As such the Series 5000 benefits from more than three decades of experience in providing cost effective and easily maintained high valued quality valves in industries where consistently punishing environments have ensured a design to give rugged reliability. A wide range of construction materials offers a choice to suit the specific application, while the smooth body flow path reduces turbulence, minimising the effects of erosion and noise. The quick-change trim option provides for easily accessible seat and trim components to minimise fitting and parts replacement times. Stem guided contoured trim in both balanced and unbalanced configuration gives excellent rigidity and resistance to vibration and service wear. The valve is designed to accommodate other products within the Severn Glocon range e.g. MLT (multi-labyrinth trim), C.C (concentric cages) low noise, and anti-cavitation trims. End connection Sizes/Types 1/2in (12mm) - 36in (900mm). Integral or Separable Flanges, Screwed Butt or Socket weld ends. For other consult factory. Design Standard Fig.2. Body Face to Face Dimensions Paint ANSI/ISA 75.08 up to 10 inch and class 600 12 inch and above as per Severn Glocon standard A wide range of paint finishes are available including enamel, alkyd gloss and various epoxy finishes. Clean Build Standard Bonnet Packing Severn Glocon maintains high clean build standardsutilising clean build areas including Oxygen clean and a Ultra High Purity clean room. Page 4 Materials of Construction Actuation Various types of actuation are available including:Series P Linear spring pneumatic cylinder, Series N Numotor pneumatic piston, Series W Diaphragm-spring pneumatic actuator. In addition electric, hydraulic, electro hydraulic actuators and manually operated versions are available. Instruments A wide range of control instruments are available from Sever Glocon including:Positioners, Air-filter Regulators, Volume Boosters, Solenoid Valves, and Lock-up Valves. Valve Body Style Option The Severn Glocon Series 5000 valve is available in three basic body styles of either Globe, Angle or 3way. Many parts are interchangeable, with the exception of the valve bodies. Cryogenic Bonnet Bonnet Option Usually constructed in the same material as the valve body, selection of the bonnet design is undertaken on the basis of both the operating temperature range and the fluid media handled. A temperature range of - 190° C to 580° C is achievable. For hazardous/lethal media a bellows seal bonnet is recommended. Standard Bonnet Bellows Seal Bonnet The standard bonnet enables the forming of a deep packing box together with a long guide housing, thereby providing a robust and vibration resistant assembly. Teflon rings are the standard packing upto 250° C. Provides for a positive metallic gland seal, within the rated pressure and temperature of the bellows material selected. Used on hazardous/lethal service. An auxiliary packing box in the upper bonnet serves as a back-up seal in the unlikely event of a bellows failure. Normalising Bonnet Cryogenic Bonnet Protects the packing from excessive heat or cold, which may adversely affect valve or packing performance. Application temperature range depends upon the valve and bonnet construction materials. Permits stagnated moderate temperature gas to form within the bonnet. This then protects the packing from the extremes of temperature produced by the line fluid. Normally constructed in stainless steel it operates to - 196° C. CC Cage Trim Severe Service Duties Single/Multiple Concentric Cage (C.C) trims are available for higher pressure drop applications to prevent the onset of cavitation and to reduce noise levels. MLT (Multi-labyrinth trim) are also available for the most severe service. Page 6 Flow coefficients Cv The Cv values detailed in the tables are at the maximum rated travel and states in US units. The figures by definition are related to the flow of water (Specific gravity =1) in US Gallons per minute with a pressure drop 1 PSI. The Cv values mentioned below are nominal. Please consult with factory for process Cv over 80% of the rated Cv. Table 1: Trickle Trims Note: For valve and Trim sizes outside this range - Consult factory Page 7 Noise and Cavitation Control As fluid passes through a restriction (normally the trim in a valve), a pressure reduction and subsequent velocity increase takes place. Immediately after the restriction, the point of lowest pressure and highest velocity is called the “vena contracta”. After which pressure recovery takes place together with a reduction in fluid velocity. The amount the fluid recovers has a great influence on the valve trim design. Fig.16. Explanation of Cavitation control using Multistage low recovery trim For liquids, if the pressure at the vena contracta goes below the liquid’s vapour pressure - bubbles are formed. If the subsequent pressure recovery to P2 (downstream pressure) exceeds the fluid’s vapour pressure - the vapour bubble collapse or implode - this is called “Cavitation”. This can occur within the valve or in the downstream pipe work. The energy dissipated can cause extensive damage to valve and pipe work. If the pressure recovery stays below the fluid’s vapour pressure then “Flashing” occurs. Multi-stage pressure let down / “Anti-cavitation” valve trim designs enable the required pressure drop across the valve to be achieved in a number of stages as illustrated in Fig.16. The velocity of the fluid through the valve has a major influence on the erosive effect of the fluid on the valve body and trim thus the control of fluid velocity and the appropriate selection of materials is critical to the valve performance and service life. Higher fluid velocities, particularly in gas service, can generate noise in the valve and pipe work - thus velocity control is major factor in containing noise emissions within acceptable limits (normally <85 dBA). Severn Glocon’s valve trim designs, engineered for a specific application, may include a combination of: u Multi-stage pressure reduction stages, u Tortuous paths - as the fluid changes direction energy is dissipated, u Flow impingement of one flow path onto another also causes energy loss, Severn Glocon can provide a trim solution having considered the process control conditions, preferred flow direction as well as initial and life cycle costs as well as application experience.
