Seasons, Lifestyles, or Attitudes?
Fashion accessories offer a buy-in to a variety of lifestyles and attitudes. There
is a move to statement pieces that are not bound by the familiar codes of a
season. Spring 2015 break-through the conventional spring colour palette,
showing spice colours (curry, cayenne, olive) that are generally associated
with Fall. Similarly, suede, normally a wintry material, was used in many spring
handbags. An attention grabber from the runway were leather socks! This new
item is a fashion attitude, and has nothing to do with seasonal practicality.

Eco-Friendly, Ethically Traded
Increasingly, consumers are more mindful of the products they choose. Retailers who offer eco-friendly and fairly traded products can grow this
trend and cultivate a loyal following of customers. We all can do our part to preserve our planet and better our lives.
Monarch Metamorphosis
Chic Tribal Edge with Native Material
MaLu is a fashion footwear brand with a social purpose at its
core, created by a Canadian high school teacher, whose heart
reflects the caring character of this great nation. Known for its
comfort and exquisite craftsmanship, each pair of shoes has
MaLu’s unique Monarch Butterfly outsoles that symbolize hope
and growth for all. Wear MaLu and support a charity in your
community. Ask Maria at Designs by Malu Inc. (Booth 2607,
Area 2) for details.
Colombian-born Sylvia Echavarria and her daughter Camila
are the force behind Sylca Designs (Booth 1005, Area 1).
In 2010, the duo started their own line of globally-inspired
jewelry, bags, belts, and scarves designed stateside and
produced worldwide
by craftsmen in a range
of countries, making
always-in-style bazaar
culture accessible,
eco-friendly, and
affordable.
The moniker itself
is a combination of
their names, and the collaboration reflects
their South American root - love of life, sun,
and style. With its tropical vibe and art
deco references, Sylca’s bold, colorful macro
jewelry never fails to make a statement!
Fearless fashionistas and buyers covet the
eco-chic pieces that evoke summer vacation
year-round. Nature meets design in each
piece through the use of recycled wood,
natural dyes and fibres, and coconut shell.
The result? Big rings, statement necklaces,
and arm-party worthy bracelets that are
completely wearable,
thanks to lightweight materials like
ultra-durable Bayong wood (a favorite
of style icons like jewelry maven Iris
Apfel) and vegetable fibres like abaca.
The stylish and eco-friendly jewelry
and accessories have been picked up
by Anthropologie, South Moon Under,
and Francesca’s, wholesale and private
clients nationally and internationally.
The Schwiing Spirit
Schwiing is a modern and urban prêt-à-porter brand from
Quebec, drawing its inspiration from different styles and
cultures. It stands out for its originality, vitality and versatility.
Schwiing is meant for women of character, tested for urban
lifestyle. Two collections are designed each year, using mostly
natural cotton, known for its hypoallergenic properties, easy
washing and comfort. Production contractors are committed
to employing adult workers and ethical working conditions.
Schwiing also promotes daily green waste management
and recycling. The Schwiing team is active in supporting
community organizations such as Milieu de Vie, Coup de
Pouce Jeunesse de Montreal Nord, and Ecodistrict. Schwiing’s
watchwords are: Have fun! Life is more beautiful with colours,
encounters and smiles. See the Schwiing spirit for youself!
(Booth 2905, 2908, Area 3)
Animal Friendly, Eco-Trendy
ESPE (Booth 2400, 2400A, Area 2) takes us on a ride through
time in a century of iconic bicycle designs. Portraying a
weathered French dictionary behind a collage of antique
bicycles, this 100% animal-friendly cyclepedia collection is a
staple for style, function and eco-friendliness.
Organic & Sustainable
Repurposed Components
Hailey Gerrits Designs is a Vancouver based jewelry business focused
on providing unique and sustainable jewelry. Hailey designs her pieces
using almost 100% repurposed and recycled vintage metal findings,
paired with semi-precious stones. Each piece is created and handmade
in Vancouver. The collection will be shown at The Editor Agency (Booth
SL13, Area 1).
Eco-Friendly Dye
Expressions (Booth 3203, 3203A, Area 3) designs its scarves and
leather wallets in an array of colours in keeping with the latest
colour trends. The wallets, in nappa leather, are handmade with
eco-friendly dyes.
Reclaimed Leather
Raw diamonds, collar necklaces and a ton
of new bracelets for Spring at BauXo. Dark
grey, teal, black and chocolate are the leather
colours of the season, the perfect backdrop to
iconic brass and silver metals. Each statement
piece is handmade with reclaimed leather to
lessen the environmental impact. Visit their
new location in Booth 2205, Area 2. BauXo is
the winner of Best Booth Award in 2014.
Canadian designer Trisha
Hinders offers a new
collection of bambooorganic cotton activewear
under her Alchemy
Fashions label (Booth 606,

