such time the Club, upon demand, may reclaim it. The winner will be required to sign an agreement concerning the care,
insurance and shipping of this trophy before taking possession.

Opposite Sex to Best in Specialty), which best exemplify the breed’s characteristics.
BEST PUPPY IN REGULAR CLASSES: For the winners of the 6 and under 9 mos., and 9 and under 12 mos. Puppy Dog and Puppy Bitch

Ladd & Hawkie
On July 25, 2015, the Saint community lost a gentle soul.
Ladd passed peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife June,
and daughter, Marian at his side.
Ladd and June have been active members of the SBCA since
1971.
They purchased their first Saint, Morris’ Sir Sampson, while
Ladd was attending a math symposium in Wyoming. Quickly,
the “exhibiting” bug hooked them. Sir Sampson excelled in the
show ring, quickly becoming a Champion. Being the proud
owners of this young male, they purchased a lovely bitch, and
the show was on!!
Over the years, Ladd and June bred numerous Champions.
For those of us lucky enough to have Ladd as a friend, we will
miss his smile and constant words of encouragement.
The heavens are brighter, and the Saints are happier, having
their Dad sitting on a sunny hill scratching each and every one
as they share their turn.
Rest softly our dear friend, we miss you!

I certainly am deeply honored to have been elected to officiate at the greatest gathering of St. Bernards in the world.
My wife, Winnie, and I have been involved with our breed for over 49 years, as
students, fanciers, breeders; and I as a judge of St. Bernards for the last 38 years. I
am saddened to say that our breeding and showing has come to an end due to a
number of health issues. This does not mean that our interest in St. Bernards has in
any way diminished. We will continue to read and study about our breed in order to
further our knowledge and understanding of the standard; as well as the breed’s
history.
No, I will not tell you how many champions have been bred under the High Chateau
prefix, how many of our dogs have won points, breeds, or best of opposite at Nationals; nor how many times I have been elected to judge the National or how many
countries I have officiated in. This is all a matter of record. There is no reason for
me to pat myself on the back; THIS IS YOUR TIME: THIS IS YOUR BREED; so
make the best of it.
Keep in mind with a steady decline in registrations, fewer litters being bred and
fewer breeders being active, each breeding takes on that much more importance.
Think before you leap; breed to the standard and keep THUMP in mind.

Puppy, 6-9 Months Dogs.
I would like to thank the members for electing me to judge at our National this year. This is the first time I
have been asked to judge this show and I am really looking forward to seeing both the backbone of our
breeding programs (the girls) and the future of our breed (the Juniors).
Paul and I have been members of the SBCA since 1999 and I am proud to be a St Bernard Conformation
judge. Besides judging conformation, I am also an SBCA recognized Weight Pull Judge and an AKC All
Breed Junior Judge.
Paul and I started our kennel about 18 years ago with two young daughters. We have bred quite a number
of conformation Champions and (equally important to our working breed) numerous Weight Pull Champions. We have had the honor of our kennel having some of the top ranked St Bernards in Weight Pull,
Obedience and Rally, and Agility. I strongly believe that temperament, health and functionality (good construction) are an integral part of type for our breed, and that “type” can go hand in hand with the other
pieces. Longevity is also a part of that, and I am looking forward to seeing beautiful, typey, sound Veterans that can still do their jobs (including getting around the ring).
Raising two daughters in dogs, we recognized the importance of kids having chores and responsibilities.
Junior showmanship was an important part of learning that hard work in the kennel creates success in the
show ring. If we as a fancy, don’t help our Juniors (and newbies) succeed, our breed will not survive when
we the rest of us are gone. I am really looking forward to the honor of seeing those Juniors that love our
breed, and hope the entire fancy will support their entry.
I am a charter member of the Saint Bernard Club of Southern Oregon and have held numerous positions in
the club. I am also a member of the Saint Bernard Club of Puget Sound and Saint Bernard Club of the
Pacific Coast. I have held numerous positions in the Rogue Valley Kennel Club having served as President
and chairing the all-breed show, including the one coming up this November.
In the Saint Bernard Club of America, I have been active since becoming a member – having served on
numerous committees and held numerous positions in the club we all love. In 2010 I was honored to be
elected as the President of the SBCA for two consecutive terms. I have also been honored to serve as
Recording Secretary in 2005 and served on numerous committees, including as the Working Dog Chairman. Currently I am serving as very vocal WUSB Delegate for the SBCA and a member of the Education
Committee. In 2014, I had the pleasure judging the World Union St. Bernard Show St Bernard in Germany.
I am looking forward to having my eyes and hands on the core of our breed and am looking forward to
finding powerful, proportionately tall, strong muscular bitches, with saintly temperament, and overall soundness.

