“STORY AND PLOT” APRIL 6 SAT ALL DAY WORKSHOP
Tom Vaughan studied at the University of Houston with Broadway legend Jose Quintero and three-time Pulitzer Prize
winner Edward Albee. It was his work as a writer and director in Houston theatre that got him recognized by Hollywood.
He was soon writing screenplays for, among others, Phoenix Pictures, Spelling Films, Rysher Entertainment, TNT, MTV
Films, Castle Rock Entertainment, Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers and Disney/Touchstone.
His productions include BLACKOUT with Jane Seymour for CBS, and CRITICAL ASSEMBLY with Katherine Heigl (Grey's
Anatomy, Knocked up) for NBC. He served as writer as well as Co-Producer on ATOMIC TWISTER with Sharon
Lawrence and DEAD IN A HEARTBEAT with Penelope Anne Miller and Judge Reinhold, both for TBS. His feature film
debut was UNSTOPPABLE, starring Wesley Snipes. In 2011, he completed his directorial debut, PLAYING HOUSE
based on a script written with Kristy Dobkin. He is currently writing the feature film of the infamous Winchester Mystery
House for the legendary horror outfit Hammer Films (THE WOMEN IN BLACK, LET ME IN.)
He has taught screenwriting for nine years in Los Angeles and Houston and finds that as gratifying as actually practicing
it. Mixing the elements of screenwriting with those of novel writing, he will tell you how to fix your problems with structure
and format.

A Leave-behind is one page (you may use both sides) that tells your story. It
has your photo at the top along with your address and a 3 or 4 line biography. Then, the title of your MS, your 2-sentence statement of your story,
and the first 50-700 words of your story. You hand it to the agent during your interview.
