PFT Successful in the United Arab Emirates The latest news from the building trade shows a clear trend: “The construction industry in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is booming.” The UAE has become an interesting sales market for German companies. Products “made in Germany” are in greater demand than ever in Arab countries. Industrialisation is one of the top priorities in the Emirates. Investments in luxury tourism are growing. Dubai currently welcomes 5.4 million tourists per year and plans to increase this number to 15 million visitors by 2010. And this growth of the tourism sector substantially contributes to the present boom in the construction industry. Cooperation with PLAXIT in Abu Dhabi Since 2003, PFT has successfully cooperated with Dr. Armin Wünsch in the Arab market. Dr. Wünsch is the owner of PLAXIT Dry Mix Company L.L.C., a mortar factory based in Abu Dhabi. Approx. 20 million euros have been invested in these In the PLAXIT training room, employees learn how to use mortar works. PFT machines. In terms of production technology, this is a 2 PFT PRISMA 2.2005 state-of-the-art mortar factory; it has a maximum annual capacity of 180,000 tonnes. Today, PLAXIT offers “complete service”, i.e. the customers receive their material silos together with the PFT machines needed for the application of the material. PLAXIT is currently the only company that offers this service in the UAE. After all, the system includes not just materials and perfect machines, but also well thought-out logistics with silo and delivery vehicles. Machine Technology for the UAE PFT SILOMAT E 140 systems have become the conveying equipment of choice in Abu Dhabi. These portable units can quickly and easily be mounted to the bottom of a container. Besides, the SILOMAT machines are highly suitable for connection to a PLAXIT floor container as an intermediate unit when conveying heights of more than 20 floors have to be overcome. For the mixing and pumping of their materials, the PLAXIT customers generally use PFT G 5 SUPER mixing pumps. It is important to Dr. Wünsch that this continuously working type of mixing pump can be filled both with bagged materials and through an injection hood. Furthermore, he appreciates the enormous benefits of the separate control module, the PFT CADDY. One of PFT's great strengths is the fact that perfect service is available even in far-off countries. Master painter Werner Mogk of Echzell received a very special birthday present from PFT. On his 58th birthday, the first prize of PFT's trade fair lottery - a PFT RITMO mixing pump - was handed over to him. PFT RITMO - FIRST PRIZE of the PFT Lottery at the ”FARBE 2005” During his visit to the trade fair “FARBE 2005” in Cologne, master painter Werner Mogk tried his luck and took part in the game “Find the Right Connection” at the PFT stand. The participants had to find the right power connection for PFT's new mixing pump and make the small PFT RITMO “shine”. When asked to choose between 230 and 400 V, Mr. Mogk knew that the PFT The new PFT RITMO mixing pump will powerfully support the tradesmen of Baudekoration Mogk. Werner Mogk was tremendously happy about this prize. Together with his workers, he celebrated his birthday and the handing over of the PFT RITMO with a few drinks. He received the machine from Sabine Volk-Lenhard, the general manager of the PFT trader Heinrich Volk KG, based in Altenstadt. PFT Sales Territory Manager Rainer Bleidt and PFT Technical Consultant Joachim Bock also heartily congratulated Mr. Mogk and wished him and his men a lot of success with their new mixing pump. PFT PRISMA 2.2005 3 Full-coverage thin-bed mortar joints in flat clay block masonry can now be prepared in an even more economical way - with the aid of PFT equipment. Mechanical Preparation of Full-Coverage THIN-BED MORTAR JOINTS The flat clay block construction technique generally requires high accuracy, and Bernhard and Horst Hemmerlein, the owners of Hemmerlein Bau GmbH, a building firm based in Ebensfeld (near Coburg, South Germany), know that very well. Their company was charged with the construction of the shell of a house in Coburg. The masonry was to be made of Wienerberger Poroton flat clay blocks. At the building site in Coburg, the first step of the flat clay block construction technique - mortar mixing - was done by the PFT RITMO mixing pump. 4 PFT PRISMA 2.2005 Laying Flat Clay Blocks in the Full-Coverage Technique When laying flat clay blocks with full-coverage thin-bed mortar, the