on the Water
Since we are surrounded (almost literally),
it is only right that we brag about our awesome lakes first. For those of you that aren’t
lake people, you really need to get with
the program. Here are some of our favorite
things to do on the water.

our many species of fish.

day tubing down the Otter Tail
River. Or tie yourself to a dock.

Day or night, paddle boarding is the

shoreline to explore!

good balance and high pain tolerance,

for a whole new realm of activities to enjoy! A
bucket and a popup is all you really need, but
it is more fun to have a luxury fish house with
bunks, a fireplace, and a pizza oven!

the whole city, available for bikers or
walkers. Take a cruise on the Arvig Park

Run – We like to keep active around here,
so we created the Perham Race Series.
A variety of different races are put on
throughout the year. That’s right, the whole
year. We kick it off with a Freeze Your Face
Race in January.

5 Ways to Explore Entertainment & Culture
Every small town has a culture of their own.
1. Live Entertainment – Music, concerts, and plays are just a few
of the live entertainment options in our area. Many of the local
bars have live music on weekends throughout the year, while
larger concerts and plays are held at either the Perham Center
for the Arts or the Perham High School Auditorium. Either way,
Perham always puts on a good show!
2. Waves of Discovery – The Waves of Discovery Mural is art to
experience and explore. It was created with a medium of carved
concrete and includes elements of agates, fossils fused glass,
and mosaics. Designed to encourage interaction among viewers,
there are over 50 items hidden among the panels of the mural to
seek and find.
3. International Turtle Races – Every Wednesday during the
summer, a crowd gathers around a paved ring to race turtles.
Seems silly, but it’s been a way of life for almost 40 years! We have
turtles available, but you can also train your own for the big race.

5. Perham Center for the Arts – The Perham Center for the
Arts is a former 100-year-old architectural marvel that hosts
everything from musical productions to weddings and painting
classes. Each year during Perham’s Turtle Fest celebration, a
$10,000 cash prize is given away to a lucky raffle winner during
the Arts and Crafts Festival.

Champions!
20 varsity athletic programs, 12 fine arts and co-curricular programs.
Minnesota State High School League’s Challenge Cup (recognizing excellence in athletics and the
arts): PHS has been recognized as the top public school in 5 of the past 7 years and the outright
champion in 2008.
PHS has 40 former students that are currently involved in competitive college athletics or fine
arts! Their excellence at PHS opened doors to college performance opportunities, scholarships
and travel.
In the last 3 years PHS has had 5 team state champions and 9 individual state champions in arts
and athletics; two of our coaches (Jeff Morris and Dave Cresap) have been named National Coach
of the Year!
Along with the athletics and fine arts, PHS offers opportunities for excellence in programs normally occurring in only large, suburban schools, such as Science Research, Robotics, and stringed
instruments.
