Coconut Milk Scarf

Beginners as well as advanced knitters will love this Coconut Milk Scarf. With little peek-a-boo
holes peaking out through the scarf, this easy knit scarf pattern is a fun and simple project to
work. If you're feeling extra artistic, you can add a splash of color to the end of the scarf and help
it stand out. An easy pattern to make with any colored yarn, this knit scarf is sure to be one
pattern that you find yourself coming back to again and again.
Materials:
2 skiens worsted weight yarn in white
1 skien worsted weight yarn in color of your choice
Needle Size: 13 / 9.00 mm
Instructions:
Hold 2 strands throughout.

Two Tone Cowl

This Two-Tone Cowl is perfect for using up those half skeins of yarn taking up space in your
craft bin. Match two of your favorite colors to create a bold accessory that you can wear all year
long. This knit cowl is great for beginners and makes a cute accessory for women of all ages.
Materials:
1 skein of white yarn
1 skein of teal yarn
Size 8 knitting needles
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Instructions:
Cast on 21 stitches.
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Knit.
Row 5: *Knit 2 together, yarn over*. Repeat from * * to last stitch. Knit last stitch.
Row 6: Knit.
Repeat row 1-6 42 more times.
If you’d like, switch to another color and repeat rows 1-6 15 more times…or you can just continue
with the first color for 15 more rows.
Bind off and weave in ends.

To make the scarf continual, you’ll need to sew the two ends together. I used the teal yarn and a
tapestry needle for this step. Join the two sides together so the wrong side is facing out. Then
simply weave the yarn through the first stitch on the white row and the first stitch on the teal row.
Continue working your way down the row until the scarf is knitted together. Weave in ends.

Diagonal Baktus Lace Scarf

Want to learn how to knit a scarf? Beginner patterns like the Diagonal Baktus Lace Scarf are
perfect for this very task.
Materials:
Yarn: TLC® Wiggles™, 100% Acrylic 3.5 oz (100 g) Approx. 250 yd (230 m), color: Peach
Needles: US 8 (6 mm)

The knitting starts with a provisional cast-on at the widest point of the triangular scarf and one half
of the scarf is knitted. Then the stitches from the provisional cast on are placed on the needle and
the other half of the scarf is knitted in the other direction.
Size:
64 inch x 11 inch (widest point)
165 cm x 28 cm
Instructions:
With a piece of waste yarn crochet a chain of 40 stitches.
With your needles and yarn pick 37 stitches from the “bumps” on the back of crocheted chain. Set
up the lacey pattern according to the 1st row on the scheme as follows: stitches 1 and 2 – once,
stitches 3 through 10 – 4 times, stitches 11-13 – once.
To continue, follow rows 3-18 of the scheme. Please note that the even rows are not shown, but it is
easy to “feel” them: if the stitch was knitted on the right side – it will be purled on wrong side. YOs
are purled.
Decreasing will naturally happen on the left side of your knitting - just remember that after row 18,
you will repeat stitches of the decrease (shown in gray, rows 7-18).
As you progress you will see that the number of pattern repeats will decrease.
Knit following the scheme until you have 10 stitches left, cast them off using any method you prefer.
Alternatively, you can knit all way to the point when you have only 2 stitches left - you will have a
pointy end.
Remove the crocheted waste yarn picking up stitches on your needle. Make sure that the first row is
to be knitted on the right side. Follow the set up row 1 on the scheme B: 1-3 are knitted once, 4-10 –
4 times, 11-12 are knitted once. You are set now to knit the second part of the shawl.

Materials:
Straight or circular needles size 10
Worsted weight yarn
Note:

Dimensions will vary, you can make it as long as you see fit. Multiple of 26 stitches.

You can adjust the size of your scarf; just keep adding in sets of 26 stitches to achieve the
desired width.
Instructions:
Cast on 26 stitches
Knit 5 rows in garter stitch at the beg and at the end of the scarf

Knit Scarflette

This beginner pattern is great for knitters who don't like working with cable needles. You can
easily work up this Knit Scarflette during a lazy weekend and have something fun and
fashionable to wear all year long. Made with a baby cable pattern, this mini scarflette is made
by knitting two stitches together, rather than using a cable needle.
Materials:
Pair of 10 or 11 sized needles
Yarn (I used Red Heart Gold yarn. It wasn’t a full skein, so you can easily make this with
leftover yarn)
Large Button
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Instructions:
Cast on 42 stitches. If you want it to be larger or smaller, cast on in multiples of 4 stitches, plus 2
extra stitches at the end.

