Both Dan and Bill

was the singer for
an original band that
was touring the US,

Dan explained, “As

when we were

thing is, we seemed
to do our own things
musically as we grew
up, but there was
always something
really cool about
when we would play

Putting “The Chill” in Happy Hours
By: Krista Doran
Music has always been a
part of my life. I grew up in the
80’s and during a time when
music was really changing.
During those years, I had great
exposure to the many varying
styles out there, and that is
probably why my taste in music
is so eclectic. One thing I have
always loved, is acoustic music.
When I hear or play acoustic
music, it just rings so clear to
me. There’s nothing to hide behind, the music is pure and you
can always tell that people play
it and sing from the soul.
Back in the summer of last
year, my friend Bonnie and I
went to the Irish Rover Station
House in Langhorne for Happy
Hour. As we were sitting there
drinking our beers, I noticed
two guys who had set up in the
corner and were getting ready
to play. They sat down and
started talking to the people
and began a song. From the
very first note, I could tell this
duo was really good. The guitar
was very clear, hitting all the
proper chords and it had a very
full bodied sound. The singer
began to sing and the two
harmonized together and I was
immediately hooked! I thought
to myself, well this is some great
acoustic music! The duo we
were watching was The Doherty
Brothers. I had never heard of
them prior to this, and felt like I
stumbled on to something new
and really good. Shortly after
this, I noticed their name quite
a bit, playing all over the Bucks
standards to rarities,
but tunes that everyone knows. Dan told
me, “We like playing
the things that we like
to listen to, such as
Jeff Buckley, Maroon
5, Led Zeppelin, Billy
Joel, Jason Mraz, Fall
Out Boy and Ed Sherran, just to name a
few. Other tunes we
like to play are the
ones that bring back
great memories. We
hope that the songs
we play do just that
- remind people of
memories they’ve
had.”
Dan and Bill Doherty
have been playing
together since they
were kids, so you can
really feel the relationship between them
and it definitely comes
across in their sound.
Dan wanted everyone
to know that what
they do is unique and
stated, “I guarantee
that you’re not going
to find many acoustic
duos that tackle the
material we have prepared, so if you happen to see our name
around town, do yourself a favor and stop
in and check us out...
you won’t be sorry!”
I can certainly back
up that statement, so
if you get a chance
to see The Doherty
Brothers, please do!
Their next show will be
at Pasquale’s Sports
Bar in Levittown on
June 27th for Happy
Hour. To learn more

Pharrell Williams receives key

good guy Pharrell Williams’ hometown is Virginia Beach. Well, they are
showing their love to the Grammywinning producer. According to The
Virginian-Pilot, Pharrell returned to his
old stomping grounds Saturday June

Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms.
On Twitter, “Skateboard P” thanked
Mayor Sessoms and said that he’s
“unbelievably honored.” I’m unbelievably honored to receive a key to
my hometown city of Virginia Beach.
Before he was presented with the key
to the city, he went to his alma mater,
Princess Anne High School. Pharrell
promoted the partnership between
his educational foundation, From

have launched a Summer of Innovation Camp to benefit underprivileged

Styx, Foreigner and
Don Felder have recently
recorded a new version of
the Eagles’ ‘Hotel California’ together. They have
talked positively about all
three acts joining forces to
perform together on stage
during the show.
Spawned from a suburban
Chicago basement in the
early ‘70s, STYX are best
known for melding the style
of prog-rock with the power
of hard rock guitar, strong
ballads, and elements of
American musical theater.
The band is best known
for the hit songs “Lady”,
“Come Sail Away”, “Too
Much Time On My Hands”
and “Renegade”. The
band’s current lineup includes: James “J.Y.” Young
(Vocals, guitars, keyboards),
Tommy Shaw (Vocals,
guitars), Todd Sucherman
(Drums), Lawrence Gowan
(Vocals, keyboards, guitar),
Ricky Phillips (Bass guitar,
backing vocals).
Foreigner is hailed as one
of the most popular rock
acts in the world. They’re
responsible for some of
rock’s most enduring
anthems including “Juke
Box Hero,” “Feels Like The
First Time,” “Urgent,” “Head
Games,” “Dirty White Boy,”
and “I Want To Know What
Love Is.” At Foreigner’s core
is founder and lead guitarist Mick Jones, the maestro
whose songwriting, indelible
guitar hooks and multi-layered talents continue to escalate Foreigner’s influence.
He’s joined by lead vocalist
Kelly Hansen, bass guitarist
Jeff Pilson and multi-instrumentalist Tom Gimbel.
Rock and Roll Hall of
Famer, Don Felder was
the lead guitarist of The
Eagles for twenty-seven
years. During that time he
co-wrote their biggest hit,
‘Hotel California’. After
leaving the band in 2001,
Felder has recorded and/
or performed with legends
such as: Elton John, Bob
Seger, Stevie Nicks, Michael
Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

