If there are not enough players from Zone 6 trying out, we will then welcome out-of-zone girls. This policy was put into place in the interest of growing the Club with Edmonton based players, and also with the premise that U14 is still a developmental stage in the LTAD framework. Team size should be 15 skaters and 2 goalies. Essentially, we are trying to maximize the opportunity for Edmonton players to play for the Edmonton Club. Practices, Games and Tournament Schedule ~ 2 practices per week on average, usually at regular times: 1 week night, 1 weekend typically ~ Regular scheduled games in the Black Gold Junior A league – 1 game per week. ~ 1 dryland session or power skating weekly; typically a week night. ~ Flight travel is discouraged by the ERC board except for U14AA except in the case of Westerns in BC or Manitoba ~ Tournaments: ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ ➢ Turkey Ring (St. Albert, October) Bernadette Price (Saskatoon, early November) The Wood (Edmonton, late November) Central Alberta Icebreaker (Lacombe, December) Golden Ring (Calgary, January), Provincials (likely St. Albert 2015, early March) Westerns (if qualify, Calgary, early April) Expectations The position of the Board is that the coaching staff chosen for the ERC teams are certified, experienced and dedicated Coaches and/or Players, and have been supporters of the sport, the Federation and/or the Club for several years. The Board trusts that these individuals will make decisions that are in the best interests of the team and the players, and will be fully supported in these decisions. ● Parent Code of Conduct – The expectation is that the parents treat the players, coaches and each other with respect at all times during the season. Negative gossip, outbursts and any other action deemed inappropriate by a Head Coach can be grounds for a players dismissal from the team. Parents are expected to trust and empower the coaching staff, and adhere to communication policies established at the start of the season (team liaison, 24 hr rule, positive feedback/suggestion processes, etc) ● Player Code of Conduct – The players are expected to treat each other, their parents and the coaching staff with respect at all times during the season. 110% effort every session (on and off ice), positive feedback/communication with teammates and coaches, commitment to attending ALL team events, and maturity in approaching coaching staff with questions/concerns are expected. The specific details of the parent and player expectations will be communicated by the Head Coaches at the beginning of each season. Finances and Commitment Both topics are subjective and dependent on what the “team goals” are. These will be established at the on-set of the season by the coaches, players and parents, and it is the expectation that all families will support the common goal. ● Commitment – We recognize that players have lives. Generally the expectation for U14 AA commitment is that Ringette be 3rd priority in line behind school and family. All players are still encouraged to participate in other sports or extra-curricular activities, particularly at U14AA. However, we ask that scheduled Ringette times (practices, games, dry-land) take priority unless there are important tournaments, school events, or championships relating to the other sports/activities. Where those arise, the coaching staff will be fully supportive of the athletes attending. It is expected that adequate notice be given to coaches/managers when a player will be away. ● ● ● Finances – An example of a detailed breakdown of the Tween AA operations has been provided for your review. All accommodations and travel expenses are typically covered by the parents, along with some of the apparel costs to avoid large or monthly cash calls. Cash calls, staggered through the year, totaling $600 to $800 is usually enough to cover team expenses (tournament registration, player coach hotels, dryland, bus to Saskatoon, team apparel, team meals, dryland, team events). Please note the opportunities for fundraising through the grocery program offered by the ERC. Generally, the teams also fundraise at the Wood tournament and the proceeds go directly to the teams. Other fundraising options can significantly offset costs. Other Club Offerings ~ All ERC U14, U16, and U19 teams attend the AA Provincial championships (likely in St. Albert for 2015). ~ The top 4 AA teams in Alberta U14AA (there are 6 teams in total) will compete at the Western Canadian Championships in spring 2015 (likely in Calgary) ~ The ERC continues to fully support and 100% subsidize the goalie training program delivered by 5Count, including Keely Brown and Heather Konkin, former WAM! goalies. In addition, the ERC subsidizes the goalie’s choice of other development up to $500 during each season. ~ ERC hosts the annual Wood tournament in November every season at Terwillegar Arenas. ~ The ERC hosts an annual boot camp at the end of August to prepare for tryouts and summer ice shinny throughout the summer. ~ The Club organizes and hosts the annual Gayle Shaw Memorial tournament, a fundrasier for the Canadian Cancer society, which includes the club and Federation teams playing mixed mini games at WEM.
