also has phone service, cable TV and
wireless internet.
The kitchen and bath both boast
porcelain slate flooring and exquisite
golden Italian granite counters. The
kitchen is fully equipped with top
of the line appliances, including a
full-size smooth top range with oven,
microwave, full-size refrigerator,
dishwasher and washer/dryer set. Real
wood cabinets are beautifully finished
in a warm, maple stain. Inside, large
pull-out shelf trays are fully stocked
with cookware, dishes, glasses &
eating utensils.
The bathroom houses a large frameless
glass-enclosed shower with one ceilingmount rainfall and two wall-mount
shower heads, a wall-mounted lighted
make-up mirror, a solid maple wood
wardrobe and a private water closet.
Each bedroom was designed with
ultimate comfort in mind, from our
enormous pillow-top mattresses to
the hand-carved leather accented
headboards. We ensure you a restful

I
It gives me great pleasure to have this
opportunity to share with you some
exciting events that have and will occur
within the Welk company.
In San Diego, the first 16 two-bedroom
units in Mountain Villas have opened
with rave reviews. Fairway Pines Drive,
a new access road, has opened to allow
accessibility to the new association.
Set high up on the mountain side,
our first occupants were delighted by
the beautiful décor of the cabin-style
villas and spectacular mountain and
golf course views. The next phase will
open late Fall 2008 and will include 24
two-bedroom villas. The 25,000 sq. ft.
Preview and Mountain Villa recreation
center are anticipated to open late 2008
and will accommodate a large number
of owners and guests. Amenities will
include an extensive recreation facility
that is approximately 2,000 sq ft inside
and outside which includes a Kid’s Club,
games, pool table and fitness center,
lagoon pool with zero edge, decks with
flagstone, rock features with waterfall,
children’s water play area, water feature,
sunning decks, cabanas, grotto Jacuzzi, fire
pit, and barbeque areas. The lagoon pool
is 6,000 + sq. ft. and the children’s water
amenities include a Super Slide (130ft in
length 17.1 ft in height). This resort project,
once completed, will include a total of 148
two-bedroom villas.
I am pleased to announce that Javier Ochoa
was recently appointed Sous Chef at Canyon
Grille Restaurant in Welk Resorts San Diego.
Javier comes to us with an honor’s degree
from Arizona’s Scottsdale Culinary Institute
and a wealth of experience in the Food
and Beverage industry. Javier has already
distinguished himself by making several
changes to theatre buffet and is looking at
cooking up some new recipes to offer in the
restaurant that will surely wet your appetite.
Using the strengths of Welk’s Purchasing
Department to get the best pricing, we
were able to secure new furnishings for
Welk Resorts – Desert Oasis to include
carpeting, artwork, lighting and bedding
for a refurbishment of the 34 units in the
Bougainvillea Building. Another 30 units in
the Tamarisk Building will follow in January
and we will continue with the remaining
buildings over the next couple years until
all units are complete. With a fresh coat
of paint and the new furnishings, the villas
will have a refreshingly modern feel for our
owners to enjoy.
Welk Resorts continues to support the
“GO GREEN” philosophy. Our resorts have
already implemented programs for the
use of well-water for grounds, recycling of
greens waste, inviting guests to participate
by recycling in their villas and providing
recycle bins at trash sites throughout
the resorts. In San Diego we are working
closely with San Diego Gas and Electric on
several energy saving programs. We have
completed the installation of new HVAC (air
conditioning) systems which operate at a
50% better efficiency rate then the original
system and are also 100% quieter in 55
villas. We are in the process of reducing the
lighting load at Canyon Grille Restaurant
from 75 watts to a more efficient 8 watt
bulb that will produce the same amount
of lighting with less heat and less energy
usage. We are evaluating equipment for
automatic on/off control with built-in photo
cell lighting on the villas exterior patios and
assessing resort and owner impact for an
Energy Management System which will
control the HVAC and lighting in the villas.
So as you can see, we are doing our part
to help to protect the environment. Help us

non-golfing guests have the perfect
opportunity to learn the game of golf
during their vacation. The popular
complimentary golf clinics are held on
Tuesdays (full swing), Wednesdays
(putting), and Thursdays (chipping) each
week from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Pro
Shop. All the equipment is provided,
and no sign-ups are necessary.
Through this instruction, guests learning
the game may want to take advantage
of our beginner’s golf package which
includes everything you will need for
your golf experience: greens fees at the
Oaks Par 3 Course, rental golf clubs,
and a pull cart along with balls and tees.

Executive Course gently winds it’s way

This has been an exciting year thus far
as additional Club properties come on
line. Presently we have Club intervals
at both the Villas on the Greens
and Lawrence Welk Resort Villas in
Escondido, Lawrence Welk Desert
Oasis in Cathedral City and newly
opened Lodges at Timber Ridge in
Branson Missouri. July 18th was the
opening of 16 deluxe two bedroom
units at Mountain Villas in Escondido.
Another 24 two bedroom units will
be coming on line October 2008. In
addition, a beautiful new recreation
center and pool are scheduled for a
late 2008 opening.