Shanon Donnelly from the Sheffield Tavern
Stats: Shanon Donnelly works
over at the new Sheffield Tavern
in NE Phila. and she has black
hair and green eyes & stands
in at 5’2”. She makes the bar
come alive when she does her
weekly shifts. We caught up with
her last Monday and got her to
open up to tell us some things.
Here goes:
Hobbies: “I love to draw and
sing” she says.
On Radio: Likes 93.3 WMMR
and also Country 92.5 XTU
On Sports: She loves hockey &
the Flyers and likes to play Flag
Football. She plays on the Sheffield Tavern’s team.
Birthsign: Gemini
Favorite Drink to Serve: Long
Island Ice Tea
Favorite Drink to Drink: ”I’m a
Miller Lite Girl all the way”
Shanon loves coming to work
each week and she sends out
shouts to all of her co-workers.
She told us that working at the
new Sheffield is like family. She
sends out a special greeting to
Danielle who also works at the
Sheffield and who she says is
her best friend. The Sheffield
has a unique bar staff - one of
the best ever and it shows. Our
own Roundhouse Ron knows
this and has made the Sheffield his official home away from
home kind of place.
What does it take to be a good
Bartender?
“A good bartender has to
be aware when their customer
needs a drink. You have to know
what your regulars drink before
they sit down and always call
your customer by their name &
listen to them when they need a
shoulder to lean on. I really get
to know my patrons and they all
know me” she says.
Shanon is very outspoken and
smiles a lot ... she’s upbeat and
it shows. People don’t want to
be around somebody that’s dull
behind the bar. She really sparks
the attention and jokes around
and she pulls no punches and
tells it like it is. ”When I am
behind the bar I tell you how it is
... I have no filter”
The atmosphere has to be
friendly around a bar - people
want to go to a place where
they can feel really cool. She
even will buy some of her regulars a drink...
Shanon has a nice following
and it shows. Stop over to
meet her soon. Let her know

Musician Impossible Making Success Look Easy
by John J. Ruppert
With almost one year under
their belt as the reigning
Champions of The 102.9
WMGK House Band competition ‘Musician Impossible’
continues to prove nothing is
impossible when it comes to
entertaining their fans the way
only they have proven they
can. Each time they hit that
stage they deliver Classic Rock
the way it was always meant to
be. With Tight Music, On Point
Vocals and Renditions that will
have you scratching your head
while clapping your hands. The
Champion’s reign is almost up
but with or without a title Musician Impossible will continue
to give their huge audiences
exactly what they came for.
Classic Rock with today’s spin
to bring you in and leave you
begging for more as you walk
out that door.
I recently spoke with Dave
Ramani their drummer and the
one who planned the whole
mission. “In July 2012 I got
the desire to enter the 102.9
WMGK House Band Contest
so I called the best musicians
as well as friends that I had
and Musician Impossible was
formed. When we won it felt
amazing. The band put a lot of
time and hard work into getting
everything right from the vocal
harmonies to the guitar solos
and everything in between.
We’ve received a lot of great
exposure from doing all the
WMGK Events. People see
us and they tell their friends
and so on. It’s been great. As
winners of the contest we get
to open up for a national act
for the stations ‘Let Freedom
Rock Festival’ July 3rd at The
Susquehanna Bank Center. We
found out it’s going to be Styx,
Foreigner and Don Felder of
The Eagles so that’s going to
be our best gig ever.”
I asked Dave
how the band
stays in touch
with their fans
current and
new ones,
“Social Media
seems to be
the way to go.
Facebook and
Twitter is what
we keep up
on. We update
and post
regularly so
we can keep
everybody
up to speed
as to what
we’re doing.
We have an
awesome fan
base that gets
bigger every
time we play.”
Dave went on to give advice
for bands out there and how all
the hard work pays off, “Work
on getting tight musically and
vocally. There’s no better feeling
than hearing you and your band
mates re-create music as it was
recorded. It’s always nice to be
complimented. It makes us feel
like we’re doing a good job. A
patron recently came up to us
between sets and told us while
we were playing that he used
the app Soundhound on his
phone and the songs came up
with the original artists. Hearing
the MGK on air DJ’s talk about
us after we won the contest was
nice too.”
I asked Dave about his sets
and any special songs that drive
the crowd wild, “Bohemian
Rhapsody does it every time.
We’ll be doing Hotel California
one day soon as well. Sometimes the set list gets tossed
when we arrive at a venue. We’ll
just play what the people want
to hear and dance too. We got
Freebird requested so much that
now we just play it whenever
someone screams it. Although
we’re a cover band we do have
some original material that we
may record in the future. We
have merchandise available
through our web site as well.”
Our meeting ended with Dave
once again thanking everyone
for their support of the band
as he began getting excited
thinking about their upcoming shows, “We’ll keep dishing
out the best classic rock ever
made. We won’t stop. Spread
the word to your family, friends,
neighbors and anyone you can
because without all of you we
don’t exist.”
Some Missions in life are
Impossible but this is one that
can be done as long as anyone
with a desire to hear Classic
Rock played live the way you
remembered it or only dreamed
it could be played then stay on
the course with the Champions
‘Musician Impossible’.

