In the Name of God New and Advanced Materials International Congress (NAMIC 2012) May 30-31, 2012 Majlesi Branch, Islamic Azad University Isfahan-Iran ABSTRACTS Editor: Professor S.K. Sadrnezhaad Welcome Message Thank God to provide the opportunity for me to be the host of you scientists, professors, artisans, students, and researchers. Today the potentials of Azad University Complex have reached a state to be able to act as the host for large scale scientific international conferences. And the Islamic Azad University of Majlesi is not an exception in this regard. Therefore, in recent years, by improving and strengthening its scientific and research dimensions in technical engineering fields, it has been able to be introduced as one of the scientific poles of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The present conference which is the first international one held is a place to introduce the latest findings of foreign and national researches on material engineering and metallurgy in the field of new materials (nano, bio, magnetic, …). Undoubtedly the outcomes of this conference can dramatically improve the national and international level of knowledge in its area. Hopefully at the end of this two- day conference, we shall witness the positive impacts of this scientific event. In the end, I would like to appreciate the supporters of the conference and all my colleagues’ inexhaustible efforts in Majlesi Azad University each of which had an important role to hold this scientific gathering. Mohammadhasan Gheisarian Chancellor, Majlesi Branch, Islamic Azad University, Iran Foreword The objective of NAMIC 2012 is to provide a platform for academicians, researchers and technical experts to exchange views, findings, ideas and experiences for assessment of the state of the art and the future needs of the modern society to the substances classifiable as nano, bio, smart, foamy, porous, functional, composite, amorphous, precious, magnetic, thin layer, super-conducting and semiconducting materials. These substances are to help the human race by serving in many different applications like nanosensors, NEMs, MEMs, nanocatalysts, nanoelectronic materials, expert systems, intelligent structures, energy conservation, environmental protection, fuel cell, solar cell, optoelectronic devices and bioengineering systems. The focus of the congress is on correlation of reactivity, durability, functionality, stability, strength and feasibility to molecular structure and morphology. R. Abbasi (1)A. Emamikhah (2) [email protected] Abstract : Recently some investigations have been performed in the field of ultrasonic technology for improving the nano surface characteristic. Ultrasonic Cold Forging Technology (UCFT) is a sever plastic deformation which accomplishes with nano structure of surface layers by HallPetch theory and ultrasonic technique that increases mechanical properties of the materials. At this technology according to Hall-Petch theory both toughness and hardness will augment simultaneously with sever plastic deformation, then will contribute to nanostructure of surface layers and increase the metal strength. At this study, basic principle of UCFT and related experiences on steel were taken into account in view of previous setup and research. Consequences indicated the rising in tensile strength, hardness surface improvement and reduction in surface roughness and friction coefficient. Aforesaid technology has low energy consumption and without any limitation in part dimensions can be a replacement of heat surface treatment. Jamebozorg (1)K. Zangene-madar (2)M. Mirjani (3)Sh. Seyydin (4) [email protected] Abstract : Anodic oxide layers were produced on Ti–6Al–4V substrates using aqueous electrolytes containing dissolved calcium and phosphorus. Anodizing treatment was carried out at different times (45-135 min) and voltages (30-90 V). Different oxide layers were produced by varying the voltage and time anodizing. Thickness, surface roughness, surface morphology and chemical composition of oxide layer were investigated. To evaluate the biocompatibility of the oxide layers, electrochemical polarization test in Ringer`s solution was performed. Structure of the layers was studied by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopic. It is found that the thickness and surface morphology strongly is a function of voltage and time anodizing. Increasing the voltage up to 60 volts, resulting to smaller pores up to 2μm, and it decreases the roughness. In general, increase in voltage decrease the roughness up to . μm. The best biocompatibility properties are obtained under V and min. Akhavan (1)A. Tahvilian (2)A. Saghayannejad (3)M. Toroghinejad (4) [email protected] Abstract : Accumulative roll bonding (ARB) is a severe plastic deformation process for achieving ultra-fine grains in metallic sheets without changing the sample dimensions. A high-purity Al( ) alloy and a Al-Mg( ) alloy were ARB process up to cycles at ambient temperature to generate sheet composite material consisting of alternating layers of Al and AlMg. Sample properties were studied by employing hardness measurements, tensile test, SEM and TEM characterizations. The deformation structure within these layers consisted of lamellar bands aligned parallel to the rolling direction. With increasing the