sustainable collection is

More Canadian Designers

Susan Hood (Booth 2124, Area 2) brings the
art of Venetian glass to you, featuring her
own custom made beads. From one-of-a-kind
pieces to ready-to-wear, she can work with
you to make a special bead exclusive to your

SML + V Studio Inc.
This studio (Booth 2208A, Area 2) is a team of
design-pursuing hounds grounded in Toronto.
Moved by their passion for aesthetic pursuits,
they travel and hunt for exquisite elements from
all corners of the globe. This is the first time their
collection will be exhibited at the Mode Accessories
Show.
30 years and much more to come, we are dedicated to
continue to spread our philosophy: True Happiness is...True
Beauty!”
Becoming 15!
Tamara Steinborn and Nathan Dubo of Früg (Booth 612, Area 1) have
been setting jewellery trends for retailers for 15 years, while maintaining
Canadian production and a loyal clientele. “We’ve been successful for so
long because we’re always changing, always bringing new and unexpected
pieces to the Canadian market before other designers.” Over the 15 years,
they have launched 30 collections at Mode Accessories with 300 fresh pieces
per season! “Creating something new and yet extremely wearable both
challenges and motivates me at the start of every design season” says lead
designer, Tamara Steinborn. “We started when onshore production was still
the norm,” says Dubo,
“and while Früg continues
to create edgy and fun
jewellery, we are equally
serious about keeping our
design and production in
Canada.”
Returning from her first successful show in
August, designer Minling Pan (Booth 2200A, Area
2) will be showing a new selection, especially
her signature cologne bottle-shaped pint-size
clutches, ready for the red carpet!
Come by the booth for a
15th anniversary loot bag
and see this season’s 300
new pieces from the mind
of Früg!
Foxy Originals
Becoming 25!
After graduating in 1986 from Sheridan college for jewelry design, Toronto
designer Daniel Pollak (Booth 2014, Area 2) would go on to create very
recognizable pieces with a twist of strange and beautiful. Using antique glass
from West Germany and Czechoslovakia with
current Swarovski crystals, he sets them with
vintage brass and pewter castings. In a world
of low quality fast assembly, it is refreshing to
find a local artisian still making jewelry with
handcrafted methods.
The January Mode show is the only
opportunity to buy these treasures
wholesale. Pollak is hands-on with his
clients, encouraging try-ons, and giving his
honest intuition on whether the pieces are
appropriate or not. Such shopping can only
be made in person; so he does not offer
online shopping. Trusting the quality of his
creations, stores across Canada have become
repeat clients, passing the iconic jewelry onto
their customers. All pieces can be purchased immediately at the show and
there is no minimum. He also has a fantastic policy that any pieces not sold
at the buyer’s store can be exchanged at a later date. This creates movable
stock for businesses, and therefore, no need to place items on sale. In his
25-year career as a “solo artist”, he has seen how special and sentimental his
pieces could become to his clients, which is why he offers lifetime repair if a
breakage occurs.
MIN Fashion Ltd.
Chamel
Showing for the first time is Quebec jewelry designer Christine Chamel. Her
pieces are handmade original designs. See her distinctive approach to mixing
colours, textures and transparencies at Chamel (Booth 2200B, Area 2).
Delicate jewelry is gaining popularity for layering
or as a contrarian alternative to statement pieces.
Foxy’s ‘Stud Love’ is a collection of dainty little
earrings, the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day. Each
pair features Czech crystals and comes in a gold
chevron-patterned box, ready for gifting. Designs
range from hearts to horseshoes. Foxy makes
merchandising easy with this free counter display,
sized just 11 by 11 inches. As always, Foxy jewelry
(Booth 2408, Area 2) is proudly made in Canada.
Code Vitesse
It’s fast, easy, and beautiful! Designed and manufactured
with great pride in Canada, Code Vitesse (Booth 4006,
Area 4) was originally created as travel wear. It wasn’t
long before women were wearing the pieces anytime.
The unified style of the collection has the ability to
transition effortlessly. Grab a complete outfit or mix and
match to your heart’s content, you’ll always look perfectly
put together. Code Vitesse is elegant and slimming,
designed to accentuate the positives of a woman’s figure,
so it’s never a struggle to look your best. The signature
fabric is wrinkle resistant, lightweight and breathable.
With timeless designs, one can coordinate quickly; mix,
match, pack and go... any-wear, every-wear!
Please note their new booth location in Area 4.