Meet Jason Ruch of 0x1 Sound Studio
By Kevin Law, Owner of PhillyRockRadio.com and host of
The Saloon Rock Club, Thursdays at 7p.m.
Jason Ruch LOVES sound.
He produces it, promotes it,
distributes it, and teaches it to
aspiring engineers at Burlington
County College. He has owned
and operated 0x1 Sound Studio since 2002, operating a 750
sq. ft. studio until five years ago
when he relocated to Cherry
Hill, NJ, expanding to a 3,000
sq. ft. facility, housing two highend studios.
Ruch is a lifelong fan of the
metal scene, personally favoring the more dark and heavy
doom, industrial and goth varieties. Though he is well-known
for his productions of heavy
bands from all flavors of metal
and hard rock, 0x1 Sound
boasts a diverse portfolio producing bands and artists of all
genres, as well as audio books,
radio commercials and corporate training videos. “Right now,
I am working with a really cool
hip hop act made up of oldschool punk rock fans doing
a Beastie Boys kind of thing,”
said Ruch, “and, over the next
several weeks, I will be working
with a band from Switzerland
and two others from Texas and
Maine. I am honored that bands
and labels are willing to travel
far to work with me.”
As stated earlier, Jason not
only produces sound by he also
distributes it. “I am part owner,
along with Mike Ransom, of
Unable Distribution, a very
powerful music distribution
and marketing company. We
deal with 400 outlets in over
270 countries and distribute
for record labels and unsigned
artists. Some large labels have
contracted us and they’ve been
really happy with the results.
We’ve set ourselves apart
from our competition and have
signed several new clients lately.
They’ve come to us because
they’ve been disappointed
using other popular distribution outlets. Visit our website
unabledistribution.com for more
information.”
In addition to 0x1, Jason
has a second company, Audio
Zombie, which is hired to create
music, sound effects and sound
design for the horror industry.
Jason is currently working on
audio for two major films, three
large haunted attractions and
six different animatronic companies.
Given his wide range of
talents, I asked Jason what he
considers to be his specialty,
“If you asked my last 20 clients,
they would give
you 20 different
answers. For
my film and corporate clients
my specialty is
Foley and sound
design. From musicians I get a lot
of compliments
on the guitar
and drum tones
that I get. I pride
myself on the
attention to detail
I apply on every
project. I think my specialty is
that I’m diverse. I am not your
typical producer who does the
same tricks for all of his clients.
I love every part of the creative
process no matter what style of
music it is. It just has to have
substance and connect with
you. Music is the most powerful
thing out there. Too many bands
have lost their sonic fingerprint
working with people who create
within a formula.”
Jason’s advice for young
bands, “Be yourself. Originality is something that will shine
through.”

BACK FOR SECONDS: “ATCO VS. ALZHEIMER’S: ROUND TWO” BENEFIT FEATURES LOCAL BANDS & ENTERTAINMENT
For the second consecutive year,
local entertainers will join forces
for one special day at “Atco vs.
Alzheimer’s: Round Two,” a benefit
concert and performance to raise
money for Alzheimer’s research, care
and support services. Five bands, as
well as comedian Tim Grill, will come
together on Sunday, June 22, from
noon to 6 p.m., at Racks Restaurant
and Sports Bar, located at 286 White
Horse Pike in Atco, New Jersey.
The bands featured in the day’s
entertainment include The Blitz,
Goodman Fiske, Shut Up Justice,
Triple Dog Dare, and Mark Evans,
formerly of Heavens Edge. Tickets
are $25 and available at EventBrite.
com. They will also be available
at the event. Proceeds
benefit the Alzheimer’s
Association Delaware
Valley Chapter, which
serves Delaware, South
Jersey and Southeastern
Pennsylvania.
“Alzheimer’s is a disease that has personally
touched me and another
member of our band,”
said Rich Bradley, event
organizer and drummer
for Triple Dog Dare. “We
were discussing ways
that we could help raise
money to help find a
cure for the disease, and
came up with this event.”
Goodman Fiske
According to Bradley, the most
difficult part of the event was
deciding the lineup, since so many
bands volunteered to participate,
including Goodman Fiske, Shut
Up Justice and Triple Dog Dare -groups that performed in last year’s
event as well.
“The local music community has
been tremendously supportive,”
Bradley said. “Everyone I’ve told
about the event has volunteered to
play or help out in some way. Both
Goodman Fiske and Shut Up Justice were really enthusiastic about
playing again this year. The Blitz
asked if they could be involved,
which was a great surprise and an
honor to be able to include them.
I grew up with both Mark and Tim
in Northeast Philly, and they were
on board as soon as I told them
about it.”
Bradley expects “Atco vs. Alzheimers: Round Two” to raise at least
$5,000 – more than the $2,000
raised at last year’s show.
“We are so appreciative of these
band members, who’ve all chosen
to donate their musical talent for
an entire day,” said Linda Coppinger, Executive Director South Jersey
for the Alzheimer’s Association
Delaware Valley Chapter. “Their
efforts will help fund research, as
well as the programs and services
we offer to as many as
85,000 South Jerseyans who are affected by
dementia. The difference
their support is making
cannot be overstated.”
In addition to the
bands, chances for gift
baskets and other fundraisers will take place
throughout the afternoon
to raise additional money
for the cause.
Alzheimer’s, a degenerative brain disease, is the
most common form of
dementia, and the United
States’ sixth-leading
cause of death. It af-
fects more than five million people
nationwide and is the only one of the
top-ten deadliest diseases that has
no cure, no way to prevent it or even
slow its progression.
“We’re expecting a fantastic
turnout for this show, but more
importantly we want to make people
aware and educate them about
Alzheimer’s, and the effect the
disease can have – not just on the
person who has it but the entire
family as well,” Bradley said. “If we
can do that, and hopefully raise a
lot of money in the process, then
the day will have to be considered a
success.”
The event is open to all ages.

