About WELC
Our small friendly school has been welcoming students to
Waterford since 1967. In that time we have learned that creating
the right environment is crucial for helping learners to reach their
goals. We want our learners to feel part of our school family and
the wider community. We facilitate this with personalized
support, small learning groups, passionate teaching staff and a
focus on linking classroom activities to life outside the school.
At WELC we care about each student. We understand how
important it is to create a comfortable and relaxed environment
within class. Every student should feel good about speaking and
learning from mistakes, having fun and meeting new people, all
in a respectful and joyful way. To allow this relaxed and intimate
atmosphere, our classes are small with on average 4 to 6
students (max. 8 students).
There is strong sense of community in the school and teachers,
administrative staff and students interact regularly and freely.

Junior English Courses
Welcome...
to Waterford English Language Centres (WELC)
For over fifty years we have welcomed young learners to the South-East of
Ireland. Today we offer a comprehensive range of “all-inclusive” junior
programmes for young learners of all ages (8 to 16 years).
Our greatest sense of achievement is
to be part of our young learners’
long-term growth and development.
We love to see our students graduate
from our junior summer or
immersion/camp programmes to then
becoming one of our full academic
year students. Some young learners
have also come back as adults in our
year round adult school!
We feel strongly that the earlier a
child is exposed to language learning
the better. We accept children from
as young as eight years old in our
Junior Summer Programmes.
We have also designed a number of
academic term programmes in
primary school for 8 -13 year olds and
are working on the launch of a new
English kiddies club for even younger
learners from 3 to 7 years of age.
Our range of summer programmes
are extremely popular and we have
achieved this by focusing on quality
and fun. We also specialise in High
School Programmes and have well
established partnerships with over
30 schools mainly in the South East
region of Ireland but also with some
of the top private institutions in the
country.
Referrals and recommendations
from past learners and their families
have been central to our growth
and success as a school.
Come and live the WELC
experience for yourself.

Host Families
A Warm Irish Welcome
With over 50 years’ experience arranging home-stays, we pride ourselves
on the quality of our families and relationship we have built with many of
our families over the years. Together our goal is to ensure that each
student is happy and that they have the best possible experience during
their stay.
Our host families are personally known by us. We visit and approve all
our host families to ensure the best possible homes for our students.
Our priority is to provide a safe and friendly home environment where
student feels at ease to practice their English and experience Irish life
first hand. All host families are also police vetted.
Young learners are assigned to host families with children of similar ages in
as far as possible. Students receive the same care and treatment as the
families own children, participating in all aspects of family life. Meals are
taken with their host family and students receive a packed lunch during
school/excursion days.
With only one language student of same nationality/language per family, this
allows the student to be immersed in the world through English language. For
summer programmes, bedrooms may be shared with a family member or with
another student of a different nationality or language. For High School
programmes, students are guaranteed their own room.
Our host families are located in Waterford and the surrounding areas either in
lovely residential estates or in the country-side. Transport of young learners
to/from school and activities is always taken care by host families at no cost to
the student. During the summer, WELC also operates its own transport to and
from school and activities.
Host families are fundamental part of success of our programme and often
our returning students request same families year after year.

making sure that it is as vibrant
and interesting as possible.
Our fully supervised social and
