LETTER TO OUR COMMUNITY
Dear Y Friends,
In order to accomplish something truly meaningful, it takes more than just one individual — everyone has to be in. And during 2012, our Y witnessed the
true power behind that statement through the positive impact we made both within and beyond the borders of Williamson County. It is quite amazing
what can happen when everyone works together.
For starters, each of our long-time branch locations in Cedar Park, Round Rock and Taylor as well as our Licensed Child Care department faced a variety
of challenges while attempting to serve their respective communities. From the overall economy to space constraints, retention and other issues, obstacles
were as present as ever in 2012. Even so, our staff and board members remained committed and pooled their efforts. The end result not only produced
new and exciting programs, but membership, program enrollment and retention began to rise and exceed expectations. Overall participation also climbed,
which meant that more children and families were taking part in the life-enriching programs and events that the Y has to offer.
That teamwork throughout our main facilities then began to spill over into other areas to help broaden the reach of the Y. In Hutto, our staff and board
continued to expand programming while working out of a temporary facility for another year in preparation for a full-size Y to be open in January 2014
through our partnership with the City of Hutto. Meanwhile, our staff’s outstanding efforts to run day camp during the summer of 2012 at the
Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center in Burnet opened the door for an agreement to have the Y to run that facility in the near future and serve
community beyond our county line. As if that were not enough, the construction of a new Sports Complex in Round Rock was underway, the expansion
of the Twin Lakes Family YMCA (including an indoor pool, teen center, cardio theater and group exercise room) was near complete and strides had been
made to bring overnight camping to YMCA Camp Twin Lakes with plans in the works for cabins and more.
While the above results are impressive on their own and are a testament to everyone’s commitment to working as a team in 2012, there was even more.
Looking to ensure the Y’s presence for future generations in Williamson County, an Endowment Fund was established through a generous gift from Nancy
and Nyle Maxwell. And with the need for financial assistance continuing to grow, the Y set a new goal by raising over $800,000 for its annual Strong Kids
Campaign to fund those scholarships that are sorely needed.
To say the least, our Y made some very meaningful accomplishments in 2012 to make sure that we were providing the very best in terms of youth
development, healthy living and social responsibility to the communities we serve. And none of this would have been possible unless everyone rolled up
their sleeves (as well as pants) and worked together for the common good. Without question, everyone was in for 2012 and the long haul.
Sincerely,
Jeff Andresen, President/CEO
David Hays, Chairman of the Board

Since the Rabb Family Natatorium opened back in 2009, the CHASCO Family YMCA has never
looked back with regard to growing and serving. People throughout the Round Rock community
made the Y a regular destination for not only swimming, but fitness, sports, child care and family
time. And 2012 continued this upward trend.

While the Child Watch and Aquatics departments continued to set new program attendance marks, the Fitness department kept pace by launching new programs, including TRX
and Y Start, that saw participation reach upwards of 1,800 people per week.
Not to be outdone, Youth and Adult Sports expanded their leagues while the
current Sports Complex on Mays Street underwent major renovations to provide
a quality venue for participants in 2013. Teens were also “all in” at
the Y last year as the new Teen Night Live program served over 2,000
teens during its inaugural run. And keeping with its family tradition, the
CHASCO Family YMCA managed to draw in excess of 7,000 people
combined between Halloween at the Y, Healthy Kids Day and the
Inspirational Luncheon.
With membership reaching new heights (over 21,000 people) and program
participation soaring by the end of 2012, it’s easy to see why everyone in
Round Rock has come to know and enjoy everything that the Y has to
offer for every member of the family.
HUTTO FAMILY YMCA

From the outset when discussions were held about establishing a Y in Hutto, Texas, everyone from
the City of Hutto to Hutto ISD to the entire Hutto community was on board. And the happenings
in 2012 made that even more clear.

For starters, the Y, in partnership with the city and the school district, continued its always
popular Friday Night Live program for teens and averaged 500 participants at that monthly event. The Hutto Family YMCA also began expanding programming through its temporary
location by offering additional fitness classes and youth programs. One of these
highly-anticipated and attended programs were Youth Sports Classes in Hutto,
which were made possible through a partnership with Hutto ISD. Additionally, the
Y attracted a large crowd by hosting its first-ever Healthy Kids Day in Hutto
during the month of April while anticipating the start of construction on a new
permanent facility, which was given a groundbreaking date of March 2013.
As the year came to a close, excitement throughout Hutto continued to
build as the journey to establish a full Y branch in this thriving Texas
community was reaching its end result. With the groundbreaking set and
an expected opening date of January 2014 announced, everyone began counting down the days.

the Taylor Family YMCA, community leaders and staff members banded together to provide the
services desperately needed and wanted by Taylor residents.

