Since the dawn of time, all civilizations had two things in common. They gazed skyward to marvel at the secrets of the cosmos, and they made beer. Myths and legends were born as mortals sipped their brew and watched comets blaze across the evening sky and stars dance throughout the heavens. The ancients believed paradise existed at the highest point in the universe, a fiery sphere they called the Empyrean. © Empyrean Brewing Co. 1990: Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill is founded. Head Brewer Rich Chapin begins converting his award-winning homebrew recipes for the restaurant. 1991: The grand opening of Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill, the first brewpub in Nebraska. Approximately 500 barrels of beer were sold during the inaugural year. 1997: Empyrean Brewing Co. becomes a separate business from the brew pub. 1998: Capacity increases to 2,500 barrels a year with 70 draft accounts in Omaha and Lincoln. 1999: Bottling begins. Empyrean Brewing Co. is the first Nebraska craft brewery to bottle beer. Third Stone Brown, LunaSea ESB and Chaco Canyon appear on store shelves. 2001: A new brew house is built. © Empyrean Brewing Co. 2002: Empyrean becomes the first Nebraska brewer to distribute statewide. Burning Skye Scottish Ale is added to the lineup. 2004: New record set of 2,850 barrels sold. 2006: LunaSea ESB wins silver in the Extra Special Bitter category at the World Beer Cup. 2008: Distribution expands to Iowa. 2009: Distribution grows in Iowa and expands to North and South Dakota. 2010: Distribution expands to the Colorado Front Range. Capacity grows to 6,000 barrels per year. 2011: Began bottling seasonal brands and redesigned packaging. 2013: Added Domino Effect Transition Ale fall seasonal. © Empyrean Brewing Co.
