WESTNEY HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH
WESTNEY’S ACTIVE MEN
The Goals of
Men’s Ministry
At Westney Heights, we take the
task of ministering to men seriously.
We have built a program that is
being readied for 2013 that takes
aim at four important goals:
1. To equip men to both study the
Bible and teach it’s truths to
their families.
2. To allow experienced, faithful
men to invest their life story in
younger men.
3. To allow men to be better
husbands and fathers by
providing practical skills and
information.
4. To encourage regular,
communal, small-group Bible
study among men.
Men Matter
In God’s economy, no one
demographic is more important than
another. Men are not more or less
important than women, young are not
more or less important than old, rich
are not more or less important than
poor. We are all co-heirs together in
Christ.
It is true, however, that our society has
seen a dramatic (and disastrous)
decline in the enthusiasm with which
men embrace and fulfill their God
given roles as provider, protector,
teacher and leader in their own
homes.
At Westney Heights we want to give
men every opportunity to know,
understand and embrace their
responsibilities and be equipped to
fulfill them. It is our hope and prayer
that our men will find the four planks
of our 2013 Men’s Ministry to be both
encouraging and helpful.

MEN’S SMALL GROUPS AT WHBC
The “National Fatherhood Initiative” has examined

I’m excited to announce that in 2013 we will be offering an
exciting opportunity for our men to own the world’s most
powerful Bible Study program: Logos Bible Software.
Each man in this ministry will receive a copy of Logos (the
“Bible Study” collection) and a subscription to the Faithlife
Study Bible.
Our group will have eight meetings in 2013, with each
meeting lasting 2 hours. Members are expected to attend
every meeting. During those 2 hours we will:
-spend 30 minutes learning to use Logos.
- spend 30 minutes using Logos to actually do a Bible
Study together on a foundational truth of the Christian
faith.
- spend 30 minutes reviewing lesson plans prepared
by Pastor Don for your children, teenagers and wife to
equip you to teach this truth to our family.
- spend 30 minutes getting to know one another.

If that sounds like a combination that interests
you, let me be the first to invite you to our
“Beast Feast”. It’s a banquet for hungry
carnivorous men who want to have fun, get to
know one another and to hear a thoughtful
message.
We plan on having this banquet once or twice per
year. Each time we’ll have a different speaker,
but the same topic. The title of every talk will be
“The top five things I’ve learned in life so far are...”
It will be fascinating to hear the similarities and
contrasts from wise Christian men who are on
their way to “finishing well”.
Our first banquet is on January 19, 2013 and the
speaker will be a man I deeply love and highly
esteem ... Pastor Jack Hannah.
Sign up details will follow later, but please mark this on your
calendar...you don’t want to miss it!

GROWING
SKILLS
Man Skills
Job: Minister of Music
& Adult Ministries,
WHBC
Age: 51
Passion: Every job has a
“required skill set”. Why
would we think that being a
Godly man is any different?
I’m passionate about leading
people to worship Christ
and to love and serve Him. We spread that passion by
giving Westney men the
opportunity to develop the
skills that will make them
more effective examples for
Christ in their homes...and
in their lives! HAVE YOU EVER HAD A “THEY DIDN’T TEACH ME THIS
IN SCHOOL” MOMENT?
A lot of men know more about Toronto traffic than how to
change the oil in their car. We often know more about the
local sports team stats than we do about how do do simple
home repairs.
Why is that?
Our Men’s Breakfasts will focus on delivering skills that will
make you a better dad, husband and man. Of course we’ll
start our time together with a delicious man-breakfast, but
then we’ll listen to a qualified speaker on some topic that is
sure to come up in your career as a Godly man.
Right now we’re working on: Basic car care,
simple home repairs, how to develop a family
budget (c'mon impress your wife for a change!),
dealing with teenagers, resolving family conflicts,
how to change a lightbulb without electrocution,
building and practicing a family evacuation plan
in case of fire, how to monitor internet use in your
home and many other helpful topics.