strain, mean spacing of lamellar boundaries decreased. Finally, continuous recrystallization resulted in a microstructure covered with small recrystallized grains with an average diameter below nm at the end of four cycle. The tensile strength and hardness of the cycle ARB processed composite sheet increased about times of the initial Al alloy values and about five times of the initial Al alloy values, respectively. Fracture surfaces observations showed that failure mode in ARB processed composite is shear ductile rupture with elongated small dimples. The characteristic structure of mullite allows its grain to grow anisotropically if the grain growth takes place without any external constraint. The conventional techniques for synthesis of these elongated mullite grains are vapor- solid synthesis and in situ processing technique. Because of disadvantages of these techniques researchers tried to develop an alternative technique to produce mullite whiskers by mechanical activation of mixed oxide precursors. Also, some oxide additives decrease the temperature of mullite phase formation from starting materials. So in this paper it is tried to explain the enhancement in mullite formation in mechanoactivated starting materials doped with additives. As feed for dual procedure, Au and Cu monometallic nanoparticles colloids were achieved based on a laser ablation technique. To perform this, bulk targets were ablated with nm wavelength Nd:YAG laser in a pure acetone ( %) medium. Ultra violet-Visible optical absorption spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence were used to characterize the nanoparticles. Considering their improved mechanical properties, formation of nanostructure intermetallic compounds has received special attention. Ni-Ti-Al intermetallic compounds have significant importance given their high strength, thermal resistance and corrosion resistance. Mechanical alloying followed by appropriate heat treatment to produce nanostructure intermetallic compounds is being widely used nowadays. This study aimed at investigating the effect of ball mill time and the heat treatment after it on the formation of nanostructure intermetallic compounds in Ni -Ti Al system. To do so, the Ni Ti Al mixed powder was prepared and milled in a planetary ball mill at different times. Products were evaluated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Upon milling for hour, Ni Al nanostructure intermetallic compound was formed. The mixed powder was obtained after hours milling was annealed. Results obtained after heat treatment suggest the formation of ternary system of intermetallic compounds such as Ni (Ti,Al) and Ni TiAl as well as binary compounds. Given the formation of Ni-Ti-Al nanostructure system with desirable properties and considering the simplicity and low cost of the process, mechanical alloying and heat treatment can also be used to produce other intermetallic compounds. A. Ayati Najafabadi (1)H. Keshvari (2)Y. Ganji (3) [email protected] Abstract : The aim of this study is to design and fabricate an artificial skin dress for the purpose of skin healing. A multilayer skin dressing included castor oil-based polyurethane synthesized as the outer layer and two biopolymeric layers of heparin and chitosan as the inner layers were fabricated. The surface of polyurethane was activated using two steps oxygen radio frequency (RF) plasma. The surface of the modified PU films characterized by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, and water drop contact angle measurements. The ATR-FTIR spectrogram of the modified films showed new characteristic peaks of PU. Also, heparin and chitosan were successfully immobilized on PU films. In vitro cell culture study on the chitosan/heparin immobilized PU and poly (acrylic acid)-grafted PU films showed compatibility of modified surfaces as well as virgin film with L fibroblast cells. Cell adhesion and proliferation of cells on the chitosan/heparin immobilized surfaces showed better behavior compared with poly (acrylic acid)-grafted PU. Metal matrix composites first as a unique technology appeared that military systems need to their performance and the primary motivation for the development of materials were created. One of the most important parameters in the study of metal matrix composites contact surface formed is between the matrix and the ceramic reinforcement. Because this area is determining power and resistance to cracking in the composites during deformation. Now that this principle to form a strong bond between ceramic and wetting metal is necessary, is accepted completely. Also all chemical reactions are also possible, be controlled. In this study, The damping properties of aluminum matrix composites reinforced with coated continuous carbon fibers were studied. The experimental results show that a CVD carbon coating on the surface of T300 carbon fibers greatly improves the overall damping capacity of Cf/Al composites. Coating of carbon fibers have been used by K2zrf6 so it creates more favorable properties. Fibers from 10 seconds to 1 minute we tested. Pure aluminuim at 800˚C was melted and coated fibers pass through the molten. The best properties of composite was achieved at the optimum condition the heating temperture fiber of 70˚C, maintaining time fiber: 3hr , melting temperature of