BES is a neighborhood school that was founded in 2009
as a Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school in the
Steele Creek Community. BES met our expected growth
on the 2013 End-of-Grade Assessments, keeping pace
with state averages across the board. Our unique partnership with Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation
allows our facilities to include a full-size gymnasium and
stage, as well as a recreation office and multi-purpose room.
Our Students
BES has a current enrollment of 635 students and celebrates rich diversity with a demographic makeup of 45%
Black, 15% White, 25% Hispanic, 8% Asian and 7%
Multi-racial. We are 54% free and reduced lunch well
below the state requirement for a Title 1 school. In 2013,
our 3rd and 4th grade students outperformed the state
average on the Mathematics End-of-Grade Assessment.
Our Staff
Among the faculty, 36% hold advanced degrees, 41% have
more than 5 years experience and 25% have presented
professional development on a range of educational topics at
the district and state levels.
BES has 62 staff members broken into the following categories:
 3 Administrators, 2 Facilitators, 1 Counselor, 34
Grade Level Teachers, 4 Special Area Teachers, 5
EC/ESL Teachers, 1 TD Teacher, 6 Teacher
Assistants and 2 Secretaries
Our Programs
BES offers basketball, Dance Team, Student Council,
Girls on the Run, Engineering Club, Student Treasures
Book Publishing, Extended Day Support, in-house field
trip experiences, Community Activities and After-School
Programs
Our Culture
At BES we focus on a culture of responsiveness to instruction, where each child’s educational, behavioral and emotional needs can be met using a variety of resources and
supports. Our instructional culture is focused on datedriven decision making to ensure that each student meets
their individual growth goals. Our School-wide PBIS
plans provide incentives to encourage positive choices from
our students.
Our Parents
Volunteer through an active PTA, and School Leadership
Team– that supports our academic and community work.