mortar layer applied to the joints has to be as thin as possible - this helps to minimise the consumption of material. And this financial aspect is not the only benefit for building owners. The time needed for bricklaying is also considerably reduced, thanks to specially developed aids for thin-bed mortar application, such as the mortar roller. The mortar roller ensures that the thin-bed mortar fully covers the brick surface and closes the holes. To achieve this, the bricklayer fills the hopper of the mortar roller with the mixed thin-bed mortar and moves the roller along each row of bricks. The result is a uniform, uninterrupted bed joint on which the next layer of bricks can then be placed. Saving Even More Time with PFT At the building site in Coburg, the workers of Hemmerlein for the first time applied thin-bed mortar with the aid of a PFT machine, to save even more time in shell construction. From the Bamberg-based PFT partner trader Sponsel, the firm had bought a PFT RITMO mixing pump, which was used to mix the mortar. Until then, mortar had always been mixed by hand. This PFT RITMO eliminated the strenuous work step of manual mortar mixing with a double-shaft mixer. The machine, placed centrally on the building site, performed its task by one push of a button. From the PFT RITMO, the lump-free thin-bed mortar mixture was pumped to a tub through a short material hose. Then the workers could simply fill their mortar slides with material from this tub and work even faster. With the aid of their PFT mixing pump, the tradesmen of Hemmerlein Bau GmbH built the masonry of this house in a record time! Photo: Wienerberger Ziegelindustrie The small PFT RITMO mixing pump proved at various construction sites that it is also suitable for the large-scale application of flowable materials. Application of Flowable Materials with the Universal Genius PFT RITMO 3 mm of Floor Leveller Evidence number one: The application of a levelling compound to an uneven floor surface. The PFT RITMO did a very good job in the renovation of a house in GeckenauBastheim, a village in South Germany. In several rooms, a 3 mm layer of levelling compound had to be applied to the existing floor screed. It was necessary to use a material that was efficient to apply and could be walked on and receive a floor covering after a short time. Knauf Nivellierspachtel 415 met these requirements. The plastering and painting business of Heiko Stäblein, based in Heufurt, was charged with the levelling work. Since the firm already owned a PFT G 4 mixing pump - Europe's No. 1 - it was clear that this machine would be used for the job. Supported by his PFT partner trader Odenwälder Baumaschinen, Schwebheim, Mr. Stäblein tested the PFT RITMO mixing pump for the first time. Thanks to the use of a PFT A 3-2 L screw pump at maximum speed, an optimal, lump-free mixture was prepared. And PFT level gauges for floor screed ensured that the layer of material applied was absolu- tely level. The result was a perfectly homogeneous floor surface. 5 mm of Filling Compound Evidence number two: The application of a flowable cement mortar for mineral coverings. In the construction of a factory building in Neustadt Aisch (South Germany), the PFT RITMO proved its worth once again. It helped to apply a 5 mm layer of filling compound to a floor approx. 150 m 2 in area in an economical and time-saving way. The flooring business of Theodor Rüttger, based in Iphofen, applied Silatex SiC-Megaplan, a material made by Chemotechnik. This flowable cement mortar required the use of optimal mixing equipment, ensuring a homogeneous, lump-free mixture. Frank Hippel, a representative of the PFT construction machinery trader Stökker, Mainstockheim, and Otto Iff, the PFT Technical Consultant for Northern Bavaria, suggested using a PFT RITMO mixing pump. This machine economically mixed the mortar with clean water to form an easily spreading and fast-setting flooring compound - even though it was only supplied with 230 V current. The mixture was poured onto the floor of the factory building with a PFT mortar hose and spread with a floor screed blade. Then Mr. Rüttger used spiked shoes to de aerate and level the flowable mortar. In this way, PFT equipment helped to create a uniform floor surface at the building site in Neustadt. PFT's small mixing pump, placed in front of the building, did a very good job. The PFT RITMO helped to easily apply a flowable cement mortar to the floor of a factory building in Neustadt. PFT PRISMA 2.2005 5 The