What does it mean to bridge an amplifier?
Bridging an amplifier is often most useful when you have a
2 channel amplifier you want to run as a mono channel or a
4 channel amplifier that you to run as a 2 channel amplifier.
Bridging is the combination of the left and right channels
of an amp, using one terminal from each side, to make
1 (mono) channel with a higher output than either
channel running separately.

A mono-block amplifier has only 1 channel and cannot
be bridged. The 2 outputs of a mono-block amplifier
are there to easily connect multiple subwoofers.

If you're not sure whether your amp is a mono-block or a
multi channel, look at the speaker terminals. Multi channel
amps are labeled left and right, and mono-blocks are labeled
speaker 1 and speaker 2. (See diagram at side.)

Every amplifier has different requirements for
bridging, so consult your manual before
making any connections.
What is the right way to set the gain on
your amplifier?
The gain, or input sensitivity, is a setting that allows
you to use your amplifier with a wide range of source units.
It does not dictate the output of the amplifier.

All amplifiers are designed to output a fixed amount of power.
The greater the signal the amplifier receives from the source,
the less power the amplifier needs to produce the power to
amplify that signal to its fixed power output. Adjusting the
gain past this point will not produce more power, only distortion, and distortion damages amplifiers as well as
your ears.
The difference between a volume control and gain is the volume control controls the output of the source it is running,
and the gain prepares the amplifier for the input signal.
