VETTE GAZETTE SUBMISSION INFORMATION
To submit information for publication in the May/Jun 2011 issue of the Vette Gazette, please
submit your information to the Gazette Editor , no later than Apr 13th.
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Well, I noticed some of us have had our Corvettes out for a test run
already this year. The weather finally broke and we got some clear skies
and sunshine in the midst of all this cold and ice. Winter’s not over yet,
but Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow, so according to Phil
“Spring is just around the corner”. Route 66 is also just around the
corner, so let’s get shined up and ready to go. In the next few weeks we
will have additional excursions and activities lined up for us. Watch the
Web Site and the Vette Gazette for event updates.
We are always looking for new ideas for trips or other event, if you have
something we haven’t done before, or something we have done in the
past that you liked and would like to do it again, please contact our
Events Chair, Larry Ricketts with your suggestions.
If you have any comments or concerns I will be happy to discuss them
with you.
Looking forward to a fun and enjoyable 2011.

In 2010 the Western States Corvette Council (WSCC) recognized its
45th year. Having organized in 1965 and incorporated in 1968 the
Council is now comprised of 28 full voting member Corvette clubs and an
additional 12 Associate or non-voting clubs from 7 western states. Our
Corvette Club of Utah (CCU) has been a member of WSCC since 2005
as an Associate non-voting club.
Western States Corvette Council was formed to serve as a link for, and
to assist Corvette clubs throughout the west in inter-communication,
cooperation, interclub events and to promote the image and to direct
public attention toward America’s only true sports car the Corvette.
WSCC hosts many competitive and social events such as multi-club Car
Shows, Corvette Rallies, Autocross, Drag Racing and an annual wizbang Convention. The Council is also a liaison for member clubs with
General Motors and the National Corvette Museum.
Membership in the Council is really an individual matter. Any CCU
member can enroll with WSCC. Membership is annual with a renewal
each year. Individual membership entitles the member to participate in
and stay in touch with the numerous events throughout the year. This
past year, CCU members attended their second WSCC Convention.
This past May was the second year that the 4 day event was held in Las
Vegas. We had a fine time and got to rub elbows with Corvette club
members from dozens of clubs like ours. In addition to partaking of the
various events WSCC members receive the quarterly REDLINE
magazine. In it are messages and updates from the Council’s Board of
Directors and highlights of the WSCC sanctioned events that have taken
place most recently. The magazine contains tech tips for Corvette
owners along with photographs and descriptions of Rallies, car shows,
socials and competitive events. Our club’s affiliation with WSCC was a
factor in the National Corvette Museum’s recognition of our club’s 3rd
place national web site award in 2010.
If our Corvette Club of Utah can enroll 51% of our members in WSCC we
will be eligible for full voting club status with the Council. You can view
the online version of the REDLINE magazine and get an overview of all
the activities and benefits of WSCC by going to their website,
http://www.wscc.ws While there you can also print out an application for
membership. Dues are initially $41.00 per year with renewal of $35.00.
9
As your WSCC representative for CCU I will always have membership
applications with me at the CCU meetings and most events. Feel free to
contact me with any questions you might have regarding the Western
States Corvette Council and join with me and the other CCU/WSCC
members for the fun and camaraderie.

WEAR YOUR CCU NAME BADGE
We have lots of new members in the club. The only way they will be
able to remember your name is if you wear your CCU name badge. To
encourage you, only members wearing naming tags will get raffle tickets
for the Membership Meeting door prizes. Come on, dig out those
badges.

Sales presentations at any of our membership meetings from any
business or organization other than our sponsor must be approved at the
Officer’s Meeting the month prior. Please, no exceptions.

five hundred dollars ($500.00) by two-third (2/3) majority vote of the
officers, (b) any expenditure exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00)

NOT HEARING ABOUT UPCOMING EVENTS
We try to keep you informed with the Gazette, the CCU Website, and email reminders. If you want to receive e-mail updates on events,
changes to the schedule (and that does happen), you need to let us
know your current e-mail address. If you change your e-mail address,
you need to tell us or you won’t get CCU e-mail.
POP-UP SOCIALS
Tired of eating at home and need to get out of the house. Come join us
for the pop-up socials. Members of the club gather at a different place to
11
eat dinner and socialize. No pressure, no points, just fun. Check the

We had a great time getting together for the game. Amber Gaylor
brought Packer and Steelers labels so you could identify which team you
were supporting. Dennis and Deaun Dye gave out some nifty door
prizes from their business. The weather was even good enough that
some drove their Corvette. We had plenty of food, good company, and a
great game. What else could you ask for.
FEBRUARY BIRTHDAY BREAKFAST
The February Birthday Breakfast was held on Saturday, Feb 12th at the

of us brought our Corvette's. It was great getting them out of the garage.

H Miller Chevrolet. Dave announced the Ogden-Weber Vocational
College had invited the Corvette Club to put on a car show from 4:00PM

for participating in this show. Dave asked the membership to consider if
they would like to change the door prizes for the membership meeting.
He asked members to think about it and come prepared to discuss their
ideas at the next membership meeting. Kim Riley presented the club
budget for 2011. It was approved unanimously by the members present.
Ron Probert presented some information about club racing at the Miller
Motor Sports Park. A representative will be present at the next

interested club members up for track days. Ned Anderson expressed

the canyons, but we will look around and the head home via I-70. We
will be back home early evening on Sunday Night.

5TH NATIONAL CORVETTE CARAVAN - SEPT 2014
From now till Sept 2014 you will start seeing articles about the Corvette
Caravan. What is the Corvette Caravan? Corvette Owners and Clubs
from around the world cruise back to the Corvette Museum in Bowling
Green, Kentucky in celebration of the only American Sports Car.
Information, including the header above, is preliminary as the event is
being planned. This will be Caravan 14 and the 20th Anniversary
Celebration. What can you expect? We expect to be part of the
Northern California Caravan. On the Sunday before the Labor Day
Weekend, Corvette's from Northern California and Oregon will visit Utah
as an overnight stop. The Corvette Club of Utah will probably host some
type of reception or event for them. On Monday morning, CCU will join
the Caravan as it departs Utah for the Museum. Traditionally, the route
follows I-70 to St Louis with stops in Denver, Co; Topeka, Ka; and
somewhere around Evansville, ID. On Thursday Morning, the entire
Northern California, Utah, Oregon, Washington, and other state caravans
join together for a police escorted run to the Museum. Each caravan has
a prescribed time to arrive at the museum and are announced as they
pass around the museum.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday start the 20th Anniversary Celebration with
tours of the Corvette Factory, local area, and a concert at the museum.
In the past, you have been on your own getting home. For this caravan,
I'm proposing a Route 66 return home with a Sunday departure for
Chicago to start the adventure which will end on the following Sunday at
Santa Monica Pier in California.
To prepare for this once in a lifetime adventure, watch the Gazette and
the Website for articles on things to be done as we get closer to the day
of the event. Start planning now and reserve the dates on your calendar.