1954 High School Reunion
Welk Resorts owners Elaine and David LeFort brought a group of
their friends to Welk Resorts San Diego. They all graduated from
Waltham High School in Waltham, Massachusetts, back in 1954.

be held in Escondido at the Welk Resorts Theatre on October
6th, 2008 beginning at 1:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing all

All owners should be aware that property taxes are not
included in the billing for annual maintenance fees. The bill for
these taxes comes directly from the San Diego County Tax
Assessors office. The first installment of this payment is due
December 10th and the second is due April 10th.
Please note that not in the too distant future that our area
code will change from 760 to 442. This change is expected
to take place in November 2008 with final conversions by

at Mountain Villas
Mr. & Mrs. William Giacone Jr. from
Murrieta, CA were the first owners to stay
at the new Mountain Villas development
in San Diego. They orginally were LWRV
owners who upgraded to VOG and then
subsequently to Mountain Villas. They
really enjoy Welk Resorts and stayed in two
units with their son and adorable 4-yearold granddaughter. They look forward to
the Mountain Villas recreation area being
completed later this fall.

Welk Resort Desert Oasis recently
marked it’s 18th anniversary this past
April and continues to be one of the
premier destinations in the greater
Palm Springs area. Over the past 18
years there have been a variety of
changes implemented to enhance our
Owners’ experiences and satisfaction.
We continued the trend this summer
when the 34 units in the Bougainvillea
building underwent refurbishment.
This project included new furnishings,
carpeting, artwork, lighting, bedding
and paint. In January we will be doing
30 more units in the Tamarisk building
and will continue this project over the
next couple of years until all units have
been completed. This ensures that
the property continues to remain fresh
and inviting.
Did you know that Desert Oasis on
average employs about 65 people?
Of these 65 people 4 have been
at Desert Oasis since day one with
a total 17% having been here 15
years or more. Another 22% of the
employees have been here between
7 and 15 years, and 23% have
been here between 3 and 6 years.
It is this kind of longevity that has
helped Desert Oasis maintain the
consistency in providing top notch
customer service over the past 18

Instructor Steve Creps has proven
himself to be a steady, patient teacher
that has helped all attendees with
their golf game. Cathedral Canyon
Golf and Tennis Club also features
a fully stocked Pro Shop to
accommodate all of your equipment
and apparel needs.
In addition to the golf and tennis,
Cathedral Canyon also has a
wonderful restaurant and lounge. Just
a short walk away from your villa you
can enjoy Breakfast or Lunch 6 days a
week with Brunch on Sundays. They
also offer Friday night Dinners as well
as Wednesday Night Bingo. (Hours

Perhaps one of the best kept secrets
is the Club’s ability to host a variety
of special functions. They handle
meetings, birthdays, anniversaries,
weddings, and quinceañeras to name

Canyon Golf & Tennis Club
Owners can take advantage of discounted pricing
throughout the year at Cathedral Canyon Golf & Tennis
Club. During the month of October when many courses
close for overseeding, we have the luxury of keeping 18 of
the 27 holes open for play at all times.
WRDO owners receive a fantastic $30 rate during October
and a $40 rate for the remainder of 2008 when the
weather is great. Carts are included in the rate. The
golf shop is open daily from 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. For

We are pleased to report that many
improvements were completed during
the first half of 2008 in order to continue
to enhance your vacation experience.
A partial renovation of the first 44 villa
buildings including Riviera, Augusta,
St. Andrews, Pinehurst, Greenbrier and
Pelican Hill was completed in May. That
project included replacement of master
bedroom nightstands and lighting,
touch up and repair of master and lockoff furniture, new electronics, wallpaper
and shutter repairs. In addition, in the
month of May, half of the pool furniture
at Boulder Springs was replaced with
new high quality pieces. In September,
a twin to king bed conversion will take
place in 13 lock-off villas.
The management and operations
teams continually reassess the
condition of the villa interiors and
common area grounds to ensure we
maintain the high standards you have
come to expect.
Congratulations to Mr. Joseph Fromm,
our newly elected Board of Director
and Villas on The Green owner, and to
incumbents, Jon Fredricks and Frances
Yoakem, all of whom were elected
to serve on the Board at the Annual
Owners meeting held August 4, 2008.

Owners Have Options…
2009 is fast approaching! Remember if you plan to give up any of your time at
the Welk Resorts, the program works on a first-in first-out process to be fair to
owners, meaning those who place their time in rental first, will be offered in that
order. If you have one or more nights of your 2008-2009 vacation ownership
time which you are not going to use, you have the option of listing them for
rental to the general public through Welk Resorts Villa Rentals Department. This
program has been extremely successful, and many owners have continued to
use this service year after year. When the vacation nights are successfully rented,
the rental fees will be remitted directly to you less a commission.

We start the moment
you arrive by providing
you with a check-in
packet that includes a calendar of activities
happening at the resort along with maps of
the Welk Resorts San Diego property and
San Diego County.
Concierge Services has discounted tickets
for sale to top attractions such as the San
Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World,
and Legoland. We also arrange day trips
to Mexico. Please note if you plan on
joining the Mexico trip, you must bring your
passport with you. You will not be allowed to
cross the border without it.
Our Concierge Services desk is located in
the lobby and is open between 8:30 a.m.
and 9 p.m., seven days a week.
