Our Vision - ‘To be the region’s premier tertiary teaching and learning institute for
globally recognised and industry relevant education and training.’
Our Mission - ‘To deliver industry-relevant tertiary education and training, using a
learner centric approach, with staff, facilities and courseware of the highest quality, in the
transformation of our human resource into the region’s most valuable natural resource.’
Established on February 13, 1987, by our Executive Director Dr. Robin Rabindranath
Maraj, we are an innovative and dynamic multi-campus tertiary-level educational and
training institution. Our objective is to provide the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and the
wider region, with access to globally recognised and industry-relevant programmes from
world renowned universities and professional associations.
Great Learning . Rewarding Lives
The Institution
Our aim is to continue playing a major role in transforming and advancing the lives of our
region’s most valuable natural resource – its people.
Dr. Robin Rabindranath Maraj, Executive Director, SBCS
Dr. Robin R. Maraj is the Founder and Executive Director of the School of Business
and Computer Science Ltd. (SBCS). Dr. Maraj established SBCS on February 13, 1987
and for over twenty-eight (28) years he has functioned as Leader and Executive Director,
guiding the evolution and development of the school from a simple educational centre,
to one of the region’s premier tertiary-level institutions. Originally located at #3 Santa
Cruz Old Road, San Juan for its first four years in operation, SBCS has grown into a
modern multi-campus establishment with locations in Champs Fleurs, Port of Spain,
Trincity and San Fernando.
Dr. Maraj holds an honours degree from the University of Ottawa specialising in
Information Systems and Management. He is an honorary fellow of the Association of
Business Executives (ABE (UK)), and in 2007 was awarded an honorary doctor of letters
for his work in tertiary education by Heriot-Watt University of Scotland.

Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University
Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, is the eighth-oldest higher education
institution in the United Kingdom originating as the School of Arts of Edinburgh in
1821. It received its university charter in 1966. The name commemorates George Heriot
– the 16th century financier to King James, and James Watt – the great 18th century
inventor and engineer.
The Edinburgh Business School boasts one of the world’s largest Masters of Business
Administration programmes, offered on-campus or around the world by distance education,
and assessed by rigorous subject exams. As one of the world’s leading business and
management schools, Edinburgh Business School offers students a rigorous and rewarding
programme of study. Whether MBA, MSc or DBA, the courses are among the most sought
after in the business world and the qualifications among the most highly regarded. The
School has a 21-year history of delivering MBAs, both by distance learning and through
a network of 25 Approved Learning Partners across the world – a truly global programme
that now has 12,000 graduates and 8,000 active students.
Founded in 1854, the Watt Club is the oldest alumni association in the UK. The Watt
Club now incorporates Heriot-Watt University’s Alumni Association and has branches as
far afield as Australia, Norway and the USA. Membership of the Watt Club is automatic on
graduation and free to all graduates of Heriot-Watt. On January 29th, 2010, the Caribbean
Chapter of the alumni association was launched at the Trinidad Hyatt in Port of Spain.

Academic Director,

The University of Greenwich is home to a thriving community of over 23,000 students
of all ages. Students from over 140 countries choose to study at Greenwich, part of an
international student community of 4,000.
The University traces its roots to 1890, when Britain’s second polytechnic was opened near
the Thames at Woolwich to teach practical and commercial skills to London workers. An
innovator from the start, the polytechnic pioneered the country’s first part-time day-release
and sandwich courses. Over the years a range of specialist organisations have joined the
institution, giving it diverse strengths in subjects such as Teacher Training, Architecture,
Engineering and History. The name Thames Polytechnic was adopted in 1970. The
institution became the University of Greenwich when it was awarded university status
in 1992.
Since the 19th century, the University has expanded from a technical institution to a
regional leader, teaching a range of subjects across engineering, natural sciences, social
sciences, humanities and business. Its research focus is applied science with strong links to
the scientific community.
The University has three campuses: Avery Hill, in the south-east London district of
Eltham; Greenwich, in the historic London borough; and Medway, which is in Chatham
Maritime, Kent.
Students benefit from a research environment where staff share their expertise and specialist
facilities. Greenwich sets high standards for teaching quality and provides professional
training opportunities for all lecturers.

University of Leicester
The University of Leicester was founded in 1921 and received its Royal Charter and
degree-awarding powers in 1957. Located in the East Midlands of England, it has a high
national and international profile and is engaged in leading-edge research and high quality
teaching. It is consistently ranked in the top 15 universities in the UK and was positioned
161st globally by the Times Higher in 2013. The University of Leicester’s levels of student
satisfaction have been consistently in the top-10 since the annual National Student Survey
commenced in 2005 and was ranked top after Oxbridge in the 2011 survey amongst
120 mainstream public universities in the UK. The University has approximately 21,000
registered students: around 14,000 of them studying full-time and 7,000 studying parttime and/or at a distance. The research conducted by the University has the strongest
impact of any UK Midlands university measured by citations per academic and is worldleading in many disciplines.

Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor
(International),

University of Sunderland
The University of Sunderland is located in Sunderland, North East England. The University
has more than 17,500 students, including 7,000-plus international students from some
70 countries. Sunderland’s motto is Scientiam Dulce Hauriens which translates ‘Sweetly
absorbing knowledge’.
The University’s roots can be traced back to 1901, when Sunderland Technical College
was established as a municipal training college on Green Terrace. It was the first to offer
sandwich courses. Naval architecture and pharmacy were introduced between the two
World Wars.
Sunderland Polytechnic was established on January 1, 1969, incorporating the Technical
College, the School of Art (which was also established in 1901) and the Sunderland Teacher
Training College (established in 1908). In 1992 the Polytechnic gained University status.
The University has been providing higher education in the city since 1901. The key to this
longevity is its ability to adapt to change - something that former Education Secretary
Estelle Morris highlights:

Graduation Celebration - Class of 2015
“The University is extremely good at adapting - constantly seizing new agendas and
changing with society...when new ideas are announced academia trails in their wake,
taking too long to adjust but Sunderland takes its opportunities and leads the field.”
This approach has led to many awards and the University is regularly asked to pilot new
Government initiatives and projects.