PFT MAXIMIX compulsory mixer, the PFT ZP 3 long conveying pump and an extension hopper designed by himself - that is the tailor-made solution for Frank Siebert's one-man firm. This PFT machine combination stores lar- ge quantities of mixed material and thus permits long application times wi- thout constant interruptions for the mixing of new material. XXL Machine Combination for a Large Supply “Be your own man,” master builder Frank Siebert thought to himself in 1998 and established his own clay construction business. Numerous reference projects, accomplished either manually or with the aid of machines, prove that Mr. Siebert is really a master in his trade. A short while ago, he decided to purchase better and, above all, user-friendlier equipment. It was important to him to have a machine combination that would mix and store larger quantities of material, so that he had more time for the application of the material and did not have to waste half of his wor- king time on mixing new earth-moist clay plaster. PFT MAXIMIX Combined with PFT ZP 3 long At www.pft.de, Frank Siebert found what he was looking for. He chose a compulsory mixer and a conveying pump by PFT, which exactly met his requirements. In a consultation with the local PFT partner trader Moog GmbH, based in Paderborn (North Germany), an appointment was made to test the machine combination at a building site. The demonstration of the PFT ZP 3 long conveying pump, with its large material container, and the PFT MAXIMIX compulsory mixer immediately convinced Mr. Siebert of the benefits of this combination. These two machines offered a material capacity of approx. In one-man operation, Frank Siebert can apply large amounts of plaster without 360 litres altogetconstantly having to mix new material. her. 6 PFT PRISMA 2.2005 of Material The material is conveyed by the PFT T 10 1.5 screw pump integrated in the PFT ZP 3 long. The Tailor-Made Solution Mr. Siebert further improved this combination by adding an extension hopper, which increased the volume by approx. 200 litres. Thanks to this clever kind of selfhelp, Mr. Siebert now has exactly the equipment that he had in mind. He can plaster for a long time without constantly having to interrupt his work to mix new material. The use of a PFT G 4 mixing pump at Hannover Zoo showed that PFT equip- ment can even help to bring Indian atmosphere to North Germany. COLUMN PRODUCTION the PFT G4 The optimal mixture of the material in the PFT G 4 and the resulting minimisation of the setting time made it possible to produce two columns for the palace hall per week. Hannover Adventure Zoo has realised a very special concept. In addition to the presentation of about 2,600 animals of 240 species in near-natural landscapes, Hannover Zoo features a unique adventure world with a wide range of attractions: Numerous visitors enjoy animal theme worlds, shows, public animal feedings, tours with zoo scouts, animal stories and lots of other experiences. Besides, the “zoo enterprise” offers settings for extraordinary parties and events. Three places on the zoo premises are available for various kinds of events. The African river landscape “Zambezi”, the Lower Saxon village “Meyer's Farm” and the Indian “Jungle Palace” can be booked for unforgettable celebrations. Enhancing the Attractiveness by Additional Buildings To make it even more attractive, the event hall in the Jungle Palace, which seats 50 to 100 people, was to be decorated with additional Indian-style columns. Finally, a total of 24 columns would beautify the interior of the palace hall. with remixing process improves the mortar properties and helps to fully utilise the material quality. Thanks to this special equipment of the PFT G 4, it was no problem to pour the filling mortar used into the mould. The workers could fill the mould with this mortar twice a week, because the optimal mixture of the material minimised the setting time. Column Production with the Aid of the PFT G 4 The management decided to have the columns made by zoo workers, headed by Michael Bellgardt. For this job, Mr. Bellgardt had a special column casting mould fabricated. And to facilitate the casting of the columns, which would be approx. 