Row 1: Knit 2, *Pearl 2, Knit 2; repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: Pearl 2, *Knit 2, Pearl 2; repeat from * to end of row.
Row 3: As row 1.
Row 4: Pearl 2, *Knit 2 stitches together, leaving on needles. Insert your right needle between the
two stitches you just knitted together and knit the first stitch on the left needle again. Then drop
both stitches off needle. Pearl 2; repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat Rows 1-4 until your scarflette is about 31 inches long. Bind off.
Sew your button on one corner of the right side of the work. I just used some extra yarn to attach
the button.

Braid or crochet a loop for the button. It should be about 5-6 inches long. Use a tapestry needle to
weave it into the scarf, tying it securely on the wrong side of the work.

2 balls Lily Sugar ’n Cream (Solids: 70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds) in Mod Green (C)
2 balls Lily Sugar ’n Cream (Solids: 70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds) in Mod Blue (D)
2 balls Lily Sugar ’n Cream (Solids: 70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds) in Robin's Egg (E)
Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Large eye blunt needle
Gauge: 19 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches [10 centimeters] in garter stitch.
Instructions:
Approximately 8 x 72 inches [20.5 x 183 centimeters].

Solid Square
Make 5 Solid Squares, 1 each in Contrast A, B, C, D and E.
Cast on 38 stitches.
1st row: (Wrong side). Knit.
2nd row: (Right side). Knit.
Repeat these 2 rows for garter stitch pattern. Continue in pattern as established until work from
beginning measures 8 inches [20.5 centimeters], ending with a Right side (2nd) row.
Cast off knitwise (Wrong side).
Weave in ends.
Make 4 Stripped Squares in the following color combinations:




1 using A as Contrast A and B as Contrast B.
1 using B as Contrast A and C as Contrast B.
1 using C as Contrast A and D as Contrast B.
1 using D as Contrast A and E as Contrast B.
Striped Square
To change colors, simply drop previous color and begin knitting with new color.
When joining a new color for the first time, leave a tail approximately 4 inches [10 centimeters] long
to ensure you are left with enough yarn to weave in your end.
When working narrow stripes as given below, do not cut your yarn when changing colors. Simply
allow the color not in use to be drawn up loosely along the side of your work.
With A, cast on 38 stitches.
1st row: (Wrong side). With A, knit.
Proceed in Stripe pattern as follows:




1st row: (Right side). With B, knit.
2nd row: With B, knit.
3rd row: With A, knit.
4th row: With A, knit.
(These 4 rows form Stripe pattern.)
Continue in pattern as established until work from beginning measures 8 inches [20.5 centimeters],
ending with a Right side (1st or 3rd) row.
With same color as previous row, cast off knitwise (Wrong side).
Weave in ends.
Finishing

Sew squares together using a fl at seam as shown in Diagram, noting striped squares will be placed
sideways.

Materials:
STITCH NATION by Debbie Stoller™ “Alpaca Love™”:
2 balls 3920 Ruby A, 1 ball 3101 Vanilla B.
Circular Knitting Needle: 5mm [US 8] 36”.
Yarn needle
Gauge: Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4” in ripple pattern.
Check your gauge: Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.
Instructions:
With A, cast on 272 sts.
Row 1: Knit.
Row 2: K1, purl across to last st, k1.

Row 3: K1, *[k2tog] 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, [k2tog] 3 times; repeat from * across to last st, k1.
Row 4: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1–4, changing color as in following color sequence: Work 8 more rows with A (for a
total of 12 A-colored rows), [4 rows with B, 4 rows with A] 2 times, 4 rows with B. Bind off.
Finishing:
Weave in ends. Steam block gently, if desired.
Notes:


The scarf is worked from long edge to long edge. Work back and forth on circular needle, as
if working on straight needles.
The stitch pattern creates ripples across the fabric. After several row repeats, 15 ripples
should be apparent.

