The Leisure & Relaxation Complex is the temple of well-being and pleasures. People come here to be entertained,
energised, entrust themselves to the hands of experts or just spend the whole afternoon lazing in the sun, just like at the
beach. The only difference is that they will be facing snowy peaks with stunning views … !

With 2 pools, 1 aquatic toboggan and waterfalls, the swimming
pool is a veritable oasis of play and relaxation for the whole family.
And the stunning view of the snowcovered peaks is a gift for everyone ! It opens during nights on certain days of the week.
Last detail, aquaerobics and swimming lessons are offered for
those who want to learn or just move !
1 600 m² of ice welcome skilled skaters and beginners alike ! To
have fun, dance, play hockey... It opens during nights on certain
days of the week.

Children from 3 to 7 years who want to intiate themselves into ice
skating, will learn to skate in the company of friendly figurines,
under the good advice of instructors and their parents. Twice a
week, the ice rink turns into a real « ice garden ». See page 12.

A label, Family Plus
Orcières Merlette 1850 has always been a pioneer in providing for children and families. With its accommodation
offers (villages, clubs, hotels, tourist homes), its services
(Leisure & Relaxation Complex, Child House), its family offers (« Orcières invites children «) and its ski area suitable
for all ages (Opoualand fun trail, 3 Télémix - only station
to be equipied with it), Orcières Merlette 1850 remains a
station that is totally family-oriented.
It has indeed earned the national Family Plus label, recognised by the Ministry of Tourism. This quality label has

From 26 March 2016 until closing (April 22), the ski pass
is FREE for every children under 10 years old !
By 1/2 day, full day or even a stay, skiing is no limit for
bear cubs.

Orcy’s birth !
Orcy the softly and smiley bear is the new companion
of children in Orcières. The new mascot will love to walk
down the streets with the children, to have fun, play, and
participate in activities with them ! And Orcy loves to be

which is similar to a snowscoot. Guided by an instructor, the baby will have great

The « Child’s house » is the home of children. They are
treated like kings, everything is done for them !

old, for a half day or a full day.
Toddlers are cared, and their universe is full of colours, discovery games and constant attention thanks to the sweet

Piou Piou garden
Nothing is too big for the little ones !
First snow garden created in France (in 1967), « The Piou
Piou garden » welcomes children between 3 and 6 years
old. Here it is the place for space !
On this huge, fully equipped playground (with trails and
teleskis) – one of the most beautiful in France – children
get to have their first go on skis, under the watchful eyes
of the monitors from the French Ski School (ESF).
The lift is replaced by a covered travelator of
54 m long ! This is the second one in the snow garden.
But that’s not all: «There is also an educational approach
through a story told to the children : that of Piou Piou
and his friends. It aims to develop their motor skills. The
monitors integrate essential concepts in their teaching
approach, such as pleasure, freedom and imagination.»

The Écrins National Park

Half of the commune (a borough) of Orcieres is inside the
central zone of the Ecrins National Park, where you can
explore the winter wildernesses of this European National Park. It’s the largest protected natural space in France
(100,000 ha).

Every week, guided and
themed snowshoe walks
«chamois spotting», «history
and heritage», or «moonlit»
are offered to the public.
They are accessible to all !
The white dominates and reveals the traces of animals that
inhabit this territory. The striking silence adds to the wild
side of a preserved nature. This area in the heart of Champsaur deserves to be discovered ... with care and respect.
The avalanche report
Every week, people can
join the park wardens to
take part in the surveys of
the snow conditions and
wildlife. The group will
collect datas that will then
be transmitted to Météo
France for avalanche bulletin.

TERRITORY
Treasure of the Champsaur
Holidays are made to pamper yourself ... Here the specialties reflect the soul of the country, anchored in the mountain traditions and coated with a southern accent.
All about cheese !
Noémie, young farmer who love her mountain and nature,
welcome people among her goats in the farm « Les Cabrioles ». People will be involved in the milking, discover
the farming profession, and enjoy a good snack in the farm.
The farm is a great example of a strong agriculture in the
Champsaur.
«Génépi» Guillaumette
When the larch flower sits at the table
Stéphane Bertrand-Pelisson, chef of the Gardettes restaurant and former student of the Thonon Hotel school, offers
authentic and refined cuisine.
If the set menu celebrates the Champsaur specialties - from
nettles soup to the ravioles gratin with morels, through the
tian of lamb shoulder, without forgetting the famous tourtons - he revisits traditional dishes like « fried escalope of
foie gras and creamy polenta ».
Stéphane is also the only chef to use the larch flower - the
Queen of the Southern Alps - to make sorbets and «home»
jams.
In the Bernard-Reymond family,
every one masters the ways
and means, the ski ... and the
production of « génépi » ! Ski
instructors during winter, the «
Guillaumette » family cultivate
the génépi on the height of Prapic in the Ecrins National Park,
during summer.
Tasting the specialties of the country is a must !
The « Tourtons » : small squares of fine pastry, filled with
a potato, cheese and onion purée and fried.
The « Ravioles » : cheese and potato mixture, rolled into
little ‘quenelles’ (like dumplings), either fried or baked.
The « Oreilles d’Ane » (Donkey Ears) comes from the
main ingredient, wild spinach, which is collected when its
size and shape look like a donkey’s ear !
