Introduction

In 2010, we celebrated what would
have been the 200th birthday of
Oliver F. Winchester, founder of the
Winchester® brand. This year also
sees the return of two legendary
models, the Model 94™ and the
Winchester SXP™ pump shotgun.
Last year we introduced the updated Model 70™ and this year we
are strengthening the line with two
new models.

The history of Winchester® was an
integral part of the conquest of
the West...
2010 marks the bicentennial of the
birth of Oliver Fisher Winchester.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts
on 30 November 1810, he found
financial success in the manufacture
of shirts, and began his industrial
venture in 1857 in the field of arms
and ammunition by investing in an
existing company in Connecticut:
the Volcanic Repeating Arms
Company, based in New Haven 80
miles east of New York, becoming
the principal stockholder and
president.
Although he was not an inventor, he
had a precise idea of the arms that
he hoped to see produced.
He wanted them to be lighter and
not limited to a single shot. He also
agreed on the importance of safety
and metallic ammunition.
Winchester® entrusted a talented
gunsmith, Benjamin Tyler Henry,
with the mission of refining the
mixtures of powder and mercury
fulminate to improve the propulsion
of the projectiles and to produce
rifled barrels to refine the precision
of the shots as early as 1860.
A year later, Henry perfected the
first repeating rifle with a tubular
magazine. The cowboys and gold
prospectors appreciated that.
A legendary weapon is born.
Winchester® did not directly profit
from the Civil War, which lasted
from 1861 until 1865. Nevertheless,
the fact that the army spurned his
weapons encouraged him to favour
selling to individuals and to export.
This strategy would pay off at the end
of the war when Oliver Winchester
took control of the business that he
renamed the Winchester Repeating
Arms Company® in 1867.
One year earlier, he had created
the “Model 1866”, with its yellow
receiver, which quickly became
known as Yellow Boy.
A further development of the rifle
created by Henry, was the Winchester ® rifle capable of using
centrefire ammunition with a lever
action which turned out to be a
very useful defensive weapon for
the time, but also for combat and
was appreciated for hunting.
The versatility of the weapon led
to the sales of more than 100,000
in the first seven years of its
production.
A legendary weapon was born - the
rifle that conquered the West.
Other Winchester models followed, fine vintages like champagne: the 1873 (Model 73, .44
cal.), the 1876, the 1892, and the
1894, the first .30 or .32 calibre
Winchester specially conceived for
hunting that later was all the rage
in Hollywood films.

Oliver Winchester died in New Haven on 11 December 1880.
In 1901, one John Moses Browning
approached FN Herstal in Belgium
and the start of today’s relationship
was born making guns under
licence.
Eighty years later, in 1981, the
Winchester Repeating Arms® plant
was purchased by FN Herstal.
Thus, Winchester ® remains a recognised brand of arms and ammunition.
Thousands of shooters – clay or
game, own at least one or use the
ammunition.

The M.O.A.™ Trigger System of the
Model 70™ operates on a simple lever principle. The trigger A, actuator B, and sear C are shown above.
All internal components, axis’s and
springs, are carefully precisionmade in stainless steel.
This is one of the characteristics
that allowed the Model 70™ rifle to
be chosen as the ”Bolt-action Rifle
of the Century”.
We have again improved the threeposition safety on the new Model
70™. It has proved effective and
highly popular with hunters and
shooters for decades.
The barrels for the Model 70™ are
produced in the same American
plant that produces barrels for
the rifles and machine guns used
by the American Armed Forces all
across the world.
In addition, in order to increase
their resistance to corrosion, and
for a maximum reduction of parasitic friction, the sear and actuator have received a nickel Teflon
plating.
The wide-jaw puller slides smoothly
and contacts about a quarter of the
base of the cartridge, which allows
perfect control from the time it
leaves the magazine and enters the
chamber, then immobilises it until it
is completely ejected.
A blade-type ejector allows full
control when ejecting a case. Pull
the bolt back slowly and the empty
case gently pops out, which is perfect for target shooters and vermin
control rifles.
Pull the bolt back quickly and the
case to exits the chamber with
greater force. The blade-type ejector helps to eliminate short-stroking malfunctions.
This proven concept allows the
extraction of an unfired cartridge
even if it has not been completely
introduced into the chamber.
Convenient to operate with the
thumb of the firing hand, the Model
70™ safety lifts the firing pin away
from the sear. When the safety is
in the middle position, the bolt can
still be operated, allowing unfired
cartridges to be ejected with the
safety on.
It engages smoothly, and it allows
easy determination of the safety
status of the rifle.
Each Model 70™ barrel is cold hammered from a solid billet of steel for
excellent accuracy and longevity.
Rotary hammers shape the barrel
around a mandrel to create the
rifling.
The barrel is threaded, bevelled,
and installed on the receiver. The
chamber is then reamed and the
bolt is headspaced.

