick, In Blue Gender, The Fever Demon in Shin
Chan, Kyo’s Mother in Fruits Basket, and Kasuga
in Negima, Paula” Lady Death” In Trintiy Blood.
She has also voiced characters in: Kitty Grade, Case
Closed, Yu Yu Hakusho, Peach Girl, xxxaholic,
One Peice, Galaxy Railways, Tsubasa, Gunslinger
Girl, Moon Phase, Glass Fleet and many others.
Video Game credits include: Spikeout, Fullmetal
Alchemist, Curse of the Crimson and Broken Angel.
Wendy’s first love is the Theatre (although Anime is
quickly catching up!!!), she works in local theatre in
the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

J Michael Tatum was
nurtured on anime classics
from the tender age of Star
Blazers, et al, this reclusive
fanboy-turned-voice
actor/
writer/ADR
director/flake
extraordinaire spent more
years than he cares to remember in what might
charitably be described as freefall before landing
–mostly by accident—smack dab on the industry
of his dreams. To this day, some believe the small
crater made by the impact remains the source of his
power.
Cast by sheer fluke as the warmhearted yet tormented
Rikichi in 2005’s Samurai 7, Tatum’s inexplicable
luck held long enough to see his flag hoisted on a
slew of dream roles, most notably Kyoya Otori in
the hit English language dub of Ouran High School
Host Club. Other characters the man still can’t
believe he’s had the crazy good fortune to play
include: Doumeki in XXXHolic, Jiro Mochizuki in
Black Blood Brothers, Isaac Dian in Baccano! , God
Eneru in One Piece, Komui Lee in D-Gray Man,
Dororo in Sgt. Frog, the titular loveable savage
of Heroic Age, Kraft Lawrence in Spice & Wolf,
and Scar in the upcoming release of Full Metal
Alchemist: Brotherhood.
As if being involved with so many awesome shows
wasn’t enough, in late 2007 Tatum decided to tempt
fate by officially branching out into voice directing
and adaptive scriptwriting for Funimation as well.
His directing credits to date include Aquarion, Jyuoh-Sei, Romeo X Juliet, Big Windup, and Rin, while
his writing credits include substantial work on both
Ouran High School Host Club, Heroic Age and
Blassreiter. He is currently burning the midnight
oil on a number of exciting projects due for release
later this year.
And before you ask, the “J” stands for… Well, it
stands for whatever you’d like it to.
Cosplay-Cat is our secret
mystery guest this year...Ok,
so she really isn’t our mystery
guest but she is cute!
We at Ohayocon are excited
about the mystery guest, but
Nurse Lindsey would like to
remind you that you shouldn’t base your desicion to
come to a convention based on the guest list alone.
Ohayocon isn’t just a great con because of it’s guest
line-up. It’a a great con because we work really hard
all year to put together a really great show .
13
While we can totally appreciate the dedication
it must have taken to find this little easter egg of
ours, we also would like to be able to surprise you
when convention time rolls around. If you had the
chance, would you really want to know what was in
a Christmas present?
In addition to bringing you a variety of guests both old
and new, we have added lots of new programming to
our schedule this year. From A-Z (acting - zombies)
we think there should be something that you will
enjoy. Ohayocon is more than excited about our
musical guest Jonathan Coulton. That could also
have something to do with the number of hours
we’ve spent playing Portal though.
Well I guess I’ve take up enough of your time with
this little joke of ours. We do hope that you will
attend our convention and have a great time while
you’re there. Lastly, if our joke made you angry, just
flip back to the previous page and stare at cosplay
cat...she’ll turn your frown right around.

Special Musical Guest
Jonathan Coultan
In 2005 Jonathan Coulton left his
day job writing software to pursue
music full time. To keep himself
busy he released a new song on this
website every week for a year in a
project called Thing a Week. A few
of those songs became big internet
hits (his folky cover of Sir Mix-aLot’s “Baby Got Back“, a funny
video called “Flickr“, a song called
“Code Monkey“), and is now fortunate enough to make his living as a
musician.
He write about a lot of geeky stuff
because he is a geek. Some of it’s
funny, but a lot of it’s not so funny,
and even more of it is somewhere
in between. He’s been compared to
They Might Be Giants, Barenaked
Ladies, Loudon Wainwright III,
and other musicians you REALLY
LOVE.
He give lots of music away because
he believe it helps his cause, and he
love it when people use his music
to create other stuff – music videos,
pictures, remixes, etc. At the moment he’s unsigned, and proud to
say that he’s created this whole thing
mostly on his own (with plenty of
help from an amazingly supportive
bunch of fans). But it certainly is
getting busy…He will probably
sell out and go Hollywood any day
now…

COSTUME AND WEAPONS POLICY
Ohayocon PROHIBITS the following:
Weapons prohibited under Ohio law. All
federal, state, and city statues are in full
effect.
Real firearms (working, disabled, or otherwise) (e.g. rifles, shotguns, hand guns, BB
guns, etc.) and ammunition of any and all
sorts. All gun replicas must have an orange
cap at the nozzle per law.
Projectile weapons (e.g. pellet guns, airsoft rifles, disc guns, cap guns, silly string,
etc.).
Water pistols or other liquid “weapons”.
LIVE STEEL. This includes any metal
weapon that can be sharpened to an edge.
Examples include, but are not limited to:

tanto), pudao, kwan dao, miao dao, kama,
sword canes, knives, daggers, stilettos,
switchblades, axes, hatchets, tomahawks,
scythes, etc. This also includes shuriken
(throwing stars and darts) and other throwing weapons as well as sharp costume accessories (e.g. sharp metal wings, spikes,
etc.).
SIGNS, whether carried or worn, advertising services in exchange for goods or other
favors are considered panhandling OR
those that advertise an exchange of any
sort of sexual favor (kisses, hugs, glomps,
etc.) are considered solicitation. Any form
of solicitation or panhandling is strictly
prohibited. Including, but not limited to:
Will Glomp for Pocky, Hugs for ___,
Need Hugs, Glomp Me.
Inline skates (e.g. Rollerblades), roller
skates, Togo skates, sneaker skates (e.g.
Heelys), and the like may not be worn
or used in the convention area (sneaker

only a sneaker).