aluminium 800˚C . Dehnavi (1)B. Luan (2)X.Y. Liu (3)S. Rohani (4) D. W. Shoesmith (5) [email protected] Abstract : Plasma electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) is a novel technique to create ceramic coatings on light weight metals particularly aluminum and magnesium alloys. PEO is a simple, high efficiency and eco-friendly technology. The wear and corrosion resistance of components manufactured from Al-based alloys can be drastically increased by the application of ceramic coatings produced by PEO. The PEO process operates at potentials greater than typical breakdown voltages of the original oxide films (typically V). Breakdown of the film is accompanied by multiple sparking on treated surfaces. Currently, PEO processes are in a transition phase from research to commercial applications, mainly focused on the corrosion and wear protection of light alloys. The properties of the coatings produced by PEO can be controlled and altered by changing process parameters. Although a lot of researchers have studied the PEO process, there is not much information available about the role of electrical parameters such as frequency and duty cycle. In this study, the effects of frequency and duty cycle on morphology, phase contents and growth rate of PEO coatings on Al alloy produced by pulsed uni-polar DC current was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) . Coatings were found to consist primarily of two phases: α-Al O and γ-Al O with varying ratios. It was observed that changing the electrical parameters affects microstructure, ratio of phases and surface morphology of produced coatings. To compare the effects of additives, dodecyl and saccharin were added to the bath. Coatings were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscope, X-Ray Diffraction and Atomic Force Microscopy. Micro hardness was also measured. Results showed that in all cases, the texture of coatings was { }. Semi-spherical morphology was observed in the presence and absence of dodecyl. Conversely, saccharin led to a smooth surface. Values of Ra and Rms showed that both additives reduce the roughness of the coatings. The roughness of the coatings produced in the presence of saccharin was the lowest. Hardness measurements showed that coatings produced in the bath with saccharin have the highest micro hardness,. Calculating the grain size of the coatings showed that all the deposits have nano-crystalline structures. The modulus of MRNCs can be controlled by strength of magnetic fields. The MRNCs are proposed to manufacture newer products of less weight like miniature grippers. The development of new products requires the characterization of the rheological and mechanical behavior of the materials and the correct preparation for further applications. A laser setup is used to prepare the nanosized carbonyl iron particles. The µm carbonyl iron particles are ablated to nanometers using CO laser setup. The MRNCs is fabricated under isotropic condition and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopes (FESEM). In the course of material development, the magnetic attraction is compared among four nanocomposite samples containing the different percentages of nanosized carbonyl iron particles. The mechanical property tests are conducted to determine the hardness and the elastic modulus. The rheological tests are performed to study the curing aspects of MRNCs. The magnetic properties of MRNCs are practically measured and recorded. Through successful development of MRNCs, the produced MR nanocomposites are used in its potential application for a miniature gripper. Different specimens made from a mixture of fine fly ash and rice husk bark ash with and without POC were subjected to compressive strength tests at , and days of curing. The specimens were oven cured for h at oC and then cured at room temperature until , and days. Addition of POC to the geopolymeric mixtures caused reduced strength at all age of curing. However a considerable increase in strength to weight ratio was acquired for the specimen with a high content of fine POC particles at days of curing. Thermogravimetric analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy both also are in agreement with the obtained results from compressive strength tests. It was shown that increasing the POC content reduced the weight loss during thermogravimetric analysis and hence increases the heat stability. Dehdashti (6) [email protected] Abstract : Electrospinning is a versatile and straight forward process for synthesizing onedimensional ( D) nanostructures of diverse materials. Conventional fiber synthesis techniques of wet, dry, melt, and gel spinning, are capable of producing polymer fibers with diameters down to the micrometer range while electrospinning, also known as electrostatic spinning, is capable of producing polymer fibers with nanoscale diameters. In this paper, we report a simple chemical method for the preparation of ZnO semiconducting nanofibers from zinc acetate/PVA by using electrospinning method. So the fibers thus obtained were calcined at 700°C K for hours and ceramic ZnO fibers were obtained. The morphological features, crystallinity, and optical properties of the ZnO nanofibers were studied by SEM images, XRD pattern, UV-vis and PL and FT-IR Spectroscopy and used of the scherer