would entail in SDM

Service provider appointed in August 2008
PSC of Technical Study established in August 2008
Functional IGR structure established in late 2007
Posts advertised in Sept 2008 for Director : Environment and
Manager : Air Quality Management
SDM has trained 14 EHPs in 2007 in basic AQM at the Univ. of Jo’burg
SDM has procured the Technical Advisor: UEMP in 2007.
Launched the DEAT/DME Clean Fires Campaign in July 08

Expected Completion of Technical Study Dec 2008

Implementation of recommendations: from Jan ‘09

WAY FORWARD: CONTINUED…….
To assist in addressing our capacity issues, we are proposing that….
Establishment of the “Air Quality Governance Academy” be considered.
This would build on the success of the 2008 Lekgotla and AQO Forums
…. but on a sustainable basis.
Focus on the long-term professional development of officials in the AQM
area.
Done through training and research.
We are offering to host it in Sedibeng as a laboratory for the types of
issues we are continuously be facing.