CONNOR BARWIN
MAKE THE WORLD BETTER FOUNDATION
TO HOST INAUGURAL BENEFIT CONCERT
JUNE 20
Action shot of Connor Barwin photo by
Andy Lewis/contrastphotography.com
By AL THOMPSON
Eagles Connor Barwin is a big,
tough defensive end whose job it
is to knock the be-jabbers out of
running backs and quarterbacks
every Sunday.
It may be hard to imagine a
6-foo-4, 264-pound lineman
learning the nuances of playing a
musical instrument, even the one
Barwin was coaxed into playing as
a youth.
“I was in the band...I played the
drums in high school,”Barwin said
with a laugh recently. “I wasn’t very
good, but I was in the band. My
parents made me and all my brothers all learn an instrument when we
were kids. I’ve always has an appreciation for what musicians do.”
That fundamental love for music
and how it is created brought
Barwin and the Philadelphia area
sports and music communities
together for a good cause.
“There are very people I don’t
know that don’t either love football
or love music,” said Barwin who
has 168 tackles, 23 sacks and 26
passes defended during his fiveyear NFL career . “You cover a lot
of categories when you hit those
two areas.”
The “Make The World Better
Foundation” (MTWB), established
in 2013 by Barwin, will hold its inaugural benefit concert at Philadelphia music venue Union Transfer
on June 20, 2014, featuring 2013’s
“Philly Artist of the Year” Kurt Vile
and the Violators.
Barwin informs there are three
area bands to perform June 20,
two are from the Delaware Valley, both are getting looks at the
national level. In addition to Kurt
Vile the plus The Districts are from
here.
Also performing are The Tontons from Houston, home of the
Houston Texans, the other NFL
team Barwin played for before
joining the Eagles before the 2013
season.
“It’s two great Philadelphia
Bands that are playing,” Barwin said. “We’re trying to bring
the musicians, athletes and the
community all together for what
the concert is doing, then all the
money that we raise is going to
directly to a park in South Philly.
It’s keeping everything local...
the musicians, the Eagles will be
there. It’s going to make a real big
difference for Ralph Brooks Park.”
Barwin said he found the park
in need almost by accident.
“This is a playground I found
just riding my bike down in South
Philly,” Barwin said. “I met a lot
of people in the community that
have been working on this revitalization project. I just got involved,
and with the help of these musicians and all the work they’ve
already done on this park we’re
going to push it over the edge
and break construction this fall.”
Barwin said he got this concert
and effort by just following his
music nose.
“I really just enjoy to go see
live music,” Barwin said. “I’ve
met some of the people in the
music industry, Union Transfer said
they would donate their facility
to host the show, so I just saw
an opportunity to try and make a
difference. The musicians were all
about it. They wanted to donate
their services, it just seemed like
the right thing to do. We hope to
bring together the local athletic
and artistic communities in order to
bring about positive change for the
children of our city.”
All proceeds from the concert
will be donated and matched by
Barwin’s MTWB Foundation for
the revitalization project at Ralph
Brooks Park in South Philadelphia.
The renovation will include a new
state-of-the-art basketball court,
safe and well-lit play areas, an urban farm and a mural by renowned
local artist Steve Powers.
Barwin said he wants this to be
a permanent event in the Philadelphia area.
“I have a big vision where this is
going to go,” Barwin said. “This is
just the first show. I want this to be
an annual thing. It’s all benefiting
my foundation which is called the
“Make the World Better Foundation,” this is just the beginning. I
see it going on for a long time.”