equation for the approximation crystallite size. SEM images showed that the diameters of ceramic ZnO fibers calcined at 700°C are found –80 nm. XRD results showed that the obtained ZnO nanofibers were composed of hexagonal wurtzite phase with very good crystallinity. The crystallite size obtained as 32 nm using Scherer formula. The PL and UV absorbtion spectra showed a broad green band emission and a relatively narrow absorbtion band at 550 and 274 nm respectively. Biomaterials are categorized into three primary types, metallic, ceramic, and polymers. Here the biological modification of biomaterial surfaces such as metals, ceramics, and polymers and the effects of such of biological modifications are discussed. It is well known that cellular compatibility is regulated by three interactions; one is with extracellular matrices (ECM), second with neighboring cells, and third with soluble biosignals such as growth factors. Fathi (3) [email protected] Abstract : Two-step sintering (TSS) has been applied to suppress the accelerated grain growth of Hydroxyapatite (HA) and Titania (TiO ) nanoparticles in the HA-TiO composites in the last sintering stage. Application of this method showed that the final grain size of HA- wt.%TiO is maintained lower than nm, while through conventional sintering it reaches higher than nm. To find how important the temperatures at sintering steps might be, several TSS regimes were conducted. The results showed that the temperatures were critical at both sintering stages. The optimum regime consisted of heating the green bodies up to ˚C in the first step of sintering and then holding at 1050˚C for about 25h in the second step. This yielded the finest microstructure with no exaggeration in grain growth. The specimens prepared by optimum TSS regime resulted in no pernicious α-TCP phase. Emam-Djomeh (4) Abdolrasul Oromiehie (5) [email protected] Abstract : Poly(ethylene terephthalate)/TiO nanocomposite films were prepared by melt blending of PET and anatase TiO . Anatase TiO at three levels ( , and %) added to the polymer matrix. DSC analyses show that the presence of nanofillers noticeably affects the crystallization temperature and final degree of crystallinity of PET. The crystallization temperature moves to higher temperatures in comparison to neat PET while the value of melting point does not change considerably. TiO nanoparticles play the role of heterogeneous nucleus and generally promote the crystallization process in the obtained PET/TiO nanocomposites. Bayat (1)A. R. Khavandi (2)R. Ghasemzadeh (3) [email protected] Abstract : In this work, TiCr intermetallic was successfully synthesized by calciothermic coreduction of the TiO and Cr O powders. Differential thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction were used for determining the formation mechanism of this compound. It was found that the molten Ca reacts with Cr O through an exothermic reaction at about °C and Cr and CaO were formed. By increasing the temperature, CaTiO was formed because of the reaction of CaO and TiO . As the temperature increased to about °C, Ti was formed because of the Ca reaction with the remained TiO and CaTiO through an exothermic reaction. Finally, TiCr was formed by the mutual diffusion of Ti and Cr elements. The obtained TiCr powder contained ppm oxygen and showed the capability of a hydrogen absorption material after activation. The interfacial method is a facile chemical route to preparation of high-quality polyaniline nanofibers under ambient conditions using aqueous/organic interfacial polymerization. The nanofibers have nearly uniform diameters. The synthesis is based on the well-known chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline in a strongly acidic environment, with ammonium peroxydisulfate as the oxidant. Instead of using the traditional homogeneous aqueous solution of aniline, acid, and oxidant, the polymerization is performed in an immiscible organic/aqueous biphasic system, to separate the byproducts (inorganic salts, oligomers, etc.) according to their solubility in the organic and aqueous phases. Akhavan (1)A. Tahvilian (2)A. Saghayannejad (3)M. Toroghinejad (4) [email protected] Abstract : Accumulative roll-bonding (ARB) process is an intense plastic deformation process that has been performed for a multilayered Al/Al composite from pure Aluminum ( ) sheets and Aluminum-Magnesium ( ) sheets to develop ultra-fine grains below µm in diameter and to improve mechanical properties. The ARB process up to six cycles is performed at ambient temperature under unlubricated conditions. The ultra-fine grains surrounded by clear boundaries begin to appear at the third cycle, and the specimen after six cycles shows a microstructure covered with nano-grains with an average diameter of nm. The hardness of the specimens ARBed by one, three and five cycles varies inhomogeneously in the thickness direction; having peak values near the surface and the center. This is due to the redundant shear strain and wire brushing. It has been seen that the textural evolution has no similarity with the simple shear texture; the components can be well represented by the ideal rolling texture components. Texture analysis revealed fiber textures have been discovered with continuous of the ARB process cupper. The compositions of the binary and ternary alloys was Ti- Al and Ti- Al- Cr at.