thank you!
thank you for your trust in Berks catholic High school. thank you for believing in our
mission to teach the Gospel values. your partnership with us keeps that mission vibrant and
our future bright.
the inaugural year of Berks catholic is in the books. We have sent the saints of 2012 off into
the world to accomplish great things. in the class of 2012; we have students discerning the
priesthood and religious life, 96% of them have continued their education in college and
collectively were awarded over 10 million dollars in academic and merit scholarships. some of
the class of 2012 have entered the military, technical schools, and are exploring gap years
involving service. they have blazed the trail for many future saints to follow. as Berks catholic
was formed we based our foundation on four pillars: God, family, academics and fun.
our students have grown spiritually by attending mass as a community, performed thousands
of hours of service, attended retreats and are discerning what vocation the lord is calling
them toward.
our students have grown closer as a Berks catholic family by enthusiastically supporting
each other at sporting events, music, art and various other competitions. more importantly
they have experienced all of the emotions that a close family feels love, anger, laughter, tears,
joy, heartache, courage and fear. our Baccalaureate mass at st. catharine’s was a beautiful
sign of our spiritual family. our cheering section at the sovereign center for the county Boys
Basketball championship, the class trip to six flags or dorney park, the prom and the
production of The Sound of Music are all examples of what family is all about; being there
for each other, being filled with emotions and experiencing all that is in God’s plan for us,
“one in christ, unum in christo”.
in our first year we have focused on God, family and academics and have had a great deal of
fun doing it all. our students have encountered Jesus in fun unique ways through retreats,
dress down days, ski trips, clubs, spirit week and catholic schools Week which culminated in
saints day. late in april our saints enjoyed a beautiful prom at stokesay castle, they won 8
division championships, 2 county championships, 1 district title and 2 district runner-ups,
and made runs toward state championships in multiple sports. We have had nine athletes
sign division i and ii national letters in Basketball, diving, lacrosse, tennis and Volleyball,
and many other student athletes will continue their career at the division iii level. it has been
an amazing year of growth for all involved in the Berks catholic family.
i am eager to continue my journey with the saints at Berks catholic. i am convinced that your
investment in Berks catholic produces young men and women who will be catalysts for good
wherever they live. i thank you for being a believer and a partner in our mission. your prayers,
financial support and encouragement make the success of our mission a reality. Go saints!
Sincerely,
Tony Balistrere

dear alumni, parents, and friends,
it has been a privilege getting to know all of you throughout the year. i am so grateful
and honored to say that i was a part of Berks catholic High school’s first year and i
look forward to the future here at Berks catholic. this 2011-2012 annual report is a
celebration of philanthropy and catholic education.
thank you to all of you who played a part in this incredibly successful year. We are
truly blessed by the support of hundreds of benefactors who believe in our mission
of educating students in a christ-centered environment with a focus on academic
excellence. the class of 2012 received over $10.3 million in scholarships and 96%
of them are continuing their education at a two- or four-year college.
Berks catholic High school has the incredibly important responsibility of providing
opportunities for young men and women to see things through the lens of christian
leadership, stewardship, and service to God’s people. Berks catholic provides the
platform for a transformational experience for our students, and you, our generous
benefactors, provide the resources for us to build that platform.
on behalf of our administration, faculty, staff and, of course, our students, please
accept my heartfelt gratitude for making our mission possible. We look forward to
your continued partnership as we build on a strong foundation of catholic
traditions, academic excellence, spiritual growth, community outreach, and
athletic competitiveness.
the saints fund is the cornerstone of philanthropic giving at Berks catholic High school. the saints fund is a
dependable source of unrestricted gifts that can be applied to the areas of greatest need. student scholarships and
financial aid, curriculum enhancement, athletics, and arts and music resources are just some examples of support
provided by the fund. it is vital that the saints fund continues to grow in order for Berks catholic to be able to
provide an excellent education in a christ-centered environment to students in Berks county.

extravaganza was held on friday and saturday, october 7 and 8, 2011 at Berks catholic High school. this annual
two-day event is our biggest social fundraiser that both celebrates and advances the mission of Berks catholic High
school. We began on friday evening with preview night where parents, alumni and friends bid on silent auction
items and the homeroom basket auction. on saturday evening, the dinner and live auction was held, which
included hors d’oeuvres, open bar, silent and live auctions, raffle drawing, music and entertainment. the co-chairs
were John and terry stelmach, and tim and sue yoder. extravaganza was a great success and raised over $231,000,
of which $114,000 was raised through the emotional appeal for the endowed scholarship fund at Berks
catholic. all funds raised at extravaganza go directly back into the school.
extravaganza provides a great opportunity for members of the Berks catholic community to come together to
celebrate the mission and vision of Berks catholic.
Financial Report
extravaganza income - $310,573 | extravaganza expenses - $78,621
net income - $231,951 | less emotional appeal - $114,044 | true net income - $117,906
