Introduction
The seal water unit is independent pumping system designed to furnish clean water for lubrication of the mechanical seal or packing
box area of pumping equipment. The system can furnish one or multiple pumps. The clean water is supplied to the pump seal or
packing at a pressure which exceeds the internal pressure of the pump. This applied water pressure keeps the seal or packing area
free of the pump abrasives such as grit or sand. Seal water systems are typically applied to pumps, which are abrasive or corrosive
materials. Seal water systems are recommended on all sewage pumps to keep packing and seal maintenance to a minimum.

Determine the capacity as required by pump manufacture to be supplied to the mechanical seal or stuffing box (typically
2-4 gallons per minute). Multiply this number by the number of pumps being furnished.
Determine the maximum discharge pressure of the pumps which are being supplied seal water.
Furnish Sydnor with maximum discharge pressure and desired flow rate for pump selection.