% prepared and cast using vacuum are remelting (VAR) process. Homogenizing and a post heat-treatment processes were employed and performed on the cast ingots to refine the microstructure of the samples to a refined duplex (DP) structure. Tension test at elevated temperatures was selected as a representative for the mechanical behavior of the alloys. Tensile yield and ultimate strengths and elongation of the samples were tested and measured at ambient temperature, , , , , and °C. In the other hand, optical and scanning electron microscopies followed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and image analyses were used to characterize the microstructure of the samples. It was found that Cr addition to about at.% can increase both the strength and ductility of TiAl in ambient and elevated temperatures. The yield strength and elongation of the binary alloy were improved for about % and % respectively at ambient temperature and % and % at °C. The ultimate strength of both alloys was increased about and % for binary and ternary alloys in temperature range of °C. In one hand, the changes of electronic structure parameters in the lattice of ternary TiAl alloys were calculated by employing the discrete variational Xα cluster method. Calculations were set such to consider the ternary TiAl containing third alloying elements for about at.% in the hypothetical composition. Parameters changes of the bond strength, the bonding anisotropy ratio and the lattice resistivity to the micro-deformations, by addition of V and Cr alloying elements were calculated and discussed. In the other hand, experimental tension tests were designed and carried out at ambient temperature on the standard samples of the Ti- Al, Ti- Al- V and Ti- Al- Cr alloys which produced with the similar compositions to those calculated. Calculations results show that addition of V and Cr alloying elements to binary TiAl can increase the yield strength of the alloy by increasing the lattice resistivity to motion of preferred dislocations. Also, addition of both the Cr and V alloying elements results in improving the ductility of TiAl alloys by reducing the resistance of the lattice to motion of the l/ < ] ordinary dislocation and / > < ] superdiclocation relative to the >< ] superdislocation which is in agreeing with the experimental results. Moreover, Results show that the Cr addition has more ductilizing effect on the binary TiAl compared to the V because of the fact that addition of Cr has a larger influence on nearing the tetragonal ratio to Keywords : TiAl, deformation mechanisms, discrete variational-Xα method, mechanical behavior, alloy - Master of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran - Professor of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Iran University of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran - Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ecole de Technologie Superieure, Montreal, Canada 89 89 st 1 New and Advanced Materials International Congress NAMIC 2012 - May 30-31 Nano materials 40212061130 Synergistic Effect of ZnO and Functionalized Carbon Nanotube on the Improvement of Filler Dispersion F.Abbasi sourki (1)M.Alimardani (2)G.R.Bakhshandeh (3) [email protected] Abstract : In this study preparation of carboxylated styrene butadiene rubber (XSBR), multiwall carbon nanotube nanocomposite (MWCNT) was investigated by using a ball mill and in the latex form. Influence of kaolin on surface properties of PVC was investigated by the use of various surface analysis instruments including atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and reflectance spectroscopy (RS). AFM and SEM figures of the resultant nanocomposites illustrated increased surface roughness compared to pure PVC. Optical properties of nanocomposite films were finally determined by the aid of reflectance spectrophotometer. It can seen from optical measurement of composites containing kaolin particles that reflectance curves changes after incorporation of kaolin in composite. Natural polymers like starch are of considerable interest in the fields of biotechnology, biomedical engineering, and pharmaceutical controlled release devices. In the present work, biodegradable and thermosensitive superabsorbent nanohydrogels were synthesized by graft copolymerization of poly N-isopropyl acrylamide (PNIAAm)/itaconic acid (IA) onto starch via free radical copolymerization in the absence of chemical crosslinker agent. The starch grafted nanohydrogels were characterized by FT-IR and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Dynamic light scattering (DLS) showed 60-100 nm size distribution for the synthesized hydrogels. TGA studies indicated that grafting of poly(NIPAAm-co-IA) onto starch leads to an overall improvement in the thermal stability. The effect of different amount of ammoniumpersulfate as the polymerization initiator, on the water absorption of the superabsorbent polymers, pH sensitivity and thermal behaviors were investigated. The water absorption of the grafted copolymer synthesized by 10.0 wt% APS gave the highest water absorption degree of 45 g /g. Hydrogels were sensitive to environmental pH. So, the swelling behaviors of the superabsorbent nanohydrogel were studied at various pH values between 3 and 12, at