Apparel at Mode Accessories
Dori Csengeri is an award winning, internationally
acclaimed artist, a textile designer by profession, with
offices in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, USA and Japan. Her
intriguing jewellery designs honour the tradition of hand
embroidery and textile design. “While designing, I visualize
the woman who will wear my work. She has a defined taste
and personality. I try to create
for her something different,
fresh and exciting, so she can
play the game of fashion with
me and participate in the
creation of her own image.” Csengeri’s creations are
presented worldwide in prestigious jewellery stores
and galleries and are regularly cited in leading
fashion and lifestyle magazines.
The Csengeri collection, the intricately colourful
Ayala Bar collection, and exquisite Mary Frances handbags, are all available at

The Winds of Change
Head wind - Accessories, the darling of fashion retail in recent years, still sits atop consumer’s want list. Another desirable on this list are high-tech
devices. Imagine when these two streams collide? Expect a perfect storm of new and coveted hi-tech wearables that will usher in unprecedented
changes and opportunities in retail.
The Second Wind - The mega fast-fashion chains have brought sweeping changes to the retail landscape and posed major challenges to
independent proprietors. Ingenuity in store concept and its shopping experience are required to combat these formidable giants and their pricing
power. Take STORY in New York City for instance, a retail space that has the point of view of a magazine, changes like a gallery and sells like a store.
It completely reinvents itself every 4 to 8 weeks. We see the beginning of a shift to unique shops preferred by savvy shoppers who appreciate the
character of the shop, who take pleasure in shopping within its ambience. The shopper’s choice is not entirely product or price driven, but based
on an encompassing aspiration or lifestyle concept.
The Prevailing Wind – E-commerce is here to stay, and so is the physical brick and mortar store. Success in retail rests in the seamless marriage of
both: e-channels must translate the ambience of the stores to the screen, and the physical location must assimilate the range and immediacy of the
web. Nothing can replace the face-to-face contact, and everyone wants the convenience of the web.
Quintessential Canadian Designers and
Manufacturers You Can Count On
Physical & Virtual for Maximum Reach
The Mode Accessories Show is the premier event for the fashion accessory
industry in Canada since 1987. Nothing can take the place of face-to-face
interactions, of feeling the product in your hands, and assessing in-person, the
current status of your own industry. The show provides an excellent opportunity
to do all this. And of course, finding the perfect products for your store!
But how do we stay connected after the show, or in between the shows? In the
frenetic pace of the internet age, the need for digital access is real and critical.
Modeonline.ca is the virtual answer to the physical Mode Accessories Show.
At Modeonline.ca, suppliers/wholesalers have their own digital platform to
“exhibit” their products. Buyers can shop the site and put products of interest
into a query cart. Once the buyer checks out, the order query is sent directly to
the supplier to follow up and finalize the order.
Modeonline.ca is where verified buyers can browse and place order for products
from verified suppliers. In short, a virtual Mode Accessories Show! It is the
digital wholesale portal for the fashion accessory industry.
Myka Designs, Booth 2300, Area 2
Maya and Michael Bremer have
been designing and handcrafting
their jewelry with a cosmopolitan
sense of style since 1987. This
dynamic duo represents one of the
best Canadian designer fashion
accessories company in this country.
Parkhurst, Booth 519, Area 1
Headquartered in Toronto,
Parkhurst has designed and
manufactured fashionable sweaters,
accessories and outerwear since
1926. It is the last North American
knitwear company still in operation.
Support Canadian made products
and local employment.
E-commerce is here to stay. But it is most effective only when combined with
its physical counterpart. Mode Accessories and Modeonline complement each
other to ensure success for both retail buyers and wholesale suppliers.
Don’t miss out on this critical digital
element! Join Modeonline.ca today. For
information, go to www.modeonline.ca.
