DearGuest
Step inside - into a new oasis at Grand Hotel in Egersund! We have expanded our hotel, and it is with pride that we
open the doors to our new rooms, meeting rooms, and event venues. We’ve furnished our hotel with respect for
tradition and love for the city of Egersund. We believe both locals and guests will see this reflected in details around
the hotel as well as the whole hotel experience. Welcome to Grant Hotel in Egersund: Our hotel is your hotel!
Herman Danielsen started Hotel Jæderen in early in 1878 at Johan Feyer gate 3 in Egersund.
By February 27 the same year, he hosted a large event for the opening of Jærbanen (the train line
to Egersund).
In May 1896 there was an extensive fire in the quarter, which consumed Hotel Jæderen. Out of this
disaster, Danielsen decided to take the opportunity to construct a new and more modern building.
The new hotel was named Grand Hotel and opened its doors in 1897.
Grand Hotel was again plagued by fire, in Easter of 1926. Two people were killed and the building was
destroyed. The hotel was again rebuilt a year later, this time in brick. During the occupation in WWII,
the hotel was requisitioned by a German commander, who established his headquarters there.
Grand Hotel survived and flourished, through different eras and under different owners and
changing conditions and challenges. Today, Grand Hotel illustrates various architectural styles, as well
Dragon and Swiss chalet style from the late 1800s, Functionalism of the ‘30s, as well as
Postmodernism from the 2000s. In recent years, several neighboring houses were purchased and
— with gentle, antiquarian handwork — built into the Grand Hotel as it appears today.
History
Grand Hotel’s history
The town of Egersund has agricultural land right in our own neighborhood, so there is no shortage of
fresh produce, meat, and dairy from our local farmer friends.
First and foremost, however, Egersund is a coastal town. Egersund has been one of the country’s largest
fishing ports for a long time. Something you obviously don’t want to miss on the hotel’s menu is our
fresh seafood!
Or as the islanders say when they catch a lobster in crab pot out of season:
“Då må me jo hiva di i vatnet. Og det gjorde eg. Og ‘an blei rø’ med ei gong!”
(Then we have to throw it back in the water. Which I did. And it turned red immediately!)
Grand Restaurant offers the best and most delicious food Egersund has to offer in our bright, cheerful
corner right in the heart of the city!
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, buffet ...? No Problem!
Welcome to Grand Restaurant!

AUDITORIET (Auditorium) is our new top-of-the-line modern meeting room, with comfortable, spacious
chairs and unique elements from the fishing town of Egersund. The carpet, for example, is made from
recycled fishing nets! The auditorium can seat 59 people and everything is placed to facilitate teaching,
lectures and conferences. This was the former location of the city’s old bakery, who would vouch that it
you can make a lot of good things happen here!
LOSEN (the Pilot Room), is located in the basement of the Seglem house. The venue is intimate and
perfect for board meetings, courses and private parties. There is a comfortable lounge with sofas and a
meeting room table made of solid reclaimed logs from the old bakery! Inspiring works from the renowned artist Johan Wittrup and local painter Per Gjemre decorate the walls.
BESTYRELSEN is located in the Swiss building, next door to the Grand Restaurant.
The venue is suitable for parties and courses.

Dear guest! We wish you a pleasant stay at our hotel, where we have renovated and modernized
our hotel rooms while showing the love and respect we have for Egersund’s history. The hotel
consists of ten houses, elegantly stitched together by talented architects and craftsmen with a
sense of safeguarding the old while building the new. In each of the thirty-nine new rooms there
are elements from the old houses that have been preserved. Altogether, we now have 101 bright
and cheerful hotel rooms.
The rooms are modern, but historic elements are preserved and upcycled into modern furniture
and decorations. That way, old log walls from 1846 to 1847 get new life. Discover historic tile,
wallpaper, and other details throughout the hotel.
Grand Terrace: Are you an early bird or night owl? In the mornings on Grand Terrace you can read
newspapers and enjoy a cup of coffee. You can also enjoy a glass of something else later in the
afternoon or evening. The terrace receives sun most of the day, and at the company events can
be used as a gathering place for aperitifs or avec’en (congnac and whiskey). The terrace has about
50 seats and is perfect for a champagne lunch on a summer day!

New, unique rooms
Together with these elements from past eras, you will find exciting furniture designs from Tingbo,
Arne Jacobsen lamps, Secto lamps, modern Muuto interior elements, and more. Our wish is that
this attention to interior details will give you a pleasant and inspiring stay in surroundings that
have character.
During the 133 year-long production period of Egersund Fayancefabrikk (Egersund Pottery
Factory), soot from the factory would make the traditional white houses of Egersund appear dirty.
They were therefore sometimes painted in different colors. We have chosen to do the same with
our houses.
We hope you, as our guest, will feel at home here. As we say in Egersund, “Kosa deg!”
Rooms
Authentic charts from the late 1700s and early 1800s adorn the walls of rooms and corridors.
These were used on board Theodor Nordaas’ ships, and have crossed all the oceans. Nordaas lived
in Strandgaten 61, one of our ten houses, and we have dedicated a suite in honor of him.

Restaurant and events
If you have to stammer your way through a speech, you should at least not have to worry about
the venue, food, and service for your wedding, graduation, fiftieth birthday, or anniversary to be
successful. We can even customize the menu to your preferences. We have years of experience in
arranging events and we are happy to work with you to tailor your event so that it will be a
memorable experience, for the rest of your life.
GRAND RESTAURANT has a menu based on local ingredients and inspired by Norwegian
culinary traditions. Please contact us for more information!
GRAND VINKJELLER (Wine Cellar) is our intimate and atmospheric venue. It’s perfect for groups
from 7 to 22 people who want a culinary experience with wine pairings and their own waiter.
Our chefs focus on local food to pair with a wine menu. Wine racks, sofa, fireplace, and candlelight
create a great atmosphere for a brilliant night!
Grand Vinkjeller is also suited for Christmas parties. You can start the evening in Grand Vinkjeller for
aperitifs and appetizers. Then you can move to the neighboring room for the Christmas entertainment. Then, your guests can take their seats back in Grand Vinkjeller for the main course and dessert
enjoyed with delicious wine. In the Wine Cellar, we offer 3-7 course menus with accompanying
wines and wine tasting. Mmmm!

Our city
A hotel in the
heart of the city
Dear guests! We feel that the people of Egersund appreciate that Grand Hotel has increased its
capacity without detracting from our city’s beauty. On the contrary, the hotel is a natural part of the
setting here. We want our newly acquired buildings to be treated in a way that we can continue to
be a hotel for, and in, Egersund’s heart. Our hotel is made up of, and surrounded by, the old wooden
buildings which we are so proud of in Egersund. Our city’s beautiful old church is right across the
street. It’s also only a hop, skip, and a jump to the harbor, which has always been the city’s main
artery – although it is no longer as hectic as it was during the time of the great “sildefisket” (herring
fishing period).
If you want to know more about the “Okka by,” we recommend that you tour the Berentsens Brygghus or Egersund Chocolate Factory. We can also organize sailing trips, offer wine tasting, and
recruit local entertainers to perform at your party - Please disturb!
And welcome to Egersund!
