Supporting parent carers & their families
Newsletter
March 2016
LAST PAPER COPY NEWSLETTER
Sadly, this is the last paper copy of the newsletter to be mailed to
all our registered families.
As society becomes more internet based and aims to be more ‘green’,
the need for paper is becoming less and less.
Currently, we produce 3-4 newsletters per year which costs the charity
in excess of £800 per edition. We feel that this money could be better
spent providing a wider range of resources and more activities/events
for families, children, young people and siblings throughout the year.
We will continue to produce a digital version of our newsletter every 3-4
months- families can access this via:
• Our
new website!
http://services.actionforchildren.org.uk/north-lincolnshire-services
• Email-
-please ensure we have your correct email address by calling us on
01724 277766 to continue receiving the newsletter in online form.
• Or

We would like to give our biggest thanks to all those who have offered such wonderful gifts and
donations to Kaleidoscope over the festive period, including:
The 6th Scunthorpe (Messingham) Scout Group
Spar, Old Brumby Street
Lincolnshire Masonic Benevolent Fund
Alandick Communications
Broughton Methodist Church
HSBC Goole
Outwood Academy Brumby
Simon Brown
Crowle Methodist Chapel
Tata Steel
Your kind donations helped us organise a End of Year
Party event for our service users and their
families, with a surprise visit from Santa!
Great fun was had by all ☺
Please be aware that over the coming months Kaleidoscope will be contacting every registered
family on our database by telephone to ensure we have the correct contact information,
diagnosis and professionals associated with our registered children. This will assist
us in continuing to provide a range of activities and support for disabled service users
and their families. Your data will remain confidential.
Please expect a short telephone call with one of our support workers to confirm your
details and answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your patience.
On Tuesday 8th December 2015 Kaleidoscope were excited to host a visit
from the North Lincolnshire Council Young Inspectors team. We were keen to
receive a young person’s perspective on how our services and building meet
families needs. The young inspectors Max, Samuel and Kaitlyn spent one
and a half hours extensively touring the building and conducting interviews
with staff and service users, and in their eventual report awarded the
Kaleidoscope service a 5 star ‘excellent’ rating!
The rest of the report was also incredibly positive, with the inspectors
praising Kaleidoscope’s ‘calming and cosy atmosphere’ and the ‘incredibly
friendly, caring and nurturing’ staff’ in particular.
The whole team here at Kaleidoscope
would like to thank the Young
Inspectors and all at North Lincolnshire
Council who helped organise the visit,
we are thrilled to receive such a glowing report!
Do you have any feedback regarding the Kaleidoscope building,
services or our team? Is there anything more we could be doing to
support your family?
We’d love to hear your comments, please call us on 01724
277766, email us at [email protected] or simply drop
into the building to let us know.

AUTISM SUPPORT GROUP
Kaleidoscope’s autism group is a friendly place for
parents of disabled children to come together in support of each
other.
The group provides support and encouragement throughout
your journey for your child from birth to 25 years old from other
parents who are going through similar experiences to you.
To participate in the autism group your child does not need to
have a diagnosis: the aim of the group is for parents to have an
informal place to relax and chat with other parents in a similar
situation.
Come along and join in the support; everyone’s journey is
different, every child with a need is unique.
The upcoming dates are 18th March, 20th April and 17th

Please pop in and see us- we value your company, views, ideas and opinions. It also is an opportunity for you
to find out what’s happening in the area. Following on from the success of November 13th Workshop and our
positive working relationship with the LA, we are planning a co-produced roadshow in May. Come and join us
to find out more.
An exciting opportunity has arisen here at Action for Children for young people aged 13-18 who would like to
volunteer to help us to interview potential new staff. The experience of interviewing provides the knowledge and
skills to make a valuable addition to a young person’s CV and we will be happy to provide a job
reference should they need one. We feel young people are able to assess a candidate’s ability
to engage with children more effectively than an adult professional can, raise issues that adults
may miss and are better placed to highlight positive and negative attributes that candidates
present. Their input will help us to provide a more productive service– all here at Kaleidoscope
are excited to hear the thoughts of a younger interview panel team!
If you or a young person you know would like to volunteer for our interview panel, please
contact Rebecca Sanderson on 01724 277766 or via email:
