Please note that these days and times are subject to change depending on enrollment. Aregistration form will need to be filled out for every program/class you want to enroll in. Registration forms are available at the MAP and on our website www.martensville.ca. Our office is located at the MAP at 200 Mike Sands Boulevard. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00am-10:00pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:00am-9:00pm. All registration fees must be paid in full when registering. We accept cash, check, and debit. If there is a program that is not listed that you would like to see offered, please contact us at 306-683-5577 and we will see if we can get it started. PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE PROGRAMS OPERATING DAYS & TIMES MAY CHANGE AS A RESULT OF CONFLICTING SCHEDULES WITH OUR FACILITIES AND/OR REGISTRATION NUMBERS. Program Refund Policy • • • • • A refund request that is received ten (10) days prior to the start of a course will receive a 100% refund. No reason shall be required. A refund request received within 10 days of the course starting or once the course has commenced, and no more than 20% of the course is complete will receive a 50% refund. After 20% of any course has been completed no refund shall be issued. 100% refund will be issued if the program is cancelled by the Recreation & Community Services Department. A pro-rated refund will be issued under the following circumstances: - Medical reasons, a medical certificate will be required. - Program class cancellations, where classes cannot be made up. KidSport™ Applications We are now accepting KidSport™ applications for fall and winter programs. KidSport™ is a children’s charity dedicated to assisting children and families facing financial obstacles with the ability to participate in community sport programs. The KidSport™ goal is to provide these children with the opportunity to achieve physical, social, intellectual, and moral development through participation in sport and/ or recreation. Individual grants of up to $750 will be available to children up to 18 years old. Applicants will be screened by the KidSport™ Committee to ensure the financial need and legitimacy of the applicant. This program will focus on basic steps from various regions of Ukraine including Poltava and Hutzul. Ukrainian dance slippers, which cost approximately $30, will be mandatory for all classes. A blouse or shirt will also be required for performances at a cost of approximately $60. The instructor will provide further information for this on the first day of classes. However, it is important that students learn to stay safe along the route. This two hour course is designed for kids that want to walk to school alone and will help prepare kids for this new responsibility by covering topics such as bullies, strangers, and traffic safety. It teaches self-defence, life skills and physical fitness with emphasis on development of one’s character. The Martensville Karate Club is a member of the Saskatchewan Karate Association. This allows our students to compete at Provincial tournaments, and if they qualify, move on to the National and International levels. It will also allow the students to take part in seminars and provincial team training sessions with instructors from around the world. Students will be encouraged to explore and develop their artistic skills and knowledge in a positive environment. Amy Coney, artist and certified teacher, will guide students in the exploration of a wide variety of subjects and media (sketch, watercolour, pastel, collage, and acrylics). Students will enjoy creating masterpieces inspired by famous artists and art movements. Each class will cover a different theme and/or technique. There will be a facial experience where you go through the steps of skin care and then a make-up application. Please bring your favorite make up as we will teach you how to use that. A gift bag of various products will also be included with this class. This entertaining four hour child safety workshop is one of our most popular courses and is designed to prepare children to look after themselves during the times you aren’t there. Important skills are learned through interactive lessons and role play that help make both you and your child more confident when they are at home alone. First Aid for Kids teaches students how to respond to medical emergencies, such as cuts, burns, choking or broken bones. This course is packed full of advice, guides, tips, and information based on real life experiences, from kids and experts in the know. The Babysitter’s Training program has tons of activities and hands-on practice to increase student confidence and provide skills needed to be the best babysitter possible. This course is 7 hours long so please send a lunch for their lunch break. Beginner projects may include items such as a polar bear, mouse, hound dog, etc. Intermediate and advanced will focus on a caricature cowboy carving. We have a limit of 10 people so be sure to register early. There will be lessons on how to “let the water do the work” to create fall leaves, flowers, birch trees, window scenes and other seasonal small prints. We will be using watercolour paper with special effects and adding fine details to finish. The intermediate class will include small prints