Message from the President – Shawn Wilkie
It’s wonderful to see so many of our Copperfield residents outside, taking care of your lawns and your homes and emerging
from a long winter’s nap. I’ve heard several of you say this, and I agree: I feel like when winter comes we all start to
hibernate a little, and I miss the regular opportunities to get together with my friends and neighbors. Thank goodness for
spring and summer!
Now that we’re all emerging from our caves, I’d like to encourage everyone to find something that you enjoy doing with
other residents of Copperfield. Find a friend and walk your dogs together, or organize a group of people for a casual
hike at the Parklands. Join the growing number of residents who play volleyball in the field behind the clubhouse on
Sunday evenings. Grab another couple and play some cards or board games. If you don’t see any existing events that seem
interesting to you, use Nextdoor to find others who share your interests. Nextdoor conveniently provides the ability to
form groups, so like-minded individuals can connect with one another and coordinate schedules more easily. Think about
what you like to do, and then go out and find some people to do it with. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.
I say this a lot, but the quality of our community is all about the people it’s made up of. And we’re all more inclined to
be more considerate and thoughtful of each other when we feel connected to one another. It’s no surprise that in our
neighborhood survey, people who reported participating in neighborhood activities also reported higher satisfaction on
nearly all ratings. (The same holds true almost universally in similar types of surveys, by the way.) It’s a fact of life that
when you’re involved in something—whether it’s a school, church, neighborhood, a charity, or whatever—your feelings of
connectedness translate into a more positive and caring outlook. The world could use a lot more of that, and what better
place to start than at home, in your own neighborhood?
Hope to see you out and about, enjoying the weather and connecting with your neighbors.
Your neighbor,
Shawn

Copperfield Spring
Beautification Month
Let springtime bring out the best of
Copperfield!
Neighbors are strongly
encouraged to be responsible homeowners
this month by working on your property
to bring out its personal best! Don’t wait
any longer to take on those landscape,
painting and general maintenance projects.
Let’s clean it up! Work together with your
neighbors, ask for teenage help, or hire it
out. Let’s make Copperfield Louisville’s most
desirable neighborhood!
Here are a few suggestions that may be helpful.
• Make sure you are visible; you may miss out if you
cannot be seen from the street.
• Have all items marked with a price, and a size if
required.
• If an item runs on batteries have batteries available
or use an extension cord if electricity is needed.
• Arrange like items together on hangers or a table.
Clothing items should be clean.
• If possible have bags or boxes available for sold
items to be carried out by customers.
• If you are in the front of your home, keep the back
of your home locked.
• Don’t miss out on a sale because you do not have
change: a roll of quarters, 20 one dollar bills, 5
fives, 4 tens would be a good start. Price items so
you do not get into nickels and pennies. Have a
calculator handy and keep money on your person.
• Cash only sales, some people just look honest.
