2009 Yearbook
CELEB
RATING 20 YEARS
Honda congratulates the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Class of 2009. Your achievements during this 20th annual competition are a testament to your
academic preparation, mental prowess and grace under pressure.
50 years ago, a small motorcycle company began its American operations, and
American Honda was born. 20 years ago, Honda joined with America’s Historically
Black Colleges and Universities and Honda Campus All-Star Challenge became
a yearly gathering of the nation’s best and brightest.
HCASC has created traditions, rivalries have flourished, and each year the
competition has renewed itself with greater enthusiasm. Tens of thousands of
students, faculty and staff have joined the HCASC family under the theme of
making “Friends for Life.”
As you look through these pages, it is hoped that the pictures evoke fond
memories and provide a basis to expand new and existing friendships. More
than anything, that is the legacy of the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge. Enjoy
this yearbook, and best of luck in your future endeavors.

History in the Making:
The Story of the
Honda Campus
All-Star Challenge
In 1989, Honda established the
Honda Campus All-Star Challenge as
a way to showcase and recognize the
academic talents of students at America’s
Historically Black Colleges and Universities
(HBCUs).
The program starts in the fall at
dozens of institutions across the country.
An on-campus tournament is followed
by weekly practices and study sessions.
Later, schools prepare for the national
championship by attending up to two
intercollegiate tournaments.
Every spring, students, coaches,
campus coordinators, volunteers, and
HBCU presidents, gather to witness
the competition for the title of National
Champion.
Over the past 20 years, more than
50,000 HBCU students have participated
in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge,
and Honda has committed millions
of dollars in grants and support to the
program. These grants have enhanced
student programs and the students’ college
experience.
HCASC alumni have gone on to
careers in science, medicine, aeronautics,
industry and government. Many graduates
are still active in HCASC through campus
activities and team training.
Today, HCASC remains the first and
only academic competition of its kind, and
its alumni continue to contribute to their
alma maters and their communities.
Oakwood invited their scrimmage partners from Alabama
A&M to join them onstage at the awards ceremony.

PLAYER ALUMNI HAll of Fame
The Honda Campus All-Star
Challenge Player Alumni Hall
of Fame was established to
acknowledge former HCASC
players who have succeeded in
their chosen career and life paths
and to facilitate their becoming
mentors for the current generation
of HCASC players.
In 2004, the first five player alumni were honored. Since then,
13 more player alumni have been inducted. These former
players represent the excellence that comes from studying hard,
networking, applying oneself and most of all, from pursuing a life
goal with all your intellect, heart and soul.

to fair play, ethical behavior and
integrity. It best exemplifies the
values of team spirit, camaraderie,
and good sportsmanship along with
academic focus.

to opponents as well. Her willingness to offer encouragement
to others, keen sense of humor and good-natured personality
distinguished her.
Hailing from Baltimore, Gennifer is a Human Services major from