concert and the Ralph Brooks Park
revitalization project, please visit

93.3 WMMR presents…MMRBQ 2014
By…Jimmy Abgarian
Saturday May 10th saw the kickoff of the 2014 concert
season at the Susquehanna Bank Arena in Camden NJ.
As always the first show of the season is the radio station
sponsored MMRBQ. WMMR is Philadelphia’s premier rock
station having out lasted all of their competition. Since
1968 WMMR has managed to stay relevant while introducing their audience to new bands.
From its inception in 2007 the MMRBQ has been delivering a great package of new and established bands to
promote the radio station and to say thanks to the fans
that support them. The Festival vibe always helps the flow
of the day. For the past 5 years I have been covering this
event for Out On The Town. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it’s hot, and sometimes it’s cold. Those scenarios
are never problems when it comes to the people who
come to this event. It’s an amazing party year after year.
More important than that, it’s affordable which is why it
is filled to capacity every year. I have to admit that when
the lineup was announced for this year I was surprised by
the choices. Looking at the positive side of things I got to
see bands I don’t think I would have made an effort to see
before this show. Let’s get to the show.
John The Conqueror
A band featured on Jaxon’s local shots, John the Conqueror is so underrated it’s a crime. How this band isn’t
selling a million records or downloads is beyond comprehension. Funky, bluesy rock that forces you to move while
they are performing is what it’s all about. The early crowd
really dug them and I can see them selling some Cd’s and
t-shirts because of it.
Jim Breuer Band
Most people know Jim Breuer as a comedian who loves
heavy metal music and can do a few good impersonations
of his favorite singers. James Hettfield and Brian Johnson are his best impressions. Why would he be booked
on a terrestrial radio show knowing he has a show on
Sirius/XM? I guess it’s not a conflict to some people. His show was
exactly what you would think it was.
He talked over a lot of the music and
sang pretty well. I was a fun show
and not the average run of the mill
comedian turned singer bullshit. He
performs like a neighborhood kid in
a garage band that maybe smoked a
little to much weed that day. That is a
compliment because that has always
been his game. I would see him again
if he came around again just because
it was so different.
FUEL
I’ve seen
Fuel a couple
of times in
recent years
with original
singer Brett
Scallions.
They played
their first show
with Brett’s
version of Fuel
at the 2010
MMRBQ. That
show was
worlds away
from what I witnessed on this day.
They are out supporting their new
record “Puppet Strings”. The new record has ten songs of straight ahead
rock. There is no glossy bullshit that
is prevalent in a lot of today’s music.
It has been rumored that Brett has
not been able to sing the same after
having surgery to repair a deviated
septum. It was from a accident he
suffered on stage with Carl Bell. The
few time I have seen them in the last
few years, Brett’s voice was always a
little off for some reason. It’s not terrible or embarrassing. It just cracked
a few times here and there. Their
stage set was top notch this time and
the rocked from start to finish. They
played most of their hits and the new
stuff was great. Even though Brett is
the only original member of Fuel it’s
great to see him sing these songs
and not one of the other 5 projects
he’s done over the years. This is
Brett’s best stuff and it showed. The
crowd was extremely hot for them
singing all of the hits and responding well to the new songs. One weird
thing for me was that the mic Stands
had GoPro cameras on them, so it would seem they were
shooting a video or obtaining footage for a future project.
Brett’s voice sounded great the entire set. I really hope that
their new record takes off because it’s good. It was great to
see Fuel back to where they belong, playing in front of big
crowds.
Dropkick Murphys
This is a band I never would have thought to see before
this event. Not that they aren’t popular or have a huge fan
base but because it’s not my scene. Irish punk music from
Boston is exactly what I would expect. It was fun and loud
and catchy. There was lot’s of energy and fun until….
Bass player Ken Casey made a fatal flaw. He said, “we
want to get done soon so we can go watch hockey. You
people may not like hockey too much but we do”. Thunderous boos from the Flyers faithful. He then tried to spin it
saying, “Whom do you want to win the American team or
the foreign team?” It was not a smart move for someone
trying to win over a crowd. Then he went for the save by
saying,” if the shoe was on the other foot and your team
was in the playoffs we would support you”. It sounded like
Bullshit to me. It took the air out of their set from that point
on.
After their set the house was cleared for the free general admission. This was a pretty quick change over that
seemed to go flawlessly.
Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Experience
I heard on more than a few occasions that this was the
closest anyone would get to seeing Led Zeppelin again. I’ve
seen JBLZE before with all of the video screens and lights.
This was a lot different because it was really stripped down.
A red flag for me was when they started “When the Levee
Breaks” and Jason wasn’t playing. It makes me wonder
how much was real and how much was fake. Singer James
Dylan is an amazing copy of all things Robert Plant. He
sounded absolutely amazing. From the inflections to the
annunciation of the words he was spot on. They were the
best Led Zeppelin tribute band I have ever seen. It was
moving to hear my all time favorite bands songs performed
so flawlessly. Guitarist Tony Catania is from Cherry Hill Nj..
This was sort of a homecoming for him. They played every
song you would want to hear Led Zeppelin play. As cliché
as this may sound, their set was worth the price of admission if no one else played the rest of the night. I really hope
they continue and play some of the more obscure songs
from the Led Zeppelin catalog.
VOLBEAT
Who is the hell is Volbeat
and how did they get such a
high billing on this show? I’ll
tell you who they are. They
are a Danish Rock band
from Copenhagen that rock.
They have so many styles
that it’s almost impossible
to classify them. I was very
surprised by the welcome
they received. People went absolutely bananas for them.
Rob Caggiano formerly of Anthrax plays lead guitar for the
band as their newest member.
Maybe it is my lack of knowledge on the dialect of the
Danish language but I couldn’t understand anything the
singer was saying to the crowd. It’s hard to criticize their
music when so many people there were digging it. I really
hope they learn a little humility through their success when
it comes to giving interviews. Singer Michael Poulsen blew
off a very important interviewer earlier in the day and it got
around quick. As for the set, it was very good. I wouldn’t
mind seeing them again. If there was a band poised for a
break out year then Volbeat is it.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Rob Zombie. I do know
that Peter Chris showed up and played “God of thunder”. If
I were to rate the day I would give it a solid 8. The reasons
for the score are that it should have been on a Sunday. Also
having the headliner go on at 11pm makes it hard for people
who work all day and then have a long drive home. It was
still a great day and an awesome opening to the summer
concert season. Live Nation and WMMR did it right.