3 To bring even more Indian atmosphere to the hall of the Jungle Palace at Hannover metres high, he needed suitable equip- Adventure Zoo, a total of 24 new columns were fabricated. ment. Mr. Sontag equipped this PFT mixing pump Photo: Hannover Adventure Zoo with a PFT ROTOQUIRL remixer and a PFT D 8-1.5 screw pump. When a PFT ROTOQUIRL with a capacity of 4.2 litres is used, the material can remain in the mixing zone for a longer time. The PFT PRISMA 2.2005 7 Being fully satisfied with the first PFT EM 11 M electric mixing pump - and having noticed an in- crease in the number of orders - the plastering firm Milosek did not hesitate to buy a second and a third machine of this type. High Customer Satisfaction Thanks to HIGH PERFORMANCE of PFT EM 11 M About one and a half years ago, Roland Milosek, the owner of Putztechnik Milosek, a plastering firm based in Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock (North Germany), decided to buy his first PFT EM 11 M electric mixing pump. Before, he thoroughly tested the newly launched PFT machine. In a few demonstrations and field tests, the electric mixing pump had to prove its worth. However, the high performance of the machine and, ultimately, a visit to the PFT machine factory in Iphofen fully satisfied Mr. Milosek. Thanks to the optimal interplay between Mr. Milosek's workers and their PFT machine, all building jobs that followed were completed properly and, above all, on schedule. Applying 12,000 m2 of plaster in six weeks - this can only be accomplished with optimal equipment! The job was done on a piecework basis, and two PFT EM 11 M electric mixing pumps helped to mix and pump the material. Large-Scale Order Requires Additional Machines When Mr. Milosek accepted an order concerning the application of 10,000 m 2 of interior plaster and 2,000 m 2 of exterior plaster in the middle of 2005, he knew that he would not get very far with only one PFT EM 11 M. So he simply purchased a second PFT EM 11 M from his Paderborn-based construction machinery trader Moog Baumaschinen. Since his workers had already familiarised themselves with the use of this machine, the 12,000 m 2 plastering job was completed in an unbelievably short time of only six weeks. Roland Milosek and his customer had originally scheduled about eight to ten weeks for this project! A quick and simple procedure: The cement-lime plaster is mixed in the mixing container and fed to the pump container, and the spray application can begin. 8 PFT PRISMA 2.2005 All Good Things Come in Threes Today, Mr. Milosek even owns a third PFT EM 11 M. Thanks to the new PFT machines, which ensure a very effective and, above all, quick completion of building jobs, the plastering business Milosek has already secured a number of new orders. Roland Milosek also greatly appreciates the good cooperation between his firm, the PFT Headquarters in Iphofen and his partner trader Moog in Paderborn. In addition to his three PFT EM 11 M electric mixing pumps, he currently owns four PFT G 4 mixing pumps, two PFT SILOMAT systems and one PFT CUTMASTER hot-wire cutter. Mr. Milosek has become a highly satisfied PFT customer! Customised solutions based on a modular system are one of the strengths of PFT. The builders of a new railway line for ICE trains have profited from the well-matched machine combination of PFT MULTIMIX and PFT ZP 3 V. PFT TECHNOLOGY Keeps ICE Trains on a Safe Track In a very difficult construction project in South Germany, PFT managed to “keep things moving” once again. The consortium that is building the northern section of a new railway line for Inter City Express (ICE) high-speed trains between Nuremberg and Ingolstadt had a special task for PFT and the PFT construction machinery trader Hess, based in Hemau. The problem which Holger Schmidt, graduate engineer and supervisor of the consortium's overground works, had to solve was how to fill the joints of 4,000 precast concrete elements used in tracklaying under high time pressure. had to be filled in an efficient, economical and time-saving procedure in one night shift. The only practicable solution that would guarantee optimal effectiveness was to mount the mixing and pumping system for the filling material on a vehicle. To put this idea into practice, Michael Hess, the PFT construction machinery trader, and Otto Iff, the PFT Technical Consultant for Northern Bavaria, suggested moving the mixing and pumping system along the tracks on a lorry, together with a supply of material bags, to ensure an efficient operation. Tracklaying under Time Pressure When working for a consortium of this kind, the greatest difficulty is usually the fact that each job has to be completed under enormous time pressure, so that a trouble-free interplay of all parties is ensured. In this case, the joints of 4,000 precast concrete elements