April 1819. François Constantin takes responsibility for the worldwide
business expansion of Vacheron Constantin. During a business trip to Italy,
this visionary man coined the phrase which would become the company
motto in a letter addressed to the manufacture: « …do better if possible, and that
is always possible …».
True to this motto and to the spirit that forged its history,
Vacheron Constantin still remains committed to pushing
the boundaries of watchmaking in order to provide its
clients with the highest standards of technology, aesthetics
and nish.

IWC
In 2011, the year of Portofino, fans of this watch family can
look forward to two revised and one newly developed
watch models. With the IWC-manufactured 59210-calibre
movement featured in the Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days,
this traditional watch family impressively scales the Mount
Olympus of Haute Horlogerie.
Jaeger-LeCoultre
Master ultra-thin the grandest form of horological minimalism
in ultra-thin watches are not only one of the most long lasting
historical specialities of the manufacture, but indeed give rise
to the joining of two names Jaeger and LeCoultre. The Master
Grande ultra-thin embodies horological refinement - from the
subtle design of its lugs to the clarity of its dial featuring a small
seconds subdial.
BREGUET
Whether extra-slim models with manually wound or
automatic movements or complicated watches, they are all
true to the technical principles, the artistry and the traditional
values of the Breguet watch. Classique wristwatches capture
the essence of Breguet’s original features. In some models, the
precious materials of former times and fired-enamel dials with
Arabic numerals will delight Breguet enthusiasts.
Perfect Partners
The latest collections of extravagantly exclusive timepieces is the perfect partnership for the high stake watch
connoisseurs who like to express their individuality
Zenith
Designed for men with distinguished taste, The Zenith
Moonphase line associates a stream-lined design and a strong
identity; it expresses a very masculine elegance and takes its
place in Zenith’s family of “Classical” timepieces. The ultra-thin
automatic watch with large date and moonphase indicator
is assembled with 228 part and 28,800 vibrations per hour
ensuring performance, reliability and precision.
Audemars Piguet
Jules Audemars collection wears 1920s inspiration on the
outside, but it is thoroughly up to date on the inside. The
numerals on the dial and the pear hands give the watch a
strong, classic look.

PIAGET
An ultra-thin ideology is at the heart of Piaget’s culture and
history. Since the ‘50s, the legendary 9P and 12P movements
have inspired a range of calibers as thin as they are efficient.
The latest 1200P and 1208P movements have set new records
today, majestically highlighting the refined aesthetics of the
Piaget Altiplano collection of ultra-thin timepieces.

George Daniels
Gerald Genta
A Passion for Watches
A tribute to two of the world’s watch making geniuses: Gerald Genta & George Daniels
Gerald Genta
Gerald Genta is one of the most important protagonists in
the haute horlogerie. This great man was brilliant, cultured
and a true gentleman, the traits of character that we will most
clearly remember are the generosity, the creativity and the
passion for horological tradition of this colourful figure. His
visionary mind gave rise to numerous watchmaking legends,
and he made an unequalled contribution to the field of haute
horlogerie. Mr Genta was born in Geneva, to Italian parents.
Mr Genta had artistic learning, earning a Swiss federal diploma
in jewellery and goldsmith training at the age of 20. Later on
in life Genta would once again turn to painting and sculpture,
a practice that had made a profound impact on his work with
watch design.
As a young man he trained as a jeweller, but it was as a creator
in which he excelled. His mind sprouted with ideas that his
skilled hands translated into sketches and designs that he sold
to jewellers, and in later years, the watch industry.
In 1970’s Audemars Piguet turned to Gerald Genta to come up
with a watch and his creation was the birth of the Royal Oak.
His death has come just a year before the 40th anniversary
of the model that catapulted Audemars Piguet to fame. His
genius was such that in the 70’s he produced a steady stream
of creations, occasionally shocking the industry by his daring
association with unprecedented shapes and materials with
complex mechanisms. Genta designed for Omega, Patek
Philippe, IWC, Universal Geneve, and many others. It was in
the 1970s that he founded the brand bearing his name and
opened an Atelier in Geneva. He later started his own brand
that carried his name making pieces that were, to say the least,
complicated and unique.
He became recognised for his retrograde watches, Perpetual
Calanders, Minute Repeaters and Grande Suonerie. In the 90’s
Gerald Genta agreed with Bulgari Group and handed over his
brand, due to strong competition from the big maisons.
Dr George Daniels
Master watchmaker George Daniels passed away on the
21st November 2011. Dr Daniels had worked in his
profession for more than sixty years and in the course of
his life was presented with more honours than any other
horlogist. George Daniels was a former Master of the
Clockmaker’s Company in London and former President of
the Horological Institute. He received various prestigious
awards, one of which in 2010, when he was Knighted as a
Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British
Empire (CBE). This honour was bestowed upon him by Queen
Elizabeth II for his contributions to watchmaking.
Audemars Piguet
Royal Oak Offshore
Dr Daniels will always be remembered for his invention of
the Omega Co-Axial escapement, a mechanical movement
that changed watchmaking forever. Omega produced its first
movement fitted with a Co-Axial escapement in 1999 and
introduced its proprietary Co-Axial calibre built around the
escapement in 2007. Today, with very few exceptions, all of
Omega’s mechanical watches are equipped with Co-Axial
movements. He was one of the only watchmakers in the
world who could create every working part - including the
screws, which were all hand-made.
George Daniels was asked in 2009 if he was surprised by the
renewed popularity of the mechanical watches. His answer
was characteristically clear, “Not at all,” he said. He went on
to say “I have often said that I’ve never been in doubt that
the mechanical watch would survive. My mantra has long
been that the survival of the mechanical watch is ensured
by its qualities: it is historic, technical, intellectual, aesthetic,
useful and even amusing. These properties have sustained the
popularity of mechanical watches through the ages and are
bound to carry it well into the future.
One of the real benefits of the Co-Axial escapement: it will
play a major role of extending the popularity of mechanical
watches into the 21st century and beyond.”