Striving for the Ultimate, Is It Worth It?
© Dr Lou 6-2014 right to be
sprayed, denied…
There you are, looking out
from the stage, your crowd
is doing that basic chatter
that you’ve heard in your
ears since the grade school
cafeteria (nicknamed the
BacTeria). You used to have
butterflies but over the years
you sprayed them rascals
with the insecticide of experience on the stage. You
know the drill and have been
at it for years, but somehow
tonight, these winged vampires are back in the air.
This is the first time you’re
playing the “big time”, opening for the major act and
though you know the music,
you know there have been
times over the years where
you hit foul balls on some
shows. You look to the left
and your lead guitar man
is plucking “noodle” notes
and adjusting some knobs.
You look to the right and
your bass player is checking the “g” string so he’s in
tune and looks over with a
smile as if to say, I’m ready,
just waiting on you. The
drummer is tapping lightly
around the rim of the drums
testing them out and does
a shoulder shrug to prepare
for the constant dance that
has to be executed perfectly
or the whole game goes in
the brown hole. An then you
turn to the audience, take
that deep breath and are
about to count; but there
is a split second that peels
back in your mind; so much
like those moments where
you’re driving and some
ignorant moron cuts you off
and your whole life passes
in front of your eyes; this
time, and what you’ll find to
be not the last time, what
you see is the journey of
how you were able to reach
that stage, smell the heating of the equipment and
the vibe of the room. It’s
a cumulative realization of
the act of “striving”; yes the
striving for this exact thing,
your chance to play this
game, and what a game it’s
been. In this short eternity
of time, you remember the
first times you met the players on your team, the band.
You remember how you got
up together and somehow
clicked. You feel the joy of
good times and the pressure of the bad times come
running back to you and
the clock seems to go
backwards and everything
kind of comes to a complete “freeze frame”. And
this pseudo time machine
moment of appreciation, you
realize IS the actual gift, it’s
the ultimate that you were
waiting for. The moment of
realization that you’re there,
whether this is the first time
you played out or your first
mega venue, it’s the prize
in the jacks box that you
were working for all that
time. All the money you
spent on gear, maybe some
lessons, or at the very least
countless times sitting with
your instrument and thinking; crying; because you
thought to yourself; there are
so many other great players, how could I get there.
Well you’ve got your answer,
your there. This realization
or revelation, comes with a
price though because every time you think you’ve
reached your ultimate goal,
you’ll find that just beyond
that is a new shiny one calling you out like a spirit in the
night, evoking fear into your
whole body like a cold shot
of blood that you used to
get when you heard noises
in the night. Staring up at
the darkness of your room
as a scared child wondering;
what am I doing here? What
is my place in this terrifying
world? Well your answer is
now plain and clear in front
of your eyes; it’s the “striving for the ultimate” that you
have been chasing all along,
and now again, still in this
postage stamp in the long
letter of your life, you’re still
taking it all in and continue
to reflect.
then for an even briefer moment, catch, if you look, a
small window just in front
of you and you take a fraction of a second to view in
there, only to find a picture
of a future, or a potential
future; this is the window
to the next ultimate, set to
replace this one like another
duck on the shooting game
you played at the arcade at
the beach as a child, or the
next Skee-ball that you grab
and toss for points to get
useless prizes that you want
so dear. It’s here and in this
precious sliver of time, you
realize that you’ve found
peace. It’s calming for a
short second, then you lift
your arm, counting 1, 2, 3,
4; Pow, down on the strings
you drive your hand and the
others on the team hit the
first note with precision that
would make a marksman
weep. The sound is rich and
loud and the game is on, the
people’s eyes are staring and
wondering, why can’t I be up
there? That must be such
an amazing rush, but then
they utter the same cooling
commentary that you once
did; “oh I could never”. Well
like any comment, it is heard
by your mind and in order to
find your ultimate, you need
to drive that conversation
over to the whole, “why not
me”, side of the tracks. Believe me, it’s nice over there
and it makes getting through
the day a whole lot more fun
if you are “striving for the
ultimate” in something, you
pick it, but don’t go around
without that tiny window as
You can hear the comments your guide, it’s as real as

