FOCUS ON THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
There’s a new VP in town, and he has joined the Colson
Group team with his sights set on the customer
experience. Brad Beltz joined Colson Group USA in
January as Vice President of Distribution and Customer
Service, and is based in St. Joseph, MI. He has extensive
experience in progressive operations and customer
service leadership roles, and is a certified Six Sigma Black
Belt–focused on a proven methodology of improving
business processes, and driving customer satisfaction.
Brad knew he had to effectively position Colson Group
USA’s Inside Sales and Customer Service teams with their
service delivery capabilities, and has recently shifted
them to be part of his Operations organization. This
shift aligns the inside sales and operations teams to work
closely together–providing quicker access to information,
and freeing up time to better service customers.
“A single point of leadership amongst all our inside sales
consultants was vital,” Brad said. “With that now in place,
we are working toward standard procedures across
all facilities—so that our customers experience the same
level of service from all locations. And the goal for that
level is, first class.”
Brad is also highly focused on process improvements
around the new ERP technology that was implemented
in the Jonesboro (AR), Chino (CA), and St. Joseph
(MI) facilities, as well as their phone technology. His
immediate focus targets:
•
•
•
•
On-time delivery and customer responsiveness
Automated communication upgrades
Procedure standardization across all facilities
Inventory planning and reliability
COLSON GROUP INVESTS IN NEW
POLYURETHANE WHEEL LINE
Colson Group USA proudly announces a major investment
in process and equipment for a new and advanced
polyurethane wheel line in their Newnan, GA facility. These
investments allow Colson Group to produce higher-quality
polyurethane wheels–with greater production efficiency
and customer responsiveness.
“We’ve advanced the equipment, processes, and material
to create a work center optimized for quality polyurethane
wheels,” said Michael Nelson, Chief Operating Officer. “We
are also utilizing the highest-quality poly materials for

Colson Group’s investments in equipment and
processing include:
•
Mixing, Heating, and Pouring Machinery:

of impurities and faster demold times. The pour rate has also increased 230% over previous machinery. The system runs more efficiently, and outputs a much stronger bonded USA-Made polyurethane wheel.
•
Ultrasonic Core Cleaner: Utilizing the latest technology, Colson Group’s new ultrasonic cleaner
not only degreases the wheel core, but it also removes all micro debris embedded in the core surface
that will be bonded to the polyurethane. This results in up to a 40% improvement in Colson Group’s
tread-to-core bond strength.
•
Pre-Heat and Post-Cure Ovens: Innovative new pre-heat and post-cure ovens keep the wheel
temperature controlled and consistent throughout the manufacturing process. This control allows
the polyurethane to mold, bond and cure in the most optimal environment. The new ovens have
been strategically and ergonomically placed within the work cell for efficiency and core temperature control–which is essential for creating a strong and long-lasting wheel.
Testing and Quality Control: New quality controls have been implemented in conjunction with the
Advanced Pouring System
new machinery and processes. Daily tests are performed and recorded for poly durability and bond
strength. These tests ensure the poly wheel passes durability and will not flat spot, and that
it has a secure bond to the core; this is tested at 800 lbs. of force, which tears the poly before
separating the bond. All wheels are also stamped with a manufacturing date for control, and tested ...EQUIPMENT, PROCESSES,

FOCUS ON THE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
“Brad has the full support of the entire company,” said Michael Nelson,
Chief Operating Officer. “With a large team working together under
his leadership, we are seeing vast advancements, and he’s only begun.”
Improvements implemented in the past two months (with much more
in-works) include:
•
•
•
Faster, more consistent order acknowledgments–with daily
operations reviews for more accurate ship-dates
Automated delivery of packing slips with tracking information
Recent implementation of “ship-complete” order processing, for www.ColsonGroupUSA.com
•
accurate processing of shipping instructions–and optimized
customer freight
Updated phone systems for reduced wait times and increased
service level
“Progress has begun, but it is not perfection”, Brad said. “It’s clear in
every department that customer-facing issues take priority over any
others. We have a team that is focused on enhancing the customer
experience daily through better processes and new technology–and our
focus will remain around our customers, you can count on that.”
