A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
Liebe Mitglieder - Dear Members,
At the Inaugural Ball we said good-bye and thank you to three officers completing their terms,
Nicholas Hoeschel, Rod Meehan and Werner Freymann. We also welcomed three officers
beginning their terms, Chuck Maass, Vicky Farmer and Daniela Georgeff. This is the third time
since women were granted full membership privileges in 1963 that the board has had three lady
members. The leadership and contributions of our lady members are significant reasons for the
dynamic growth of the last fifty years and the current strength of the organization.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen,Carl Renner

Entertainment Committee
Thanks to the Entertainment Committee and some other volunteers,
The New Years Eve Party was a great success.
This is what we can achieve when members volunteer and work together as a team.
We had approximately 30 persons volunteer their time before, during and after the party.
These same people gave up their personal New Years Eve celebration for our guests to enjoy
themselves.
A huge thank you to all of them for their commitment to the Club.
They are the reason that we could provide a great event at an affordable price.

The Ladies
I would like to introduce the new President of the Ladies: Mary Normington.
Ann Marie Blaasch is now the new treasurer taking Marge Nagy's place.
Marge has been the treasurer for many years, I would like to thank her for all that she has done.
The next Ladies meeting is January 25th at 7:30 pm in the VSR. New members are
always welcome.
Judy Ariganello, Outgoing President of the Ladies.
The Singers
The DSB Singers have begun rehearsals for our Spring Programs. We meet in the Deutsche
Halle every Wednesday at 7:30pm for rehearsal. New members are always welcome. We have
two performances coming up in March. On Saturday March 12th, we will participate in the DSB
Stiftungsfest and on Sunday, March 13th we will be participating in the Liederabend (Evening of
Song) at the Cannstatter in Philadelphia.
Normally 5-7 choruses from the greater Philadelphia area attend this celebration and each chorus
performs for about 10 minutes and then several selections are presented by a mass chorus of all
of the chorus members. DSB members are welcome to join us. A bus will leave the DSB promptly
at 2:30 pm and return at about 9:00 pm. There should be about 15 seats available on the bus,
which is provided by the DSB. If you are interested in riding with us, please contact Sonja Ciresa
at 302 292-8677. The cost for the event is $8.00 per person and includes beer and chips.
Dinner will be available at the Cannstatter at prices similar to the DSB. If you care to drive, the
Cannstatter is located at 9130 Academy Road, Philadelphia.

KONVERSATIONSABEND
On February 12th, 2016 there is an excellent opportunity to converse entirely ‘Auf Deutsch’.
Come out and chat with others who enjoy speaking only in German. Several people have
expressed the interest of speaking German as they never hear much German spoken around the
club. So, here it is: 7:00 pm in the Library Room.

The Garden Committee
The garden committee is seeking five individuals willing to water and weed about four hours a
week; 2 hours at a time. We will make a schedule to accommodate your schedule. Mornings are
best for the plants. Winter cleaning is currently occurring. The beer garden planting will occur as
soon as the construction phase is complete.
We are also looking for someone who has an aerial photo of the property or some on who can
take an aerial photo of the property. The picture will be used to locate for our members what is in
flower and where it is located. We will have an outdoor display as a convenience to our members
and their guests.
We will need assistance to construct this plant information desk
A tree inventory of the property will be completed in 2016. An inventory will allow us to track the
condition of all trees, to maintain their health and to determine if removal and/or replacement is
necessary.
If you are willing to assist with any of these activities please contact Jim at
[email protected] or by cell phone at 815-474-7090.