used for the railway tracks Machine Combination Works Successfully The mixing unit used was a PFT MULTIMIX com- The power and water supplying units, the grouting material and the PFT machine combination were transported along the track on a lorry. This ensured an efficient joint filling procedure. The remote control on the handle of the PFT ZARGOMAT glue gun allows the user to easily switch the material flow from the PFT ZP 3 V conveying pump on and off. pulsory mixer. It made a homogeneous mixture of BETEC 180, a cementitious, microsilica-modified grouting material based on blast furnace cement. The mixture was pumped by a PFT ZP 3 V conveying pump (5.5 kW). The PFT MULTIMIX mixed approx. 80 litres of material and fed it to the PFT ZP 3 V. This machine pumped the material to the joints of the track structure through a hose, 35 mm in diameter and 5 m in length, at a rate of approx. 10 litres per minute. The material flow was controlled with the aid of a PFT ZARGOMAT glue gun and a lance. This allowed the workers to properly, quickly and efficiently fill the narrow gaps in the finished concrete elements. PFT PRISMA 2.2005 9 Two PFT SILOJET conveying systems and two PFT G 4 mixing pumps easily conveyed plaster to the upper floors of the highest building of Braunschweig. Modernising the „I-PUNKT“ in Braunschweig The PFT SILOJET gravity conveying system transported the material to each floor, up to No. 17. Then the PFT G 4 mixing pump, which was moved from floor to floor, helped to apply the interior plaster. 10 Nobody and nothing is spared by the ravages of time, not even the highest building of Braunschweig (North Germany). So it was time for modernisation. This building, which is located in the Heidberg neighbourhood and nicknamed “I Punkt” (“dot over the i”) by the locals, is 54 metres high and has 17 floors. The “I Punkt” is a landmark of Braunschweig and situated in one of the city's most pleasant residential areas. The aim of the renovation efforts was to create modern flats (partly with a view of the Harz Mountains!) meeting various needs, as well as attractive business spaces, a high-quality restaurant and new facades with several winter gardens. The plastering business Pfeiffer, established in 1982 and based in Cremlingen, got the chance to take part in this prestigious modernisation project. Lothar Pfeiffer, the owner of the business, specialising in machine-applied plasters and floor screeds, was charged with the application of interior plaster to an area of approx. 6,000 m2. PFT PRISMA 2.2005 Exceptional Conveying Heights? PFT SILOJET Never before did Mr. Pfeiffer have to convey his materials to a height of about 50 metres. During the preparations for this job, he was not absolutely sure that he would manage to transport the plaster to the 17th floor. But since his machinery - PFT products, of course - had never let him down, he decided to use PFT equipment for the “I Punkt” project. Mr. Pfeiffer combined two of his eight PFT G 4 mixing pumps with two PFT SILOJET conveying systems. The gravity conveying systems by PFT are characterised by a compact design and high conveying capacities. Machines featuring conveying distances of up to 200 metres and capacities of up to 35 l/min would also be suitable for this difficult job. Thanks to the PFT SILOJET, mounted directly to the bottom of the material silo, the material was conveyed without any problems - despite a height difference of almost 50 metres. The “I Punkt-Meter” on the front of the building shows the progress of the modernisation work. And Lothar Pfeiffer made an important contribution with the aid of PFT machine technology. Neat Plasterwork? PFT G 4 On each floor, the dry material was fed to a PFT G 4 mixing pump in an almost dustfree procedure with the help of an injection hood. Then it was mixed with water in the PFT G 4, pumped to the place of use and applied with a spray gun. Thanks to this combination, the material was conveyed to the top in a very clean way and with little effort. The highly skilled workers and the well-matched machines of Pfeiffer had already been a good team for many years. They were able to complete the entire plasterwork in only four weeks. And since Mr. Pfeiffer and his workers executed the order at the “I Punkt” in Braunschweig in such a short time, they can already concentrate on their next project. NEW MACHINES in the PFT Product Range Mixing pump PFT RITMO plus M Directly after its launch, the PFT RITMO mixing pump became the star of the PFT product range.