I would like to start by saying how honored I am to have been selected to
judge Sweepstakes at the 2015 SBCA National Specialty.
Begin born into this breed and having had the pleasure of growing up at dog
shows and in a Saint Bernard kennel, my love for Saints has forever been with
me. My Grandmother, the late Lillian Buell, founded the well-known and
successful Subira Kennels more than six decades ago, making it one of the
oldest and still active kennels. Her son Bill Buell Junior (my Father), along
with his wife, Sandy, still run Subira kennels today.
My first home bred Saint was CH. Subira’s Moonlighting Cybill, who I
showed in Junior Showmanship and also to her AKC championship. I have
enjoyed a career as an all-breed professional handler, finishing approximately
200 champions. Together Jackie Schart and I breed and show under the kennel name “Summerlyn”. We have produced over 25 champion Saint Bernards,
enjoying success in the show ring and whelping box.
I have had the pleasure to share my life with many influential Saints in my
kennel program, one being CH. Summerlyn’s Lucius WP. Lucius was also
the SBCA’s Stud Dog of the Year three years in a row, 2011, 2012 & 2013.
He’s been a very valuable stud dog in our breeding program. GCH. Summerlyn’s Keeping it Real, HOF, was also the very first Saint Bernard to receive
the Silver Grand Champion ststus and was the SBCA’s Top Winning Saint
Bernard in Breed Points. One of his great accomplishments was the Top
Twenty Award at the 2011 National Specialy.
To say I am excited to judge this year’s sweepstakes is an understatement. I
am looking forward to seeing the young Saints, the real future of our breed.

SWEEPSTAKES RULES
The Saint Bernard Club of America Sweepstakes is open to all dogs and bitches six months and under eighteen months
of age on the day of the show. All dogs entered in the Sweepstakes must also be entered in a regular class. Entry
should to be made at the same time and on the same entry form as for the regular class. Indicate “sweepstakes”, with
the appropriate sex and age division, in the space provided on the form “Additional Classes”
6 and under 9 mos.
9 and under 12 mos. 12 and under 15 mos.
Same classes for Dogs & Bitches
15 and under 18 mos.
Prize Money: After the Club retains 20% of the entry fee for expenses, 50% of the remaining Sweepstakes fee will be
divided as follows:
60% Best In Sweepstakes
40% Best Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes
The remaining 50% will be divided among the class winners as follows:
Classes with 4 or more entries: 1st 40%, 2nd 30%, 3rd 20%, 4th 10%

The Saint Bernard Club of America Veteran Sweepstakes is open to all dogs and bitches who, on the day of the show,
will be seven years of age or older. Neutered dogs and spayed bitches are eligible for competition in Veteran Sweepstakes. Entries in Veteran Sweepstakes NEED NOT be entered in a regular class. If entered as an additional class,
entries into the Veteran Sweepstakes should be made at the same time as the regular entries are made on the same
entry form under “Additional Classes”.

Thursday Judge: Mr. William Buell III
My husband, Jeff and I enjoy sharing our lives with our Saints. Since acquiring that first
Saint at 16 years of age, it has been a journey and adventure like no other.
In late 1994, I acquired my first Saint to show and joined the SBCA. Since joining I
have been fortunate to attend every National except two. The following years have
been graced with many wonderful dogs and people. Life with the Saints and showing
has taken me many places and given me the opportunity to see much of this great
country.
We are the proud grandparents of 2 wonderful boys, Dalton and Gavin who also share
our love for animals,
I thank the SBCA for the honor of judging 4-6 month puppies at the 2015 National.

Lovey Olbrich first ventured into the dog training world when she took her birthday
present, a Saint Bernard puppy, to an obedience class taught by Wayne Nelson in
1968. She spent most of the first decade and a half of her dog life in the conformation
ring , branching out into obedience when she put a CD on her Columbo in 1983. She
has enjoyed many aspects of her dog life with her Saints as well as Chesapeakes, a
Corgi, and a couple of Terriers (Bull and Irish). Although in the performance venue
obedience is her first love, her dogs have also earned titles in Rally® obedience, tracking, agility, weight pulling, and of course drafting. She is an AKC provisional judge in
Utility obedience and has judged several draft tests, including four times at the SBCA
National Specialty.
Her first draft dog was Chaucer, who taught her “when at first you don’t succeed, try, try
again” when it took six tries to get that DD title. Since then she has put five more DD
titles on her Saints along with a DDX on her Sam and one TDD with her wonderful
team, Wendy and Senta.
In her other life she supported her dog habit by consulting in the field of chemical engineering until she retired in March of 2014. She is training director for Oakland (CA) Dog
Training Club and teaches competition obedience classes for that club. She is blessed
to be married to her wonderful husband, Curtis Munson, for over thirty years. Today
she has two dogs ,a St. Bernard named Sam (WDCh Shadow Mtn’s Playit Again v Reema, UDX, OM, TDX, RAE, GN, VER, DDX) and her young Irish Terrier, Titania (Red
Branch Summer Dream). She is pleased to be invited to judge the draft test.

Draft Dog Judge, Viola Brown
I am pleased to be judging draft for the fourth time. This is one of the only remaining real jobs that a saint still does, since their rescue work has been taken over by helicopters and smaller, more portable, dogs.
Tom and I have been fully involved with saints since 1971. We participate in Conformation, Obedience, Draft, Rally, Therapy, and most recently, Brace. We now have
our second K-9 Reading Buddy. One of our dogs advertised for Zoll Medical and Western Digital Computers. Two dogs were blood donors for the Helen Woodward Center in
San Diego. We have had Draft Dog degrees on four dogs, including Ch Subira’s Alucian, DDX.
All of our dogs are also Champions or Grand Champions, including Kilo, the
number one from 2008-2010, and currently, the young contenders, GCH ‘s Caesar and
Cleopatra.
We owe sincere thanks to our mentors, Skee and Shirley Tsagris, Howard
and Phoebe Brown, and to our long time handler, Bill Buell.
The next time you worry about having to carry all our equipment to the ring,
just pile it on a cart and let your saint do it. They’ll love it!