Complicated watches

Performance & Precision
Born of the desire to defy the laws of mechanics by
combining the greatest number of functions in one case,
ultra-complicated watches are the ultimate expression
of the watchmaker’s art. These timepieces are almost
exclusively made as a very limited edition - some will
only ever be made once - for the joy of collectors and
admirers of exploits. Numerous timepieces should
warrant the title of “complicated” and even “very
complicated”. Since these watchmakers have made every
effort to extend the limits of their art - and demonstrate
their own dexterity - by combining the greatest possible
number of functions in the restricted space afforded by a
watch case.
The foremost ‘Manufactures’ continue to vie in their
bid to create the “world’s most complicated watch”.
Among these historical exploits, particular mention must
go to Breguet, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger LeCoultre,
Zenith and Audemars Piguet. Alongside such stunning
demonstrations of savoir-faire, watchmakers propose
an impressive number of “grande complication” watches
which, while having fewer functions, are even more
attentive to simplicity of use, functionality and legibility.
Breguet
Breguet’s Classique Hora Mundi was a Baselworld star
this year. In simple terms, it is the first example of a
mechanical timepiece with an instant-jump time zone
display. All of the displays jump between time zones with
the push of a button. Once you see it, the concept is so
intuitive, you wonder why it has not been done before.
Ulysse Nardin
Ulysse Nardin continues to be in the forefront of
watchmaking technology by pioneering new materials in
manufacturing high precision movement components and
most innovative timepieces. Ulysse Nardin Sonata with an
alarm with cathedral gong, countdown indicator and a dual
time system with instant time zone adjustor.

Jaeger-LeCoultre
Duo Metre - An exceptional timepiece with amazing
focus on each detail beginning with the mechanics and
ending with the spectacular decorated finish of the
movement. The movement nicknamed the “dual Wing:
is powered by 2 separate mechanisms that drive the two
features of the watch (Time & Chronograph), while a
single regulating mechanism ensures equally high accuracy
of all features.

MONT BLANC
In 2007 Mont Blanc joined forces with Minerva
transforming it into the Institut Minerva de Recherche en
Haute Horlogerie. Dedicated to reinvigorating tradition
through innovation. The new venture focuses its
efforts on developing new movements and watchmaking
techniques.
Vacheron Constantin
Classic designs is the patrimony collection’s strong suit, its
fundamentals clearly reflects Vacheron Constantin’s founding
values. Beating mechanical rhythms both simple and
highly sophisticated, its timepieces also express the brands
contemporary elegance.
Complicated watches
Franck Muller
Aeternitas - The most complicated wrist watch in the
world with 36 complications, 1483 components and 99
jewels. The Mechanic Tourbillon, Carillon Westminster

