Which Fins
are Best
for You?
Large Blade Fins, often referred to as practice
fins, are normally used as a tool for younger
swimmers who have developed strokes. Large
bladed fins move more water which lifts the body up,
helping to develop certain skills and improve body
position. Often used with novice swimmers, long
blade fins aid in building water confidence and make
swimming correctly easier.
Short Blade Fins, often referred to as training
fins, are used by more advanced swimmers to refine
strokes. Their shorter stature requires more effort for
moving water and thus builds strength and improves
body position. For optimal benefit, choose a short
blade fin that also “trains the tempo” with increased
speed through the kick.
Picking the
Perfect
Paddle
Training with paddles, to maintain a fast tempo during pull, is
key to developing the strength necessary for fast swimming.
The perfect paddle is one that fits into the hand, allows one
to feel the water and “trains the tempo”. Paddles that are
too small will not provide the intended benefits. Paddles that
are too large, stress the elbows and shoulders while training
a slow tempo. For the best fit, paddles should be slightly
larger than the hand.