room temperature. Under acidic pH values (3), most of the carboxylate anions are protonated, so the main anion–anion repulsive forces are eliminated and consequently swelling values are decreased. At higher pH values, some of the carboxylate groups are ionized and the electrostatic repulsion between COO- groups causes an enhancement of the swelling capacity. The obtained nanohydrogels may potentially be used in biomedicine, pharmaceutics and controlled delivery of bioactive agents. As a result of their exceptional photophysical properties, they are gathering widespread attention. In this work presented here, cdse/zns core/shell tunable quantum dots were synthesize in two stage by solvothermal method . Their application in biological fluids or aqueous environment requires modulation of chemical nature of quantum dot surfaces. The copper base nano-composites reinforced with fine TiO particles have almost identical electrical and thermal conductivity with copper; in addition, because of the dispersion of the fine TiO particles, Cu/TiO composite has more strength than pure Cu, which improves copper matrix strength through impeding dislocation movement. In this work, first Cu and Ti powders were mechanically alloyed for h under Argon atmosphere and then Cu O powders were added as oxidant. The specimens, containing different amounts of TiO were produced by in-situ oxidation of Cu-Ti pre-alloyed powders. For compaction, at the first step powders pressed under MPa pressure at °C and then pressed at MPa in room temperature. The compact was then sintered at °C for h under argon atmosphere. Physical and mechanical properties such as density, specific electrical resistivity and hardness of the products were altered with amount of TiO in Cu matrix. On the other hand, monolithic MoSi shows extreme brittleness and poor impact strength at lower temperature, and low strength and creep resistance at elevated temperature (> ). To overcome these weaknesses, solid solution of MoSi /WSi was prepared by Self-Propagating High Temperature Synthesis (SHS). The ferrite precursors were achieved from mixtures of strontium and ferric chloride in a aqueous media whit out any surfactants and soft templates. After washing and drying, the as-received powder were calcinated at different temperatures at and oC for constant annealing time h in an air atmosphere. The powders formed were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). It was found that the single-phase SrFe O powders were obtained by increasing the calcination temperature at oC for h. Moreover, the results indicated that the maximum saturation magnetization ( emu/g) was achieved by increasing the annealing temperature oC because of the formation of a nanocrystalline powder. Wide coercivities ( –5100 Oe) can be achieved at different synthesis temperature. Likewise, the microstructure and the magnetic properties of the produced Sr–M ferrite powder were strongly dependent on the synthesis temperature. The results compared with ARB processed monolithic aluminum. According to the results of tensile tests, it is shown that the tensile strength of the composite, as a function of nickel content, has a maximum value at vol.%, which is times higher than that of the annealed aluminum. It is also found that the tensile strength and hardness of the ARB processed composites and monolithic aluminum increase with the number of cycles. However, the tensile strength and hardness of the composites are much higher than those of the monolithic aluminum. The tensile test results revealed that the elongation of the composites is lower than that of the monolithic aluminum. The rheological properties play an important role in the process of cement delivery into the bone defects. In this study the influence of Cephalexin on the rheological behavior of CPC was investigated at °C. Different amounts of antibiotic ( –10 wt.%) were added to CPC pastes composed of calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate and tetracalcium phosphate at a mass ratio of 1:1 and 3wt.% nano-crystalline hydroxyapatite (nHA) as a nucleating agent. In all exams, amount of CPC was constant, but P/L ratio increased with increasing amount of antibiotic. Rheological properties were measured with rheometer in rotation and oscillation modes. The results showed that CPC pastes containing different percentages of antibiotic at different shear rates exhibited different rheological behaviour. Viscosity increased as amount of antibiotic was increased. Although shear thinning is the main rheological behaviour for all samples at low shear rates. But shear thickening behaviour can be seen at higher shear rates. It reveals that increasing of antibiotic concentration can change the viscosity behaviour of pastes, and it was made by interaction between particles of CPC and antibiotic. Pakzaman (1)A.R. Khavandi (2)M. Divandari (3) [email protected] Abstract : The current investigation involves fabrication and characterization of aluminum alloy (A ) matrix composites reinforced with the interconnected, two-dimensional, steel wire performs. The composites were produced by lost foam casting process and were heat treated to get ‘reaction interface’ (RI) Micro hardness and tensile properties of the matrix, as-cast and heat treated composites have been determined and the microstructure