The RENEWING HEALTH website
2.1
Objective
The objectives of the RENEWING HEALTH website are both to disseminate
information to the public, and to provide a tool for partners through which it is
possible to promote and reach the widest spread of knowledge about the Project
itself. Thus RENEWING HEALTH website’s features are designed for:
 Promotion of the Project's results and information of potential interest to every
target audience.
 Proper communication addressing.
 Information exchange needs.
 Provide assisting tools reserved for the partners.
The RENEWING HEALTH website goals are to reach a multiple set of target
audiences, and keep them updated with the latest results achieved by the Project.
2.2
Target
The RENEWING HEALTH website is designed to meet the needs of the different
kinds of users who will visit the website.
According to the Dissemination Plan (see deliverable D2.1), the Public Area of the
website will be implemented paying particular attention to the following target
audiences:
 National and Regional Health Authorities, Healthcare Providers and Social
Service Departments.
 Patients and their associations.
 Professionals, their associations and scientific societies.
 Other EU funded projects.
 General public/citizens.
 Private health sector.
There is also a Private Area which is dedicated to the partners of the RENEWING
HEALTH Project; it is viewable only by users with the appropriate authorisation
(username and password).
2.3
Contents and structure
The RENEWING HEALTH website’s contents have been expanded in two directions
during the design phase:
Public

not found.
 A Public Area for the general public, reporting activities to enhance the
Project’s potential dissemination.
 A Private Area for Project partners, to notify, exchange and share the Project's
latest results, documents or drafts between partners.
In this way there are two level of contextual information provided as appropriate.
The website has been designed to raise awareness both about the RENEWING
HEALTH Project, and also the work packages that constitute the Project. In addition,
news and events are reported in a dedicated section.
The scheme reproduced below illustrates the first site map with the arrangement
and distribution of pages.
Figure 1: RH website structure
The colour intensity in the site map represents the level of each webpage. The
relative colour intensity decreases from the top, indicating a deeper level of
navigation through the site.
Green and red areas represent the Public Area and Private Area respectively, with
their own content of web pages. The name of Forum webpage followed by
“underscore” character and “n” stands for multiple pages, with one for every Forum
instance. Each web page’s content is explained in the following sections.
2.3.1
The Public Area
The Public Area is for unrestricted dissemination of information that focuses on
every main branch of the Project. Its target includes both the wider public as well as
partners. The pages in the Public Area will include key information about
RENEWING HEALTH, activities, background, news and latest results to keep the
community updated throughout the entire lifecycle of the Project.
The Public Area’s main sections are:
 Project Overview.

these become available.
 Project Structure: describes the hierarchical structure of Project roles with a
Roles linked page.
 Public Doc: holds all public documents available.
The Consortium section has details of all the Consortium partners and associated
organisation, with links to each organisation’s official website. The organisations
include Regions, Competence Centres, Patient and Professional Associations,
Industrial Associations, etc. In each Region's page there is a description of the
Region itself, and a link to the Region’s RENEWING HEALTH Project website.
The News section gathers:
 Latest: lists relevant incoming news.
 Press Room: collects together RENEWING HEALTH Project related articles
published in newspapers, magazines, scientific journals and on the web.
 Video: includes a list, with links, of video clips about the RENEWING HEALTH
Project.

