BCAP Buzz The newsletter of the BCAP Fund P.O. Box 470065, Tulsa, OK 74147 | www.bcap fund.org | [email protected] | 918.637.8627 Welcome Words Hello again! The last time we visited it was at the close of a very busy October and we were making detailed plans to open 2014 in a strong position. Well, here it is Springtime 2014, and I am happy to report to you on the status of Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP) Fund. From our founder BCAP’s mission is to financially assist Breast Cancer Patients in the greater Tulsa area in their journey to recovery. In February, we held our popular “Bunco for Breast Cancer” event and again it was very successful. We had record attendance and support from many corporate sponsors, with matching funds again supplied by the Daylight Masonic Lodge #542. Our calendar of events continues to grow with the second annual 918 Construction’s Million Dollar Shootout Golf Tournament on May 16. The summer events continue with a fundraising event planned for June to mark one of our patients’ one-year cancer-free date and a breast health awareness night with The Athletics, Tulsa’s professional soccer team on June 14. Watch for other upcoming events “Pink Carpet Survivor Brunch and Fashion Show” August 9 at Renaissance Hotel & Convention Center and 101 Wild West Rodeo “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” night in Ponca City. The summer will end with a concert hosted by Mistresses of Mayhem and Tulsa Shock’s breast health awareness night. Watch our website, www.bcapfund.org, for details of these and other exciting events. On the planning front, I am pleased to tell you that we are putting the finishing touches on our marketing plan. This plan, along with our newly completed strategic 5-year plan, will allow us to strengthen our position within the other 16 counties which we have begun to serve. These plans will guide us as we increase our planned patient-served count and strengthen our revenue sources to offset this increase. To support our planned growth, not only in number of patients served and revenue growth, but in name recognition as well, we have already translated our BCAP brochure into Spanish and will be distributing it very soon. Look for a new version of our patient application form to be released in Spanish! We continue to be excited by the recognition BCAP receives and the reach of our patients. BCAP remains a blessing in my life and your continued support will allow us to touch countless families with financial needs allowing them to focus on their journey to recovery. -Angie Walters BCAP Founder & CEO BCAP Buzz Volume 14-1 April 2014 1 BCAP Christmas Baskets In the days just before Christmas, several board members and volunteers gathered at Crafton Tull to assemble baskets for our 2013 BCAP recipients. We delivered twenty seven baskets this year which included food, toiletries, gifts, and toys for children. BCAP received several monetary donations, that were given and earmarked for the baskets. We would like to thank Walmart and Crafton Tull for monetary donations. Additionally, we had several individuals who donated funds for our baskets. Turkey roasts were donated for each of our baskets, and Crafton Tull allowed us to use their facility to assemble the baskets. We had about 20 volunteers to assemble and/ or deliver baskets. It was a joy to see the looks on the faces of the recipients. “ We have been truly blessed this year by your wonderful team of loving and caring people. We can’t thank you enough for the beautiful Christmas basket full of goodies. We were so thrilled and it was very helpful. “ Oh my goodness! Thank you for the wonderful basket! It was beautiful and we didn’t have anything planned for Christmas this year. Appreciate you all so much! “ The basket & gifts were so wonderful. Record attendance made for another successful Bunco for Breast Cancer night! 88 players tried their luck at the game, held at the Union Collegiate Academy, and over $14,000 was raised thanks to Daylight Masonic Lodge #542 matching our funds and our corporate sponsors: Industrial Consultants, Arvest Bank, Helmerich & Payne, Inc., Reasors on 41st St., Rib Crib, and Chinowth & Cohen Realtors. The event also brought both smiles and tears to the audience as BCAP patients Carmen Bradford and Bobbie Jo Sparks shared their heartfelt stories of strength and determination. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, sponsored and to our Board of Directors for their hard work and planning behind the scenes.
