Why we plan outages
By Kris Ingenthron, General Manager
H
ave you ever received
a notification from
the folks here at
Marias River Electric
Cooperative informing you
of a “planned outage?” You
may have wondered, “what is
a planned outage?” and “why
does Marias River Electric
need to perform one?”
Occasionally, the
equipment we use to bring
power to your home needs to
be replaced, repaired or
updated. When this happens,
as a way to keep our crews
and you safe, we plan an
interruption to electric service.
We do our best to plan
these outages during times
4
when you will be least inconvenienced, so we often perform planned outages during
school and business hours.
We also try to avoid
planning these outages during very cold winter days or
extremely hot summer days.
We understand these are peak
times of the year when you
depend on running your
heating and cooling units
the most.
While they may sound
slightly inconvenient,
planned outages are actually
beneficial to you, our members. Regular system
upgrades are necessary for
optimal performance, and
they increase our overall reli-
ability. Repairing and
upgrading our equipment is
also critical to maintaining
public safety. If older lines
need to be replaced, we plan
for it and then repair or
replace it, and that keeps
everyone safe.
Planned outages also allow
us to keep you informed of
when and how long you will
be without power. We will
notify you three to five days
before an outage, so you can
be prepared. We also keep
you aware of when line
crews will be working in
your area.
Here at Marias River
Electric Cooperative, we
want to make sure we are
doing everything we can to
keep you safe and to keep
our system running smoothly.
So, the next time you hear
about a planned outage,
know that it is one of the best
ways we can provide you
with quality electric service.
Cooperatively yours,

e need your help to locate some of Marias River
Electric’s past members. In May of this year, the
Board of Trustees authorized the retirement of
$299,457.72 of assigned capital credits earned in 2001.
The following name list represents members who received
service and earned capital credits in prior years, and have
since moved or left our cooperative service area. We have
sent their checks to the last known address. However, the
checks have been returned to our office. If you have a current address for any of the people listed, please contact the
office at 406-434-5575.
In the case of a deceased member, the legal heir or personal representative may claim the capital credits due. We
would like to see the rightful owner receive these checks.
In the event that past members cannot be located to claim
their capital credit retirement checks, unclaimed funds will
be used for education within our service territory. We
appreciate your assistance and value your membership
with Marias River Electric Cooperative.