Dave & Buster’s @
Franklin Mills Mall
By: Roundhouse Ron
If you are anything like your
boy Roundhouse Ron, well
then, I guess you will always remain a kid at heart & never grow
up. Being a kid at heart like you
are, I found the perfect spot to
play arcade games, shoot sum
pool wit friendz or go bowling
wit your familia, all while enjoying sum fabulous fun gourmet
foodie selections & innovative
adult beverages in a world class
sports bar. The place I speak of
is “Dave & Buster’s” @ Franklin
Mills Mall.
Yes, I know “Dave & Buster’s”
is a nationally very well known
establishment wit having their
brand of entertainment mega
complexes in 26 states wit over
70 location & they also have
spots in Honolulu, Hawaii as
well as in Toronto, Canada. I
have selected da Franklin Mills
Location, ummm, yea, because
it is da nearest location to my
little casa el rancho.
This all began in the late 70’s
in Little Rock, Arkansas, where
two establishments existed side
by side in location, but worlds
apart in concept. Inside da classic setting of da Missouri Pacific
Train Station, two very different
establishments enjoyed a brisk
trade.
A man named “Buster”
ran a favorite watering hole.
“Buster’s” restaurant boasted
casual elegance, warm historic
ambience & wonderful eclectic
food served up by some of da
friendliest people in town.
Next door, another man was
also enjoying a bustling business. “Dave”
ran “Slick
Willy’s World of
Entertainment”.
Here people were
almost irresistibly drawn by
his selection of
outrageous fun
& games for big
people. These
two young entrepreneurs & neighbors became fast
friends.
“Dave &
Buster” soon
discovered they
had a unique traffic phenomenon.
Patrons would
often be seen
going from one
business to the
other. An idea began to form, what
would happen
if they put both
establishments
under one roof?
After a year or
so of scratching
out a rough plan,
“Dave & Buster”
gathered a few
hard earned dol-
lars, a few close friends & went
in search of the right location to
begin building a dream.
The two young men, “Dave &
Buster” were both attracted to a
spot named “Restaurant Row”
in Dallas, Texas. There, perched
right at da end, they found an
empty 40,000 square foot warehouse. Having been proclaimed
certifiably krazy by many in
da restaurant industry, “Dave
& Buster” dove headlong into
construction. In December of
1982, da doors were opened on
da very first “Dave & Buster’s”
known to man.
Entering da “Dave & Buster’s”
@ Franklin Mills Mall, I was
greeted very warmly by a
personable & informative gurl
named “Mary”. This front desk
goddess paged my man “Bill”
(general manager) to inform him
that I was in da building that
“Dave” & “Buster” built.
Finding a comfortable seat
in da main dining area, I notice
how awesome my surrounding were both visually & sound
wise. Wit floor to ceiling huge
azz flat screen televisions, I had
total coverage of any sporting event in da entire world. I
was seriously amazed at da
complete ambiance experience
including da relaxed seating,
well lit area & just a general sit
back unwinding vibe.
I started off my “Dave & Buster’s” journey wit a tasty “Miami
Ice Snow Cone” & a “Key Lime
Coconut Margarita”, served
up by mixologist’s “Nicole”
(bartender) & “Jim” (bartender).
Wow, this place has sum wildly
ridiculous adult beverages. Well
worth da visit just for the bar/
drink menu selections.
As this very attractive woman
dressed in manager attire approached me, I noticed she was
coming to see if I was ok & if
service was satisfactory. Her
name was “Stephanie” (service
manager), I then asked her
to join me so I could pick her
brain about “Dave & Buster’s”.
“Stephanie’s” knowledge of this
extraordinary eatery was kinda
refreshing in a very positive
way. She knew da complete
history & names of any damn
product “Dave & Buster’s”
offers. I must personally thank
“Steph” for the grand master
tour & royal treatment during
my visit.
First up in my foodie review was
“The 5:15”, which was named
after da time (5:15) of da very
first sale @ da very first “Dave
& Buster’s” in da great state of
Texas. This plate was huge with
5 fresh “Chicken Quesadilla
Wedges” wit salsa, 5 hearty
“Buffalo Wings” wit ranch or
blue cheese for dipping, 5
100% all beef “Pretzel Dogs”,
5 lightly battered “Crispy Fried
Shrimp” wit habanero sauce &
completely loaded with a stack
of fresh BBQ potato chips treat
wit house seasoning. I am talkin
layers on top of layer of flavoring fit for a king and his court or
a party of 5 could have a blast
wit this appetizer fantasy feast.
My bourbon smelling nose
was now being teased to da
max, cause coming to me was
my boy “Eric” (assistant general
manager) wit da “Maker’s Mark
Smokehouse BBQ Burger” in
hands. WTF, how can I possibly put into words what I am
feeling at this moment? This
extraordinary plate contained
an enormous half pound juicy
burger, seasoned & grilled to
perfection, smoother it with a
tangy Maker’s Mark bourbon
sauce & then they topped it
off wit two slices of American
cheese. It doesn’t stop there,
taken shyt to da next level
as it’s then topped wit a pile
of smoky ancho pulled pork
on top a bed of caramelized
onions, all served on a toasted
brioche bun. Throw in sum
lettuce, tomato & pickles for
good measure. Let’s not forget
about the generous serving of

