This Guide intends to help you with your enrolment on courses at UPNA, as Exchange
or Visiting Foreign student .

UPNA is located in Navarra, a region with a high standard of living located in the northern Spain,
south of the Pyrenees and one hour from the sea.

Its main campus, Campus Arrosadia, is placed in Pamplona, a city of 250,000 inhabitants
internationally known its local festivities of San Fermín, celebrated every year the 6th of July.

In the Campus Arrosadia of UPNA coexist six faculties and schools, research centres, library, dorm, a
sports centre, golf course and language school…
UPNA has an extensive cultural (www.unavarra.es/cultura) and sports (www.unavarra.es/deportes)
offer available to the entire community.
UPNA also has a specialized Health campus located in the hospital complex of Pamplona. (Avenida
Barañáin, s/n).
One hour from Pamplona, Tudela Campus offers programmes of Physiotherapy and Engineering
Design.
The community consists of more than 900 teachers, 8,000 undergraduate and graduate (master's,
doctoral and own titles) and 300 administrative staff.

3. WHAT TO DO ON ARRIVAL
1º WELCOME ACTIVITIES
Attending whenever possible, welcome activities organized by International Office. UPNA organizes a
welcome and orientation program for international exchange students on arrival September / February
with the aim of providing a first contact with the University, the city and our culture.
In this session you will be given different material and useful information (welcome guide, enrolment
guide, academic coordinator name and e-mail, user and password…
2º NOTIFY YOUR ARRIVAL
If you are not able to attend this meeting, please notify the arrival to the International Office.
3º CONTACT YOUR ACADEMIC COORDINATOR
In that session you will be given the name and e-mail of your academic coordinator and you should
contact him/her as soon as possible to fix the final program of studies. You can also contact the
Academic Coordinator for Spanish, prof. Orreaga Ibarra ([email protected]), for any doubt
related to the learning of Spanish at our institution.

You have two weeks to formalize the registration of courses with the help of academic

4. PRACTICAL INFORMATION
4.1. Housing Options
University Residence Hall
Located on the campus of Arrosadia. It has 250 rooms and there are different types of rooms: single
rooms with kitchen, single rooms with shared kitchen and double suites. Further information:

International/ exchange students have a discount of 25% on the published fee. The average monthly
price is 450 euros. If you choose this option, you must make the reservation by yourself directly at the

Shared Apartments
Most of the exchange students are accommodated in shared apartments in the city, near campus.
The Accommodation Service of the university located in the Student Information Office (room 021 of
the Classroom Building, ground floor) provide information on apartments and rooms for rent

Although prices can vary greatly, depending on the characteristics of each flat and the area where it
is located, the average price is between 250 and 300 euros per month for a single room in a shared
3 or 4 people floor, including expenses electricity, water and heating. Not all flats have a telephone
and / or Internet connection, but where they are available, these expenses are extra.
It is necessary when entering a flat to pay the first full month plus one added month deposit as a
guarantee that will be returned back when leaving if everything is OK; so you should calculate that in
the early days you may have to pay about 500 euros approximately.

4.2. Cost of life
The Spanish currency is the euro. The cost of life will vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.
500 euros is the minimum you may need to live each month, but we recommend a quote from 800
euros per month if you want to enjoy your stay travelling or enjoying leisure and other recreational
activities or training.

4.4. Visa
Citizens and residents of the European Union
Citizens and residents of the European Union do not need visa to enter Spain. With a valid identity
card or passport they can live in Spain as long as they wish.
If they are going to stay more than three months in Spain they must register in the Central Register of
Foreigners in de Foreigners Office.

Citizens from abroad Europe
Non-EU students wishing to stay more than 90 days, must follow the following procedure:
They enter Spain with a D visa issued by the Spanish consulate in the country of origin of the student
and its validity is 3 months.
During the first month of validity of the visa D, the student must apply for a student’s card that allows
him/her to live in Spain for a year.

4.5. Health Insurance
Europe
If you are a citizen of the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland you must obtain
the European Health Insurance Card in your country that will give health coverage in Spain. Check
where is your nearest Health Centre (Centro de Salud) in Pamplona (in purple in the map given).
Countries with health insurance benefit agreement
If you come from another country, see if there is agreement between the National Health Service of
your country and Spain (the case of many Latin American countries). If so, you can obtain a document
from the authorities of your country to have free coverage in Spain. Check where is your nearest Health
Centre (Centro de Salud) in Pamplona, (in purple in the map given).
Other categories
If you are not in one of the above categories, you must take out private medical insurance while in
the UPNA. Consult your insurance company about where to go in case you need it, before you may
need it. Check where is the Hospital area in Pamplona, for any emergency (purple in the map), before
you need it.

