for the love of
culture
Culture Days, celebrated annually throughout the final weekend in September, encourages
Canadians of all ages, from coast to coast to coast, to share and embrace culture and
creativity in every conceivable form.
Inspired by Quebec’s 15-year-running and enormously popular les Journées de la culture
and further spurred by Alberta Arts Days, Culture Days was rolled out nationally in
September 2010 and started strong with more than 4,700 activities, attracting over a million
Canadians in communities large and small, spanning every province and territory.
In 2011, Culture Days’ vibrancy was significantly greater, with…
• a 37% increase in activities, approaching 6,000* nationally
• corresponding growth in audience, with total attendance topping 1.2 million
• the addition of dozens of communities, totalling nearly 800*,
representing 30% year-over-year growth
Culture Days has become the largest national cultural movement in Canadian history,
and 2012 promises to be even bigger and better!

• Budding Picassos power up for computer painting lessons in a Vancouver gallery.
• Kids visit a musical petting zoo presented by the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra
where they enjoy a free concert, meet the musicians and make their own
instruments from spare parts.
• Residents of Flin Flon learn how to sculpt caribou hide three dimensionally to
create unique pieces of art in a Caribou Hair Tufting workshop.
• Inspired by the Stratford Shakespeare Festival’s smash hit production of Camelot,
families enjoy sword fights, live music, a hawk demonstration, costume try-ons
and more.
• The NFB Mediatheque in Toronto invites kids to explore the process of animation
by creating their own animated films using plasticine.
• Fiddler Colin Grant leads Cape Bretoners through a traditional Céilidh.
That’s just a tiny sample, a mere six of nearly
6,000 activities that inspired Canadian’s creativity and ignited
regional and national pride throughout Culture Days 2011.
“Because Culture Days helps raise the profile of artists and cultural
organizations of all types in communities across Canada, the movement
provides a tremendous opportunity for businesses to make a valuable
contribution to nurturing Canada’s creative talent and increasing
accessibility to arts and culture.”
– Tom Bogart, Executive Vice-President, Sun Life Financial
“The Globe and Mail is proud to support Culture Days as National Newspaper
Partner and to help showcase the rich and diverse creative talent that
exists throughout the country.”
– Phillip Crawley, Publisher and CEO, The Globe and Mail
what role can
you play?
Following the lead of Sun Life Financial, returning for a third year as Presenting
Sponsor, the support and participation of corporate Canada is essential to Culture
Days’ vitality.
Fueled by individual and community passion, Culture Days is more than free activities, but
points of immense pride for millions of Canadians, reflecting their unique contributions
to our richly diverse cultural fabric.
Aligning with so passionate a national groundswell is sure to result in immeasurable
goodwill for your brand, especially if you climb aboard while awareness and appreciation
of Culture Days among Canadian consumers is still growing.
Culture Days sponsors also benefit from massive, cross-Canada media support. In
2011, a national campaign spanning the CBC, The Globe and Mail and St. Joseph
Communications resulted in over 30 million broadcast, print and online impressions.
Additionally, regional and local media support more than tripled national exposure,
delivering 100 million more impressions.
And since Culture Days resonates strongest at the local level, it represents an ideal
opportunity for your employees to become Culture Days advocates and ambassadors
in their communities.
Culture Days sponsorships are custom-tailored to ensure that activation is fully in
line with your wants and needs.
