Intended use
The TopTronic® E gateway is the connection point between the Internet and the Hoval heat generator.
The gateway must be installed according to the “Technical Information Assembly / TopTronic® E Online”, after
which registration of the plant at www.hovaldesk.com is
performed using this document.
The gateway enables users to access and operate their
Hoval heating system via smartphone and tablet PC from
home or while travelling.

LED lights
For commissioning it is important to know what status
the gateway is currently in. The LEDs indicate the current
status for this purpose.
The LED electrical power supply is green, all other LEDs
are dark.
-- Gateway is in boot status, i.e. the operating system is
starting up - can take up to 60 seconds
-- WLAN aerial (optional) is supplied with voltage (green
LED (4) on WLAN aerial lights up)

• No connection to server
→ Occurs while establishing connection to the LAN network
→ Occurs during initialisation in the WLAN (green LED on
WLAN aerial flashes) - can take up to 60 seconds
→ Otherwise check the settings on the gateway
• Connection setup to the server - can take up to 30 seconds
• Connection to server established
• Data logging on USB active

Bus terminating resistors
Room control
module easy
The bus terminating resistors must be activated on the
devices that are furthest apart from one another.
It is best to activate the terminating resistor on
the heat generator and on each bus station
(usually room control module or gateway) that
is installed furthest away from it.

Commissioning
1. Use “Edit” to edit the first function
The settings described below can be performed using the commissioning wizard on
the control module of the heat generator.

Commissioning (via commissioning wizard)
The following section only describes the settings for commissioning the gateway (TopTronic® E online) on the
commissioning wizard.
The setting for the system is described in the commissioning instructions “TopTronic® E Basic Module Heat
Generator”.
4.1.1 Procedure for setting parameters
After the basic settings under “General”, all other function
groups (“heat generator”, “heating circuits”, “hot water”,
“buffer”, “setup gateway”, etc.) are accessed using the
arrow symbol (1, Fig. 07).

Using “Edit” (2, Fig. 07) it is possible to carry out the most
important specific parameter settings (sample screen
Fig. 08). The parameters are divided into the corresponding function group and function with the specification on
which module (address) the functions are located.

Set the following parameters here:
Internet access
-- Network – when the gateway is connected LAN
-- WLAN – when the WLAN aerial is connected to the
gateway
Threshold global radiation in W/m2
-- The global radiation to be expected is only sent after
registration on the server and the correct address has
been entered for the plant.
-- If the set threshold is exceeded, it is possible to respond to it in the individual circuits.
DHCP
-- Yes (factory setting) – the gateway automatically obtains an IP address in the network
-- No – additional settings stated below must be made
to integrate the gateway into the network
IP address
-- If DHCP is YES, no setting is required
Subnet mask
-- If DHCP is YES, no setting is required
Default gateway
-- If DHCP is YES, no setting is required
Use IP address
-- If changes have been made to the above settings, the
change must be activated using this parameter
Following that, the gateway is restarted automatically.
