The Cranberries Newsletter, issue 1, June 1995
H ello!
Welcome to the first issue of
’Twenty One’, a newsletter
for fans of The Cranberries.
In this issue, among other
things
there
is
a
Discography, a review of the
video and information about
available merchandise.
As this is the first issue and
at the moment we have
very few readers and.
contributors, I have had to
put the newsletter together
using information I already
had about the band. I really
need to hear from you; please send in any information,
features, pictures, reviews, artwork, etc. that you think
will interest other fans. I would also appreciate your
suggestions/comments about the newsletter.
I hope to publish ’Twenty One’ quarterly but of course
this depends on the amount of interest in the newsletter
and the information available to me at the time.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue...

The Platinum album “
No Need To Argue”is doing very
well at the moment and is currently enjoying it’
s 37th
week in the UK top 40 album chart. It reached as high as
number two in it’
s first week of release. The last two
singles to be taken from this album have not done as well
as those taken from the first album. “
I Can’
t Be With
You”CD (released in March) came in a two part CD box
set. The first part contained two extra tracks; “
Empty”
(a Radio One evening session recording from September
1994) and a very good cover of The Carpenter’
s “
Close
To Y ou”
. The second disc had a live version of “
Daffodil
Lament”(recorded at Feile, Tipperary in July 1994) and
an acoustic version of “
Zombie”(from MTV Europe). This
single was very well packaged with yet more photos of
that chair! The highest chart position was 28 and it spent
three weeks in the chart.
“
Ode To My Family” entered the top 40 at no. 38 in
December 1994. The extra tracks were “
So Cold In
Ireland”
, “
No Need To Argue” and “
Dreaming My
Dreams”
. The second CD for the box set had tracks “
Ode
To My Family (Live), “
Dreams” (Live), “
Ridiculous
Thoughts”(Live) and “
Zombie (Live).
’
Zombie’did well in October 1994 (highest chart position:
No. 13). The first CD contained “
Zombie”
,“
Away”and “
I
D on’
t N eed”
. The second CD contained “
Zombie” (Full
length album version), “
Waltzing Back” (Live) and
“
Linger”(Live). Both live tracks on this disc are acoustic
and were recorded live at the Fleadh Festival on the 11th
June 1994.
If you had wanted to see The Cranberries live on their
last tour but it was cancelled because of Dolores’knee
problems, they are doing a few stadium dates this
summer. For dates and venues, see back page.

THE CRANBERRIES MUSIC BOOK
The music for the Album “
Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why
Can’

piano/vocal/guitar. This is priced at around £12.95 and can
be bought at large branches of Our Price and HMV as well as
musical shops. It contains all the tracks from the album.
Published by Polygram Music Publishing Group and
distributed by Hal Leonard. ISBN 0-7935-3143-8. Hal Leonard
say they are in the process of publishing a UK version of this
title. The book for “
No Need To Argue”may also be available
on import, although I have not seen it anywhere. Both titles
can be ordered from MUSIC DISPATCH in America but this
could prove to be an expensive way of buying them. “
No Need
To Argue”is priced at $14.95 and airmail charges would be
about $19.00. The address for orders and enquiries is: MUSIC
DISPATCH, PO Box 13920, Milwaukee, W1 53213, USA.

A review of the video
If you’ve never noticed how small Dolores O’Riordan is, you
will in this video, and if you’ve never seen her smile, well,
prepare to be shocked!
In this collection of 15 tracks, taken from both the debut
and the second album, the band begin with a silent version
of “Pretty”. She gets the crowd started off with “Linger”,
willing them to join in the chorus, and she begins prancing
up and down with a rather tune-adapting, or rather voiceadapting version of “Ridiculous Thoughts”.
Dolores really gets the crowd up with the lively “Dreams”.
Then Pergal gets the chance to let his hair down and so do
the camera men in “Zombie”. I now find it easier to
understand why Fergal got his hair cut!
Following a couple of B-sides, Dolores and the boys wind up
with “Still Can’t...”, where she shows off her dancing skills
(Yet again!).
This video is proof that The Cranberries are certainly a
very original band!