2.3.2
The Private Area
The Private Area represents the main tool by which partners disseminate
information about project activities between themselves; this allowing the flow of
information and updating of activities among all partners. The Private Area includes
further information about RENEWING HEALTH Project and Consortium’s activities.
This area covers Work Packages, Clusters’ draft documents, confidential
documents, and contact details.
The aim of the Private Area is to provide a useful and helpful collection of
publications, documents and drafts of specific interest to partners. In particular this
area can be used to accomplish the telemonitoring assessments, and to facilitate
exchange of technical documents.
The Private Area represents a section itself, and has the following web pages:
 Private Doc: collects all restricted documents, accessible through a WP page
and a Clusters page. This section represents a way through which partners
can access the Project's material.
Other strategic guides to good practice and proper methodological procedures
are kept available on MAST and Continua guidelines website.
 Project Meetings: includes a list of the meetings and the workshops held or
to be held in the future and other scheduled working activities. Once partners
have planned the event coming up, it will be displayed in this area. Each event
will be described with its purpose, agenda and organisation if appropriate, and
other relevant features and achievements. Since RENEWING HEALTH also
plans some dissemination events, public workshops and meetings are also
shown in the Event web page of the Public Area, and on the left side bar of the
RENEWING HEALTH homepage.
 Private Features: allows work management and communication among the
partners by providing a videoconferencing tool placed in the Videoconference
web page (See Appendix B).
 Upload: thanks to this web page, all authorised user can upload documents;
all submitted documentation will be assigned to the appropriate RENEWING
HEALTH website destination area. This web page allows the submission of
documents and drafts from partners. Information may include, for instance,
advice on how to follow standard guidelines properly, how to apply them and
conduct the trials.
 Forum: provides a discussion tool with a customisable number of Forum_n
pages.
Reserved to European Commission, PO & Reviewers Private Area collects all
submitted deliverables that are meant to be evaluated at each annual review.

2.4
Technical aspects and layout
The RENEWING HEALTH website has been developed with a flexible structure to
allow the addition of web pages, features and sections.
2.4.1
Initial configuration
As in many scientific fields, web-based communication is the main dissemination
instrument. This aspect has been taken into account in the RENEWING HEALTH
website design phase.
At the initial stage, a baseline first version RENEWING HEALTH website was made
available to supply general information. This initial launch of the RENEWING
HEALTH website was done using simple static HTML.
However, this first version of RENEWING HEALTH website has been replaced by a
dynamic and optimised new revised version.
2.4.2
Platform and web engine
The RENEWING HEALTH website uses a flexible and elegant Web Content
Management System platform called Platinum, developed by OMNYS Information
Technology (www.omnys.com, see Figure 2).
Figure 2: Platinum platform
The use of a CMS supports either static or dynamic content, together with website
management, by providing a graphical user interface. Platinum permits the
management of public and classified documents using a handle structure, and
supports manipulation of the Project's website with a highly intuitive tree structure
and organisation as shown in Figure 3 below.

Operator types and functions:
 Administrators: write and publish all the portal content, including creating,
modifying and deleting any object on the portal. They assign which operators
will be Workflow Managers for each node of the structure, and which other
operators will be enabled or not for modifications.
 Workflow Managers: manage the nodes assigned to them, write and publish
contents, and validate any document modified, created or deleted by other
qualified operators. They are effectively responsible for what will be displayed
on the site. In addition, they have the possibility to assign Enabled Operators
to write in the nodes for which they are responsible.
 Enabled Operators: create, modify and cancel content within a node, but who
do not have the possibility to publish the content.

Appendix B - RENEWING HEALTH
Videoconferencing system
The screen based communication tool allows enhanced information exchange
among partners. It represents a time saving solution for RENEWING HEALTH
Project. The amount of work as well as the increasing need for partners at different
location to communicate (without travelling to attend meetings) makes this system
highly necessary. This system transmits information quickly in order to gather all
data to complete each Work Package and to improve the efficiency of each partner
and performed task.
The service is provided by Italtel with Spontania platform.
Spontania platform
The Italtel Spontania platform is based on a client-server architecture and allows
unlimited users at the same time session using scalability upgrades.

Appendix D: RENEWING HEALTH Website forum
The purpose of the RENEWING HEALTH website forum is to provide a partner
discussion platform. The Forum web page is a way by which partners can share with
each other what they are discussing (see Figure 38). A partner may add a new
forum thread, answer questions, get up-to-date on upcoming solutions to a Project
discussion, and eventually give interesting contributions or else bring into question
contents.