of the specimens was examined with optical and scanning electron microscopes. Micro structural characterization conducted on the as-cast composite samples showed some pores at the Al matrix/steel wire interface. However, nearly all the heat treated composites showed a completed bonding because of the formation of reaction layer at the interface. Hardness and strength of composites increased as compared to matrix alloy. The mechanical properties of these composites were measured and the results were correlated with the microstructure observation. While micro hardness of the composite showed variation from to Hv across the interface in the as-cast composite, annealed ( °C) composite showed a micro hardness of Hv at the interface indicating the effectiveness of the heat treatment. The results have been discussed in terms of wetting between steel wires and the matrix, particularly the increase of hardness and tensile strength to the formation of ‘reaction interface’ due to annealing The width of the interface increased with annealing time and temperature. Polymer colloids are defined as a dispersion of the monodisperse polymeric particles in liquid medium. Researches in this field is interesting for years. Recently a lots of researches are discussed about synthesis of polymeric nano-particles. These nano-particles can be used in different applications like biopolymer, bioelectric improve impact resistance. These magnets are used to compose electrical appliances such as electrical engines, etc. In the first approach (i.e. solvent base), three different binders were used as polymer matrix to compose Nd-Fe-B hybrid magnets. In order to solve each binder, different solvents were used. In the second approach (i.e. melting base) the polymer was melted and mixed thoroughly with metallic powder, in order to gain a mixture of metallic powder and the polymer matrix. The resulted product, then, crushed into granules following an injecting by a Mardoni injection instrument. Eventually, the mechanical and magnetic properties of the produced samples were investigated. These produced samples, would never reach their maximum tensile strength, in the room temperature. In the high temperatures, the effect of material hardness, as a function of applied strain, for the samples containing lower solid particles and the samples containing higher solid particles, can be affordable after % strain and % strain, respectively. The present work was based on Le Chatelier’s principle which dictates that the presence of water vapour should impede the release of water vapour from hydroxyapatite, and thus suppresses the decomposition of hydroxyapatite to unhydrated calcium phosphate phases. After characterizing the first powders using X-ray diffraction technic (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), Pure hydroxyapatite, hydroxyapatite wt% alumina and hydroxyapatite wt% titanium mixtures were pressed and sintered in air, moist, and reduction atmospheres at oC for h. In order to study the phase and structural evolution, XRD was used. Phase investigation of sintered bodies showed that, pure hydroxyapatite is stable in all three atmospheres at oC. But, moist and reduction atmospheres were preferred atmospheres to suppress the hydroxyapatite decomposition in hydroxyapatite alumina and hydroxyapatite –titanium nanocomposites, respectively. M. Eslami Tabaei (1)M. Ghane (2) Abstract : Radiation is energy emission in electromagnetic waves such as, Gamma, ultraviolet, visible, infrared or corpuscle. People are surrounded by things always emitting and absorbing radiative energy at the same time. The past decade has witnessed an alarming increase in the incidence of skin cancer worldwide because of ultraviolet radiation. Therefore protective textiles against ultraviolet radiation seem essential. This paper purpose is to compare the effect of Aluminum to that of Copper on UV protection factor. Using Cotton-Polyester and Nylon as warps and Aluminum, Copper, Cotton-Polyester and Nylon as wefts, six sample fabrics were woven and coded as Cotton-Polyester, Nylon , Cotton- Aluminum, CottonCopper, Nylon-Aluminum and Nylon-Copper. F and Smith were two machines with which samples were woven. Warp and weft density of fabrics were considered constant so that the effect of metal in fabrics structure could be investigated better. Cotton-Polyester and Nylon fabrics were considered as main samples to which other fabrics composed of metal were compared. In other word, Nylon-Aluminum alongside Nylon-Copper and Cotton-Aluminum alongside Cotton-Copper were compared to Nylon and Cotton-Polyester, respectively. Appling two ANOVA and DUNCAN in SPSS statistical software, the level of comparison significance was determined. Regarding the fact that Copper emissivity coefficient is higher than that of Aluminum, results were supposed to indicate more amount of electromagnetic waves absorption in all Copper samples in comparison to Aluminum ones. However, experimental results showed that Copper had no significant effect on ultraviolet protection factor of woven fabrics composed of Cotton-Polyester. By contrast, for Nylon , applying Aluminum metal didn’t cause any significant influence on improving ultraviolet protection factor. Mentioned results could be attributed to different cover factors of woven samples. As