Soft and Smoky Potato Chip Scarf

You’ve seen them all over the stores, but have you ever wondered how to knit a potato chip
scarf? It’s so easy! Free knit scarf patterns are perfect when it comes time to create your own
holiday gifts.
Materials:
Red Heart® Boutique™ Sashay™ (1 ball 1936 Waltz)
Knitting Needles: 5.5mm [US9]
Sewing needle
Matching sewing thread
Scarf measures 4” x 62” (6” X 38”). Directions are for 62” scarf; changes for 38” long scarf are in
parentheses. Gauge is not important for this project.
For longer scarf cast on 6 stitches; for a shorter scarf cast on 10 stitches.
Instructions:
1. Stretch one end of the Sashay open for several inches and lay it flat, placing the edge with
the metallic thread along the bottom. Notice that the Sashay yarn is a mesh of holes. You
will be working with the top of the mesh and leaving the metallic edge loose to form the

ruffle. You are using the top channel of holes as if it is yarn.
2. Beginning at the top right edge, insert tip of a knitting needle from back to front starting 4”
from end. Continue inserting needle 5 (9) more times. You now have 6 (10) cast on stitches.
Place this needle in left hand.
3. Pick up right hand needle and knit between the top two threads of the mesh rather than the
entire strand. Continue knitting these 6 (10) stitches on each row, always turning your work
in the same direction at end of rows. Put your work down and open up the mesh as you go.
4. Stop knitting when you have 1 yard left for binding off.
5. Bind off loosely, drawing the end of the Sashay through the last bound off stitch. Trim
leaving a 4”end. To finish the ends, fold under the corner and tack to inside with sewing
needle and thread.

Materials:
RED HEART® Boutique™ “Sashay™”: 1 ball 1937 Mambo A
RED HEART® “Soft”: 1 ball 4604 Navy B
Knitting needles: 5.5mm [US 9] circular needle, 29” long or longer
Yarn needle
Sewing needle
Matching thread
Instructions:
With A, cast on 143 sts, inserting needle into every other loop to put sts onto needle.

Rows 1-4: With B, k1, *p1, k1; repeat from * to end of row.
Rows 5 and 6: With A, knit to end of row.
Rows 7 and 8: With B, k1, *p1, k1; repeat from * to end of row.
Rows 9 and 10: With B, knit to end of row.
Bind off.
With yarn needle, weave in B ends. With sewing needle and thread, tack A ends to underside of
ruffles.

Bernat® Boa (100 g/3.5 oz; 130 m/142 yds) #00416 (Chick) 1 ball
Knitting Needles: Size 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Size: Approx 6 x 48 ins [15 x 122 cm].
Gauge: 14 sts and 17 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.
Instructions:
Cast on 21 sts.
Knit 4 rows (garter st).
Next row: (WS). K3. Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
Next row: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 47 ins [119.5 cm], ending with a WS row.

Knitting Needles: size 5 mm (U.S. 8) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Measurements: Approx 6 ins [15 cm] x 59 ins [150 cm].
Gauge: 16 sts and 32 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in garter st.
Instructions:
Cast on 2 sts.
1st row: (WS). K2.
2nd row: Inc 1 st in first st. K1. 3 sts.
3rd row: Knit.
4th row: Inc 1 st in first 2 sts. K1. 5 sts.
5th row: Knit.

Chain Stitch Scarf

Chain stitch creates a soft texture in this free scarf knitting pattern from Bernat Yarnss in
Bamboo yarn. Knit lengthwise on circular needles, the scarf is quick and easy. Use the chain
stitch technique on other projects.
Materials:
Yarn: Bernat Bamboo (60 g / 2.1 oz) 2 balls of #92425 (Rosehip)
Circular Knitting Needle: Size 6 mm (U.S. 10) 16 ins 40 cm long or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 14 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins 10 cm in stocking st.
Measurements: 5 x 50 ins 12.5 x 127 cm
Instructions:
Cast on 171 sts. Do not join in rnd. Working back and forth in rows, proceed as follows:
1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: *P1. Sl1P. Rep from * to last st. P1.
3rd row: K2. *Sl1. K1. Rep from * to last st. K1.

4th to 7th rows: Beg with a knit row, work in stocking st.
Rep 2nd to 7th rows for 5 ins [12.5 cm], then 2nd and 3rd rows once.