crispy golden seasoned fries.
In da world of burgers, this is
da real dealio, as it was fortified
wit big bold flavors that this boy
seriously enjoys.
Since I always luv to try & eat
healthy, I ordered up a “Grilled
Chicken & Artichoke Pasta” dish.
What I had here was a nice piece
of sliced flame grilled chicken
breast, served over a multigrain
penne pasta perfectly cooked,
tossed in garlic, olive oil, melted
butter & a white wine sauce
wit oven roasted tomatoes,
spinach, artichoke hearts & fresh
basil, then topped wit shredded
parmesan cheese. All I can say is
this chicken was so damn tender
as it melted in my mouth, this
was almost freakin me out wit full
throttle goodness.
Let me tell you a little bit about
my main dude “Chef Kante Ndiaye” (kitchen manager), he is da
culinary genius that takes food,
performs sum kind of magical
wizardry & then produces pure
foodie masterpieces. “Chef
Kante” has graced many people
with his amazing creations, from
Canada, France, Japan, Mexico,
Monaco, Portugal & now us
here in far NE silly Philly. He has
worked in sum of this country’s
best five star restaurants like
“The Castle on the Hudson” in
Tarrytown, NY. Even the internationally know “CARAS” magazine
did a feature story on “Kante”.
He has 2 awesome kids, “Gabriel” (3 years old) & “Isaiah” (14
years old), along wit his beautiful
wife “Kimberly”, they live just
outside of our fine city of Philadelphia. This man has talents
that he has not even discovered
yet, I can tell cause his skill sets
are freakin spot on wit flavoring,
seasoning & creativity. He could
cook for me anytime & any place,
“Chef Kante” is for real & is now
in da spectacular ROCKSTAR
category of culinary chefs.
Like a true professional chef
& culinary wizard of sexy foodie
delights, “Chef Kante” whipped
me up a few of his personal
favorite selections. Going into
extra innings first wit a “Tower of
Salad”, as it was a six inch tower
of freshly diced fruit & vegetables
like sweet apples, red onions,
green peppers, cucumbers,
radishes, red chilli tomatoes &
chalets, all mixed in wit sum romaine lettuce. Then it’s seasoned
wit salt & crushed pepper corn,
topped off wit a house balsamic
dressing. This was absolutely
out of bound wit a fresh & light
approach to salad creations. No
worries, I finished every bite.
As we continue, “Chef Kante”
prepared for me an “Atlantic
Salmon Crusted With Pistachios”. This was completely insane as the salmon was cooked
perfectly wit a crust of crushed
pistachio nuts & chopped parsley. The Ying (basil glaze) & Yang
(roasted red pepper drizzle) was
an absolute rightgest touch on
dis outstanding dish.
Finishing up wit my main
entrée fest, I received a fresh
“Prime Rib Eye” done perfectly
on the medium side of life, so
that I can enjoy da natural
flavoring & seasoning. Joining
this pleasure plate was a side
of pristinely cooked couscous
wit golden raisins & scallions for
flavoring. Two cups of dipping
sauces were accompanying this
plate, a house A1 type sauce &
a house French grand mustard
sauce. I feel like I have died &
went to culinary heaven, seriously!!
Let me end this right here wit
a sweet retreat to cheesecake
paradise, wit a slice of “NY Style
Cheese Cake”, fresh orange
slices brandy marmalade,
drizzled wit a chocolate syrup
& a raspberry puree. Placed
gently on top was real orange
sugar chips for flavoring &
presentation. Please don’t take
my word for it, just get your azz
over to “Dave & Buster’s” as
soon as possible, hey, bring lots
of your familia & friendz, cause
this place has an all new foodie
menu that is simply phenomenal.
Entertaining adults & kids
alike, “Dave & Buster’s” is a
full service mega recreational
amusement complex wit an
extraordinary foodie menu. This
place is great for meetings, parties, gatherings, social events,
birthdays & even a wedding
(yes, they already had a few
couples get married & hold their
reception here). Just ask for the
extended “Chef Kante” catering
VIP menu. It will knock your
freakin socks off & I guarantee
you will be amazed beyond
belief. Eat, Drink, Play, Repeat.
Please swing by for sum
devilishly delicious food, I
promise, you will not be disappointed. “Dave & Buster’s” has
