Here we all are again, in glorious Sentosa
Cove, for the biggest and most exciting
Singapore Yacht Show yet!
Due the huge success of last year’s event,
we have attracted some truly stunning yachts
to ONE°15 Marina Club for this year’s show,
and we are proud to be able to say that it will
undisputedly be Asia’s largest ever display of
superyachts, boats and marine leisure craft.
It’s wonderful to have such a great lineup of truly beautiful yachts, ready to intrigue
and inspire a brand new audience, and incite
them to take up the yachting lifestyle. Some of
these boats have come a long way to be here
in the stunning cruising grounds of South East
Asia, which so many veteran yacht owners
from around the globe are only just beginning
to discover for the first time.
We’ve in fact got a fantastic turnout of every
kind of boat, yacht, and on-water craft that will
appeal to everyone, from the seasoned yacht
owner to the those who are new to recreational
boating – it’s a true celebration of water sports,
lifestyle and on-water luxury.
Meanwhile on land, we have Singapore’s
largest-ever gathering of some of the world’s
best-known supercars and luxury cars – some
of which will be arriving in convoy to make
a spectacular display over the weekend
– together with a display of classic cars as
a precursor to our forthcoming Concours
d’Elégance, planned for later in the year.
Complementing all this we have displays of
fine art, luxury property, fine wines and fashion.
There’s plenty to keep all the family
entertained. By night, the marina will glitter with
the many glamorous private parties aboard
participating yachts, whilst the bustling bars
and eateries of Quayside Isle, ONE°15 Marina
Club, and the W Singapore –Sentosa Cove will
send the festive atmosphere into overload.
Our wonderful exhibitors, without whom all
this would not be possible, have come from
all over the world to present their amazing
vessels to the very high calibre of visitors
that the show continues to attract, and I’m
pleased to welcome so many of the yachting
industry’s biggest players to our event, some
for the first time.
Equally important are our sponsors and
show partners – again, the show can’t go on
without them, and we are extremely grateful
for all the support we receive.
Over the next four days, I look forward to
joining you at some point to celebrate the
Singapore Yacht Show’s most successful
event yet!

Couples seeking the ultimate in luxury can now explore the
Indonesian Archipelago aboard a traditional sailing vessel built
just for two. With one expansive cabin, cruises on 31m Alexa by
Talika Oazia are flexible and tailored to each couple’s wishes,
from surfing in Sumbawa to trekking Komodo National Park.
Alexa’s design mixes the traditional and the new, with refinished
original teak, glass and sleek stainless steel, primitive sculpture
and well-chosen antiques. Of traditional Phinisi (pi-ni-si) boat
design, Alexa once carried cargos of spices between Sumba,
Flores, Sumbawa and Sulawesi, and is now docked in Flores.
The ship’s seven crew includes a dive-instructor cruise director,
a resident spa therapist, private chef and captain with
15 years’ navigating experience.

of his inspirations for building his
yacht.

When I travelled around the world
on my 34m motoryacht in the mid 90s,
I resolved to build the ideal expedition
yacht, particularly to cruise the Pacific.
For the new ‘Exuma’, we needed all the
useful attributes of explorer yachts but
with the addition of fuel efficiency and
shallow water access, without the typical
ugliness of expedition yachts. We would
have superior sonar, an amphibious Jeep
to bring guests ashore to islands and atols
devoid of harbours, and an upper deck
passerelle for disembarking at commercial
docks. She also had to be kept under 50m
and 500 gross tonnes.
Do you want just to look at an enticing
beach … or do you want to go to that
beach? The usual ‘explorer’ will bring you
within sight of an island but it will be unable
to enter the lagoon or to bring the guests
to the beach without making them jump
into waist-high water. ‘Exuma’ can anchor
closer to the shore, and allow you to land
on the beach with the amphibious Jeep
and start exploring.
When I discovered Philippe Briand’s first
Vitruvius® project I was struck by its beauty
and similarity to the ‘long, lean and light’
hull designs of Tom Fexas. I immediately
understood that Philippe was about to
achieve considerable fuel consumption
and CO2 emission reductions.
So I volunteered to have a very special
motoryacht designed by a team that
had never designed a motoryacht! And
Philippe and I chose Perini Navi to build
her, although at that point their yards had
never built a motoryacht. My gamble was
that people who design or build sailing
yachts painstakingly strive for ultimate hull
efficiency with minimal drag, whereas
motoryacht designers and builders usually
do not care much about this issue.
It is a great pleasure to see that the
gamble has paid off in an amazing way.
‘Exuma’s fuel consumption and CO2
emissions are much lower than expected,
and she has been awarded the Green Plus
Platinum certificate (the highest calibre
green certificate a yacht can achieve)
and the Green Yacht of the Year award by
the Italian classification society RINA.
‘Exuma’ was built by Perini Navi’s Picchiotti
brand and is available for charter
exclusively with Fraser Yachts.
M/Y ‘Exuma’ is located in Berth 04a.
