The 2014 EYE International Film Catalogue gives
full details about the bumper crop of high quality features, shorts (narrative as well as experimental and animated) and feature-length and
short documentaries from The Netherlands. The
catalogue is a record of the works and talents of
Dutch directors and producers, both established
and emerging, whose ambitious and thoughtprovoking films deserve attention from international festivals, distributors and audiences alike.
EYE International exists as a one-stop shop that
offers a wide range of services to the global film
community. We promote our broad range of
home-grown products to festival programmers,
journalists and buyers worldwide, as well as keep
the global industry updated on all aspects of the
Dutch industry. We match-make international

The friendship that develops seems nothing out of the

Twenty years after the end of the sixties, Bob, a tennis
instructor and father of two, finally comes face to face
with all of that decade’s temptations when a free-minded resident moves into their block. But how much
‘freedom’ can he handle? Meanwhile Duch, his 12year-old son, indulges his own secret passions: space
travel and a lonely Valium addicted woman next door.

island of Texel, criminal Frans Weeling realises he is
but a mere link in the vast chain of the universe.

Lieve and Elias are first-year students and best friends.
Lieve is the ideal sorority girl. Unfortunately, Elias is in
love with her. Together they go to the huge and messy
first-year enrolment party. Just as the police arrive and
try stop the party, Lieve takes off with older lawyer
Bram, a man nostalgic for his student days, Elias feels

Soof is approaching her forties and has all she ever
dreamed of: wonderful kids, a small catering company
and a great husband in Kasper. But the transformation
of her garden house begins to take its toll. And then
she meets the divine choreographer Jim. Suddenly
Soof begins to wonder if Kasper really is the fiercely
attractive man she fell in love with. The more she tries
to get a grip on her life, the more it seems to derail.
Samir was born in Holland as the son of a Moroccan
father and a Dutch mother. After graduating from
Police Academy, he craves the approval of his employers and determines to infiltrate a Moroccan drugs family to prove his worth. But as he becomes more and
more part of the family, Samir is confronted with the
long-suppressed feelings he has at home. The family
turns out to be not so clear-cut bad as he thought, and
the police are not as upright as they make out…

Daan, a delicatessen owner, is not amused when stuckup Katje opens her high fashion store across the street.
When Katje starts to fall for his charming personality
and delicious food, Daan stoically rejects all her efforts
to connect. But in order to show him the real girl
beneath her fashion persona she sends him a message
with a fake online dating profile. Daan enjoys the correspondence with this sensitive, witty girl, but when he
wants to meet in person, things get complicated.
Nursing Home Zonnedael has been shut down and the
psychiatric in-patients Bep Brul, the Major, Fats, Mrs.
de Haas and Dr. Doolittle are re-introduced into society against their wishes. The kind Nurse ten Hoeven is
grieving as her main purpose in life has gone. To make
matters worse, she is kidnapped. When the patients
hear of this they immediately embark on a mad and
risky rescue mission, which reveals the incredible truth
behind the kidnapping.

Two bankers drag their families into the wilderness for
a camping holiday. They end up stranded beside a forest pool where the supernatural creature Jenny Green
Teeth is slumbering. She sees a potential soul mate in
adolescent Jan, but she must test him first. As the families’ veneer of civilization evaporates under Jenny’s
cruel torments, Jan finds himself torn between beautiful Emilie, with whom he is hopelessly in love, and the
wild and powerful Jenny down in her cold underwater
nest.
During a picnic, two nieces plan to ‘kidnap’ Pim and
Pom. The cats escape, but they must survive by roaming the streets. When they meet a gang of alley cats,
Pim falls under the spell of the gangleader, but Pom
doesn’t want to obey the rules of the gang, so she
leaves. But then Pom finds out that their worried
owner is searching for them. Can everybody be happily
re-united, and can the alley cats help achieve this?

Based on a true story. Lucia has been present at one

up with Lucia’s lawyer, but the guilty verdict is confirmed. Things look bleak until they get the media

falls head-over-heels in love with the sophisticated and

test me as a filmmaker. I’m interested in the people
who feel compelled to cross them and the guards dedicated to protecting them, according to the laws of the
country and the continent in which they are located.
Ingrid, Vicky and Sabrina cope with breast cancer in
various forms. Their tough and painful treatments are
at an uncertain stage on the journey towards hoped-for
recovery. Their self-esteem is deeply affected, their
sense of femininity eroded. They feel damaged and
insecure. AWAKE IN A BAD DREAM shows in a very personal and intimate way how the women and their partners
try to hold onto life again after diagnosis.

The main characters in THE CHIMPANZEE COMPLEX are
two traumatized chimpanzees who, after years in solitary captivity, must learn to live with members of their
own species again. The carers who oversee this vulnerable process work towards a paradoxical utopia: as people they are determined to let the animals be animals
again. Emotional confrontations and ethical issues
emphasize the ambiguous relationship between man
and primate.
After the Japanese capitulation at the end of WW2,
most of the approximately 350,000 (Indonesian) Dutch
people who lived in the ‘Dutch East Indies’ were the victims of looting and killings by Indonesian nationalists.
After more than 70 years of silence, these so-called
‘Buitenkampers’ tell their hidden history for the first

A portrait of a man with a boundless passion. Smeets
is a control freak, for 45 years in charge of the oldest
pop festival in the world, Pinkpop. "Pinkpop is his
life," says his granddaughter Kim. "He will only stop
when he is dead". Mick Jagger comments on the legendary Pinkpop 1979, when he refused to join Peter
Tosh on stage, driving Jan Smeets to tears. The frustration of that moment is still as vivid as it was then.

Waagenaar, a bon-vivant, who many times changed the
course of his life, successfully moving from film industry work in the thirties to journalist, singer, actor, war

Waagenaar’s unpublished autobiography. With a voiceover he reflects on his life, and on a tendency towards

Belgian village, Flemish Bob and Walloon Marcel share
their solitude, their sense of humour and their craving

dream is to build a house for themselves, so they buy a
few bricks every day…
A growing group of illegal prostitutes from West Africa
settle in the suburbs of major European cities. They
come to escape poverty, but for most of them the
European adventure is a disappointment that ends
when they fly back home empty-handed. The film listens to the women talk about their adventure and
shows how two build a new life after they return to
Nigeria. The film is not just a plea for their resilience
but also an expression of it.

DUTCH FEATURE AND DOCUMENTARY FILM PRODUCTIONS
supported by the Netherlands Film Fund and released theatrically
may receive further support to cover international distribution and
dubbing costs.
Dutch features with a production budget under € 3.000.000, feature
length and documentaries with a budget up to € 600.000 and films
selected for international festivals as listed in the overview International festivals, can apply for international distribution support and
dubbing support.
DISTRIBUTION SUPPORT FOR:
International theatrical release of Dutch features and documentaries,
outside the Netherlands by a foreign distributor in a maximum of two
countries. The Film Fund can match up to 40% of the total costs with
a maximum amount of € 10.000 per film production.
DUBBING SUPPORT FOR:
Dubbing of Dutch feature films to enable international distribution
by a foreign distributor or sales agent. The Film Fund can match up
to 50% of the total costs with a maximum amount of € 20.000 per
production. Dutch youth films are given priority treatment. Only costs
that are not already covered by the Fund, by EYE International or third
parties are eligable.