with some wet on wet techniques for creating atmospheric watercolors. It would be beneficial if you have already taken the beginner class to learn more about creating simple but beautiful prints. All the materials, brushes, and supplies are provided. Drop-ins are welcome to see what each class is about. This is for ages 10 +. Drop-ins are $15/class to cover materials. Bring your camera and learn important skills such as camera care, exposure modes, aperture, shutter, metering, depth of field, night photography, macro and flash photography. The moves are gentle on the body, yet provide a low-impact workout and offer a lot of fun with fellow dancers. All ladies are welcome! Professional dance instructors from DancEgypt in Saskatoon will be coming out to teach this year. They will provide instruction on technique, culture, and music of Egyptian dance. Participants need to wear comfortable exercise clothes, (yoga pants and tee, shorts and tank, etc.) and bring a fringed shawl or sparkly scarf to tie around the hips. We usually dance barefoot, but gymnastic type slippers are also acceptable. Come for the fitness, come for the fun! No class Nov. 10. How about learning something new with your significant other or a group of friends? Are you new to Martensville? Well, then this is the place for you! A different dance will be taught in two week intervals. You will learn enough of the basic patterns to have you feeling comfortable on the dance floor at the next wedding or holiday party you attend! You will be able to have a say in what dances are learned every week. Some styles of dance that you will be able to select four dances from are Waltz, Foxtrot, Jive, Two Step, Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa, and Night Club Two Step. An explanation and demo of dances will be offered at the first class. No previous dance experience is required. Introduction to Restorative Yoga Experience yoga in the most restful way by centering your breath and body by using props in a more passive way. Restorative yoga provides healing for the body and mind by using the props to experience the ultimate in support and comfort. Rest, renew and de-stress in this class. We will do a gentle practice which will go through poses and will assist you in relieving tight muscles in your neck and back with gentle stretching. Pose variations will be given. Skate Martensville is an association dedicated to the principles of enabling individuals to participate in skating for fun, fitness and/or achievement. If you want to introduce your children to a healthy life-long sport, Skate Martensville is for you! CanHockey is a program designed for 4 year olds who have some skating experience and can’t wait to hit the ice in their hockey gear. This program focuses on basic skating skills needed for the sport of hockey; forward skating, balance, stopping, and backward skating. Put on that favorite jersey, shoulder pads, hockey pants, helmet and learn the fundamentals of hockey skating. CanHockey packages are available to skate once or twice per week and sessions run on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 6:00pm-6:45pm. CanSkate is Skate Canada’s learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. The CanSkate program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. CanSkate participants earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills. CanSkate lessons are given in a group format led by our NCCP certified coaching staff using teaching aids, music and activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. CanSkate packages are available to skate once or twice per week and sessions run on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 6:00pm-6:45pm. A PreCanSkate program is available for skaters age 3-4 with no skating experience which runs from 6:15pm-6:45pm on Tuesdays or Thursdays. STARSkate has been the mainstay of figure skating in Canada for more than four decades. The STARSkate program is for those more advanced skaters wanting to move into figure skating. Skate Canada’s STARSkate program offers opportunities for skaters to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating. Valley Riding Club The Sask Valley Riding Club was formed in 1996 and is made up of members of all ages, promoting a family atmosphere. The club holds several events throughout the year to support causes or charities that are of special interest to its members including the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation, the Equine Health Research Fund, and Breast Cancer Research. Some of the events organized include fun gymkhanas, poker rally’s, and the Telemiracle Pony Express 8-Day Ride. In addition, we coordinate various riding clinics for club members throughout the year and take part in as many local parades as we can. Weekly winter riding was added in 2011. Both English and Western riders can enjoy some of the advantages of membership, including access to our library which contains an assortment of training videos and books. As a club we enjoy spending time with other people, both riders and nonriders alike, that share our interest in horses. In doing so, we are given a chance to learn from each other and the various experts we have contact with along the way. Our goals include helping each other, helping our horses and helping our community.