Secular, Equation of time, Two additional time zones,
Automatic self-winding mechanism for the movement
and the Westminster carillon.
Velocity helps predict where a tornado will travel and how fast, high performance watches
fuses technical prowess and exceptional accuracy in timekeeping
Jaeger-LeCoultre
A remarkable combination of technical performance and
high watchmaking tradition, this exceptional timepiece
has added a new dimension to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s
heritage in the form of a double complication movement.
Its refined design and exclusive finishes are a true
homage to traditional fine watchmaking.
Zenith
The Striking 10th is capable of timing events with accuracy
down to 1/10 of a second. It accomplishes this thanks to its
“high beat” movement, which oscillates 36,000 times per
hour, or 10 times per second. Other chronographs only
oscillate at five or eight times per second, making them
unable to claim the precision of the Zenith El Primero
Striking 10th.

If the memory of the past does indeed serve to write the
future, the Piaget Polo Fortyfive is certainly a vivid illustration
of the maxim. Featuring a trendy 45mm diameter case

Audemars Piguet
BREGUET
Given the reliability and accuracy of this calibre, these
newcomers to the Royal Oak Offshore collection might well
lay claim to be simply perfect - each in their own distinctive
way.
The Breguet Type XXII Flyback Chronograph GMT has the
fastest movement on the market. One benefit is the ability to
record with 1/20th of second chronograph accuracy, and the
other obvious benefit, is higher accuracy in timekeeping.

Design for Life
Pearls express both the best of contemporary fashion trends and a timeless, eternal
elegance, a perfect balance of tradition and innovation
From ancient royalty to modern fashion, pearls have held sway as the most desired and elegant adornment. Today’s haute
couture houses recognize the value of pearls’ classic appeal. Indeed, some of the most famous Mikimoto designs are in this
timeless category. When building a jewellery wardrobe to enhance our diverse lifestyle everyday must-haves should be pearls.
The versatility of pearls could be worn in an infinite number of ways. Mikimoto pearls are ultimately the best pearls in the world
only 5% of the world’s harvested pearls are chosen by Mikimoto.
Mikimoto Poseidon
These Mikimoto collections combine the craftsmanship and sophistication of design with the highest quality cultured pearls in the
world. The pearls are truly the focal point of the jewellery pieces, thanks to an exclusive spring tension system that holds them in
place. Each piece is individually made and finished by hand, a luxury that very few manufacturers can provide.
Pearl Types:
White South Sea
The magnificent, satiny lustre of these fantastic white pearls is
produced by the silver-lipped South Sea oyster. Their subdued
opalescence will subtly change in appearance under different
light conditions, making them a constant marvel to behold.
Harvested in sizes from 9mm and up, their shapes range from
round, oval or teardrop to free-form baroque.
Golden South Sea
These opulent pearls are produced by the golden-lipped
oyster. Harvested in sizes of 9mm and up, their warm, natural
golden colour is said to be rarer than gold itself. The colour
palette ranges from light champagne to a very rare, deep gold.
This oyster species can also produce richly luminescent white
pearls, but the deeper golden colours are the most coveted of
all pearls.
Black South Sea
The breathtaking colour of these naturally black pearls is
produced by black-lipped oysters in the waters off Tahiti and
Okinawa. Sizes begin at 8mm, in round, oval, teardrop or
unique baroque shapes. While characterised as black, the rich,
dark colours actually range from slate grey, silver and pistachio
to peacock green and midnight black with overtones of green,
rosé or blue.
Akoya Pearl
Prized for their brilliant lustre and rich colour, Akoya pearls
are a traditional symbol of elegance and beauty. Produced by
Japan’s Akoya oysters, they are the most popular of all pearl
types. Depending on the size of the oyster, they grow from
3-10mm.

A MAN BET ON HORSES AND CHANGED
WATCHMAKING FOREVER .
In 1821, at a horse race in Paris, Nicolas Rieussec successfully tested his
revolutionary invention that allowed time to be recorded to an accuracy of a
fifth of a second. The chronograph was born. A tribute to a visionary man,
the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Anniversary Edition is centred on the
essence of his invention, the rotating disc technique. Monopusher chronograph,
manual-winding manufacture movement. 18K white-gold case. 30 min.
and 60 sec. rotating disc counters. Limited edition of 90 pieces. Crafted in the Montblanc
Manufacture in Le Locle, Switzerland.
We’re celebrating this anniversary with “ The Beauty of a Second” short-film contest,
presented by Wim Wenders. Enter now at montblanc-onesecond.com. Every second counts.