Addressing the obesity epidemic throughout our communities, the Taylor Family YMCA once again
teamed up with the United Way to offer the MEND Program for free in order to teach parents and
children about healthy living. The Y also ramped up its program offerings for teens and
adults by establishing Teen Road Trips, Club 6-7-8 and Adult Sports Leagues. And, with
the ever-growing need for financial assistance, the Taylor Family YMCA held its
first-ever Strong Kids Campaign Golf Tournament, which raised $4,900 for local
families in need. On top of all of that, membership in Taylor began to rise at the
end of 2012 to signal an increased desire for Y programs.
While the Y’s brick and mortar presence in Taylor became uncertain, the last year did cement the Y’s commitment to provide need services the
residents of Taylor for years to come. Everyone — from board members to staff to community members — made it clear through their actions and hard work that the Y will continue to be an integral part of the Taylor
community fabric. Whether it’s swimming, child care, sports, teens
programs or fitness, the Y will be there for Taylor.

Excitement was at an all-time high for everyone involved with the Twin Lakes Family YMCA in
2012. While the Y continued to be a hub of activity in Cedar Park as it has been for some time,
the last year witnessed membership and participation reaching entire new levels.

Programming in all departments from fitness to sports, child care and aquatics managed to serve approximately 15,000 people monthly through a combination of new and popular classes. Meanwhile, the branch board and staff completed their capital campaign to bring a new Indoor Pool, Group Exercise Facility and Teen Center to the Y by January 2013. With
construction underway on these new amenities, membership reached more than
18,000 people to set an all-time high for the facility. Additionally, through a
combination of hard work and quality programs, the Twin Lakes Family YMCA was able to maintain an impressive 62 percent membership retention rate in 2012 while also drawing more than 7,000 people combined to a number of special events, including the Cedar Park Fall Festival and Healthy Kids Day.
With the new Indoor Pool, Group Exercise Facility and Teen Center near ready by the end of 2012, the Twin Lakes Family YMCA was poised for great things in 2013 and beyond. While the Y has always packed them in, the last year made it clear that it’s the place everyone wants to be in
Cedar Park and its surrounding communities.
YMCA CAMP TWIN LAKES
204 E. Little Elm Trail in Cedar Park, Texas 512 250 9622
l
Serving large numbers of children, families and area businesses through outdoor adventure has
been a staple over the years at YMCA Camp Twin Lakes and 2012 was no different. In fact, camp
staff discovered new and exciting ways to engage even more people in the last year.

During school breaks, including summer, YMCA Camp Twin Lakes hosted more than 8,000
children combined through its Day Camp program in 2012. Camp staff also developed
Adult Volunteer and Junior Counselor Training programs to interest more people in the
camp experience through operations. In the fall and spring, YMCA Camp Twin Lakes
partnered with Round Rock ISD and welcomed in excess of 10,000 students
through I-CARE Programs, Teambuilding and End of Year Celebrations. As if all
of that were not impressive enough, camp staff also managed to raise
over $28,000 for the Y’s Strong Kids Campaign through its
G&R Power Drive 18 Golf Tournament.
With more and more people seeming to flock to this outdoor adventure
oasis in 2012, there seems to be no slowing down for YMCA Camp Twin
Lakes. The fun had and memories made at day camp, family events or
group outings not only continues to bring people back, but word is
spreading throughout the county as to why everyone needs to be a
part of what’s going on at YMCA Camp Twin Lakes.
Y LICENSED CHILD CARE
1812 N. Mays Street in Round Rock, Texas 512 615 5563
l
When it comes to finding a place for kids to be safe, learn and have fun during school breaks or
after school, parents around Williamson County have regularly turned to Y Licensed Child Care.
And in 2012, families throughout the county seemed to trust and depend on them even more.
Regarding after school care, the Y not only served 8,245 children through its Y Afterschool
program over the last year, but that total was on the rise by the end of 2012. Meanwhile,
during Winter and Spring Breaks, the Y hosted large numbers of children at its day camps
prior taking care of 1,441 campers throughout the summer. In fact, Y Licensed Child Care
established a partnership with the Pflugerville Parks & Recreation Department to
offer a summer camp site in Pflugerville, Texas, while also managing to operate
the first-ever Y Summer Day Camp in Burnet, Texas. While both camps were
extremely successful and popular, Burnet’s camp more than doubled its
attendance from 2011 through the Y’s efforts.
With the demand for child care never on the decline, the Y Licensed Child Care Department seems to not only be meeting that need but exceeding
expectations as evidenced by its efforts in 2012. There was no doubting that program participation reached new heights in the last year and that only happens when every staff member chips in to provide a quality child care experience where children can learn, grow and thrive.