results showed, Nylon fabrics with Copper metal as their wefts accounted for better ultraviolet protection. We have developed a new technique based on industrial electroplating to produce ultra-black Ni based coatings with nano-composite structure. This technique uses electroplating method to produce black Ni nano metal-oxide composite coatings on brass substrate with a bright Ni top layer. TiO and ZrO sol solutions were added to the electroplating solution to form black Ni/TiO and black Ni/ZrO composite coatings. The coating properties including hardness and scratch resistance have been improved in comparison with the conventional black Ni coating. These include non-exothermic setting reaction with no thermal damage to surrounding tissues, minimal shrinkage during gelation, the possibility of incorporation drugs and growth factors within the cement and the ability to release fluoride. It is already known that fluoride increase trabecular bone density and it is used in the treatment of osteoporosis to inhibit bone resorbtion. However, fluoride release process is complex and affected by variables related to the cement formulation, manipulation, the mixing process and elution medium. This study was made to examine the change of the cement powder composition on the fluoride release profile in simulated body fluid for clinical efficacy in respect of orthopedic surgery. Therefore, the effects of adding different content of bioactive glass to the new cured cement on elution of fluoride and its kinetic were investigated. Internal microwave heating initiated ignition at center of the sample and combustion wave front propagated radially outwards. Open-cell porous MoSi intermetallics with adjustable pore characteristics were successfully produced from MoO , SiO , Mg and C raw materials. Manipulating volume fraction and particle size of the utilized carbon, porosity and pore size of MoSi intermetallics were easily controlled. Their values were in the ranges of - % and mm, respectively. From thermodynamic analyses of MoO –xMg–yC system, optimal ranges of x and y coefficients were so found to ensure complete reduction of MoO3 to metallic molybdenum. Idris (1)Tania Vodenitcharova (2)Mark Hoffman (3) [email protected] Abstract : Structural components made of metal foam sandwich composites can be locally damaged during handling or in impact accidents. It is imperative for their design to account for the response of the sandwich composites to local damage of varying sizes, and to estimate their residual strength under operating loading conditions. This paper presents an experimental study of the deformation and failure mechanisms of sandwich composites made of closed-cell aluminium foam core (ALPORAS) and carbon fiber skins. The composites are first subjected to quasi-static indentations with spherical indenters of various diameters and then loaded in quasi-static four-point bending until failure. The failure modes in both loading cases were analysed, and the residual compressive and tensile strength in bending was determined along with their dependence on the induced damage. Mixing was performed using melt processing in an Extruder Co rotating Twin Screw. After etching the materials with boiling Toluene and THF at room temperature, the morphology was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to evaluate the effects of the Organo-Clay addition on the structure of nanocomposites. XRD traces showed that the characteristic ( ) peak of the nanocomposites shifted to the lower angle region. XRD and TEM results showed simultaneous existence exfoliated and intercalated structures in produced nanocomposites. The tensile properties and impact strength of these toughened nanocomposites are discussed in terms of the MMT and SEBS-gMA contents and morphology. Adding of nanoclay enhanced and improved the stiffness properties of produced nanocomposites but reduced their toughness properties. Adding of SEBS-g-MA reduced stiffness properties but increased toughness properties. In this project, we gain access a best, optimum composition which there is a clear trade-off between stiffness versus toughness. Sedaghat (1)M. Soleymani (2)M. Talachian (3) alireza_sedaghat.liau.ac.ir Abstract : The importance of environmental effects on the structural performance of wood has been known for ages, moisture being the most pronounced degradative effect that needs to be taken into account at different levels of wooden structure durability. Moisture content has an effect on many mechanical and physical properties below the fiber saturation point. The results presented herein focus on the chracterisation of fracture mechanisms and properties of softwoods and hardwoods at the highest moisture content around the fiber saturation point, where wood can be regarded as a poroelastic fluid-saturated media. Small wooden specimens were subjected to opening fracture mode I loading with the wedge-splitting loading stage which allows for in-situ real-time ESEM investigations. Fracture responses are reported for four different wood species tested ex situ, and fracture parameters such as total fracture energy are discussed related to two fracture directions RL and RT. It is concluded that microstudy provides valuable evidence on the change of fracture mechanism with wood species and fracture orientation.