It will be able to get Internet on Campus using your user name and password. They will be given to
you at the welcome session.
Pamplona has different areas where you are able to find free Wi-Fi zones such as public parks,
libraries and cultural centres.
UPNA student card
It allows your identification as an exchange student in the university.
You will collect it at the Student Information Office, after receiving a mail.
The student card gives access to computer rooms, library, sports and cultural facilities.

6. YOUR REGISTRATION AT UPNA:
W HEN AND WHERE
You can register and modify your registration at the International Office of the University. To that
end:
1º Fill in, on your computer, the Enrolment Application Form. It has been emailed to you and it is also
published at:

2º Get the signed approval of your Coordinator at UPNA.
3º Give it to the International Office, Administration Building, (Las Sóforas), ground floor.

7. WHICH COURSES YOU CAN TAKE:
BACHELOR DEGREES
The academic offer for exchange and visiting students consists of courses of UPNA’ s Bachelor
Degrees.
Each Bachelor Degree lasts for 4 academic years.
Each academic year begins in September, ends in June; and is divided into two semesters (1st S, 2nd
S), corresponding to Fall Semester and Spring Semester.
To choose what to study:.

As Exchange or Visiting Student, you can take courses belonging to any Bachelors Degree at UPNA,
or even courses belonging to different Degrees at the same time, if you want it.

Besides, you can get university credits for cultural activities, sport activities or language courses taken
at UPNA’s Language Centre. You would not register these courses at the International Office, but
directly in each unit:

When you enrol on those courses/activities, please indicate that you would like to get credits for
them. You will have to pay for them, in the same conditions as local students.
8. CREDITS
Bachelor Degrees at UPNA are composed by 240 ECTS credits that must be compulsory achieved
in order to get the Degree. Normally speaking Spanish students take 60 ECTS per academic year (30
ECTS per semester).
1ECTS credit equals 25 student working hours, including attendance to lectures and seminars,
exams, study hours at home…

9. COURSES
A bachelor Degree consists of a list of courses (=subjects), taught during each semester.
Courses may have 6, 9, 12, ore even 24 credits.
Remember: you can only take courses given during your stay at UPNA.
Choose the courses that better fit your interests and check its semester and academic year.

10. SCHEDULES, GROUPS AND CLASSROOMS
Before you register on the courses, you must check that there are no coincidences on schedules.
1. You can see the Schedule, Groups and Classroom of each course on each Degree’s web
site.
2. Many courses have more than one group. Each group has a different schedule:
a. One course may have a morning group and an afternoon group

When you click on the semester in which the course is taught, the schedules of each Group will
appear (a y b).

In same Grades, such as, Degree in Infant Education, at Horario (1), you will get the links from where
it is possible to download the PDF files containing schedules of each course and Semester.(2).
Each Centre may publish the information about schedules, classrooms and Groups in a slightly
different way. But you will always access to this information from each Degree’s web site.
Most courses are taught in the Classroom Building, Campus Arrosadia.
Exceptions:
Degree in Nursing: Nursing Building in the Hospital’s area (Mendebaldea neighbourhood).
Degree in Engineering in Mechanical Design: Tudela Campus.
Remember: If you have any doubt, you can directly ask at the: Students Information Office,
Classroom Building, ground floor, (classroom 021), Arrosadia Campus.

As an exchange student you have the opportunity to do a crash course in Spanish, free of charge
and during the week before the beginning of the semester. It takes place at the Superior Languages
Centre from 9:30 to 13:30. More information at:

by the Language Centre at a reduced price.

14. ENROLMENT: SEMESTER COURSES
If you are a Fall Semester student:
In September you must register all the courses (Remember that they must be taught during
the Fall Semester).
If you are a Full Year Semester (Fall Semester + Spring Semester):
In September you must register all your courses (Semester 1 + Semester 2). In
February you should register courses given during the Spring Semester.

Each professor will indicate it at the beginning of each course. You can also check it in the online
information at Mi Aulario, once you have registered the course.

17. MI AULARIO
It is a web site where professors will publish the materials of their courses. You can access from the
Service’s Portal, using your personal username and password (given to you during the orientation
meeting). You can see the information about your courses, since the day after you give the Enrolment
Application Form in the International Office
