1.3
Scope of application
This edge feeder may be used on its own or together with other edge bander units, with programmable logical controller (named PLC in the following).
1.4
Operation
The purpose of the edge feeder is to hold edging material, either in cut lengths or in coiled form, feed
it to the workpiece by means of a transport belt and cut it to length if from a coil.
Change--over between cut lengths or coiled strip is effected by means of the selector keys at the operating panel.
End trim plunge and retract cutting points for coiled edging may be set and stored within the program PLC.
The setting to thickness and height of the edging material is effected by manual setting.
The workpiece is placed on a continuously driven conveyer chain with precision--guided and coated plastic links; positively pressed onto these by rubber faced pressure rollers and fed to the edge feeder.
1.5
Intended use
The edge feeder is designed exclusively to feed edging, either in cut lengths or as coiled strip, to the end
grain edges of panels made of wood or similar to wood (chipboard, etc.) previously coated with glue.
For admissible working dimensions see item 1.7.
Any other use or application is considered outside the scope of this definition.
The manufacturer cannot accept liability for resultant damage; the user shall bear the risk alone.

Safety
2
See also operating manual for the basic machine, chapter ”safety”.
2.1
Protective devices
Any danger of injury through contact with the trimming knife is prevented by the protection hood.
2.2
Residual risks
Our machines harbour residual risks that are unavoidable despite the care taken in their design and
manufacture, and that are inherent to operation of the machine.
DANGER
Residual risks are:
Uncovered area between transport chain and raised pressure bridge of the basic machine, as this allows access to the unit tools.
Always keep your hand away from running tools!
Non--covered opening at the trimming knife of the edge feeder in the edge pass area.

Safety
Exceeding the limiting pressure for pneumatic hoses.
Noise and dust emission.
Noise is an ever--present and undesirable feature of our technological environment, which may lead
to the impairment of your health, your efficiency as well as your safety at work.
Wood dust can cause illness, such as skin conditions, respiratory complaints and/or allergic reactions.
Oak and beech dust are under suspicion of causing cancer of the nose. Since these timbers can be
worked using this machine/unit, the provisions of the German regulations governing hazardous substances dated 26.08.1986 must be met.
As a general principle, the machine/unit must never be operated without a dust extraction system. The
factory extraction system must be rated such that the air speed at the connection to the machine is at
least 20 m/s.
The manufacturer of this machine shall not be liable for risks arising from the use of other agents (such
as lubricants or cleaners) or from hooking up the machine to machines or products made by other manufacturers.

General instructions
DANGER
Refer to the chapter ”Safety” during maintenance and inspection work.
Before work is started on the machine, switch OFF the mains supply.
Turn off the main switch -- setting «O» -- and secure with a padlock.
Depressurise the pneumatic supply system! *
Clean the machine/unit daily.
Remove wood chips with a suitable brush or with a saw dust approved extractor system.
Remove any wood left inside, particularly in the area of the spindles and guideways.
DANGER
This will endanger your health!
Because of the fine dust produced, the machine should never be cleaned with
compressed air.
Use extraction system released for wood dust. *
Lightly grease all moving parts, such as sliding surfaces, adjusting spindles and guideways, whenever
required.
Danger to the environment!
Waste material, products used for machine operation, replaced parts or even the entire machine
or unit must only be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way and in accordance with local
waste disposal guidelines and regulations. *