similar devices.
Any other potentially harmful weapon/
prop as determined by Ohayocon Staff.
Ohayocon ALLOWS the following:
Replica weapons made of wood, foam,
plastic, resin, fiberglass, or other craft materials provided said items are not sharp
and do not pose a danger to others. This includes replica martial arts weapons of any
kind (must not be made of metal).
Bokken, shinai, nunchaku, sai, escrima,
tonfa, staff, bo, jo, fighting fans, jutte, and
other practice weapons (made from wood
or other non-metal material) such as kama,
katana, wakizashi/kodachi, tanto, pudao,
kwan dao, miao dao, etc.
Bows and crossbows, however arrows
must be kept in a quiver and only if arrow
tips are removed.
Cosplay props such as gourds, wings, musical instruments, etc.
Must be kept to a manageable size. Should
not extend a maximum of 1’6” to the
right, left, front, back, or above the person
UNLESS it can be folded up or otherwise
contained, AND person MUST have the
assistance of a handler, while navigating hallways. This applies to wings, tails,
weapons/props, etc. Be aware of your

items- costumes, props, wings, etc. may
not be permitted in certain areas of the
convention (e.g. Dealer’s room) due to
traffic flow and safety issues.
Must have a clear line of sight at all times.
Being only able to see through a tiny eye
slot does NOT constitute a clear line of
sight. If this is unavoidable, cosplayer
MUST have a handler at all times.
SIGNS, whether carried or worn, that are
clearly understood and established part of
a costume (e.g. sign carried by Genma the
panda, Menchi with a list of nutritional
information) OR that serves a reasonable
purpose (e.g. advertising an event, showing a group where to meet) AND has been
approved by Con Ops.
Costume considerations:
Costumes must be “street-legal” and suitable for all audiences as Ohayocon is an
all-ages convention. If you would be
stopped on the street for indecency, then
it is most likely not appropriate. No less
than the bikini area (NOT thongs or gstrings) should be showing. This is an
all-ages convention; keep that in mind. If
you are found wearing a costume that may
be prone to malfunctions (i.e. potentially
showing body parts not deemed suitable
for public display), you will be asked to
prove to Ohayocon Staff that such malfunctions will not happen. Costumes that
do not pass must be immediately covered
and removed from the convention area.
No bare feet allowed! You must wear footwear at all times (the soles of feet must be
covered at minimum). Ohayocon Staff will
remove people from the convention area
until footwear can be acquired.

Have you always wondering if an anime
was okay to show a young child? Always
wondered about how cons and your child
would work? Well wonder no more! We
will cover several anime that are okay to
show young children and do an in-depth
explanation as to why you should show
them anime dubbed instead of subbed.
Cons and young children can work together
nicely, but you have to be prepared. We’ll
discuss how to prepare for a con you’re
taking your child to as well as which ones
we recommend in the Ohio area. We’ll
also cover manga and whether or not it’s
okay for your child to read them before a
certain age.

going around the con, destroying the
convention’s precious pocky horde! Join

with Illich Guardiola and Greg Ayres.
We’ll talk about the history of TF2, and
how this online shooting game is managing
to gain surprising footing at the con scene.
We’ll show some demonstration videos for
new players, give some tips on gameplay,
and then talk about the future of this
increasingly popular game.

An informal Q&A with voice actor Jerry

Robots & Amateur Robotics
Robots in Japanese pop-culture are
awesome, why not build one? This panel
would outline the necessary foreknowledge
and disciplines needed to begin making
robots as a hobby as well as a brief primer
on electronics/mechanics, appropriate
safety concerns, and available hardware/
software packages/kits that one can utilize
to get involved in robotics fairly quickly
and cheaply.
Showa Fansabu
Let’s journey to an age undreamt of, the
1980s. When a fansub was something that,
if you dropped it, it would break your foot.
When fansubs didn’t hurt the industry, they
helped you get into the industry. When
otaku wore gold chains and did the human
beatbox: uh-uh-uh-uh, uh-uh-uh-uh-uh,
‘cause it’s--finger on the toggle wheel
y’all, for the flying erase heads of steel
y’all, because we have no alliance with
the haters when we’re on the ummmm,
SuperBeta, and the HD-X Pro base, with
the gold lettering, and white clamshell
case. Kick it old school with Carl Horn and
Ryan Gavigan. May contain trace amounts
of Heisei as well.
Steampunk in the Media
This panel is for those interested in where
steampunk can be found in entertainment
and anything related. We will examine all
the different places steampunk is found
such as movies,books,manga/comics,tv,
and music. If possible, we will show
examples of these and give links if asked.
Steampunk Meetup & photoshoot
Tweeting Tokyo
Want to know what it’s like to visit Kyoto?
I’ll show the pictures I took and the tweets
that I posted to update my friends and
family about my trip, and answer any
questions you may have about Japan’s
ancient capital.
What Not to Cosplay?!?!
A hilarious look into some of the best
and worst cosplay ideas to date. We will
show you tips and give you a few rules on
dressing for your body type and looking
the best you can while showing off your
awesome work. And to be fair we will
show some of our personal cosplaying
gems, from before we learned what not to
cosplay.