Triple Zero Advantage
The new Model 70™ M.O.A™ Trigger
System is the most precise three
lever trigger system in the world.
Don’t be satisfied with a mediocre
trigger design that has secondary
levers, gadgets, and other novelties.
Operating on a simple pivoting
lever principle, this mechanism has
been completely redesigned to exhibit zero take-up, zero creep, and
zero overtravel.
Experience the precision and
control of the M.O.A.™ Trigger System on the new Model 70™ rifle.
The pull weight ranges between 1.3
to 2.3 kg. and is factory-set at 1.4
kg. Because of the enhanced ergonomics, wide smooth trigger shoe
and 2:1 mechanical advantage, it
actually feels like half that weight.

The M.O.A.™ Trigger System trigger
shoe offers a wide, smooth surface
to better distribute finger pressure,
hence the touch sensation is lighter
and more comfortable.
Take-up is the distance travelled by
the trigger shoe before the trigger
activates the firing system and the
shooter feels an increase in the
resistance in its movement.
Creep is the perceptible travel of
the trigger before freeing the firing
pin.
It may move the weapon from its
visual target point and interfere
with the shooter.
Thanks to the new M.O.A.™ trigger
geometry and its 2:1 mechanical
advantage, when the trigger is displaced by X, the actuator that pulls
the sear back is displaced by 2X.
The trigger travel necessary for a
shot is thus considerably reduced.
Any perception of trigger travel or
of overtravel is virtually eliminated.
The new Model 70™ M.O.A. System
eliminates take-up because a takeup elimination spring maintains a
permanent contact between the
upper trigger boss and the actuator.
Creep has a negative influence on
accuracy as it adds incoherence and
uncertainty during the action on
the trigger by causing the trigger
to flutter and thus move the rifle
during the shot.
This is why the new Model 70™
M.O.A.™ Trigger System is adjusted
at the factory to have no noticeable
overtravel.
You shoot exactly where you aim.
The 2:1 mechanical advantage
created by the unique geometry
of the trigger permits the virtual
elimination of creep in the new
Model 70™ M.O.A.™ System.

A modern and extremely precise
rifle. The buttstock of the Ultimate
Shadow is unique and very comfortable; it asks only to be tried. This
modern buttstock is also strong and
light at the same time. It will withstand bad weather and allow you to
use it with intensity in the field.
In addition to all of the technical innovations found on the new Model
70™, this Classic Hunter version
has the feature of being equipped
with adjustable battue rib sights.
Its battue strip and fibre-optic
foresight that is adjustable in all
positions allow rapid and precise
shots without a scope.
This classic version of the Model
70™ is characterised by an angled
comb walnut buttstock ending with
a tapered hand guard. It is enriched
by a satin finish with elegant cut
cross hatching. A Pachmayr “Decelerator” pad helps absorb recoil.

The Prestige of a Name
There are no more prestigious
names that have been associated
than those of Winchester ® and
the Model 1894. In 1862, Oliver
Fisher Winchester agreed to
commercialize the Henry rifle.
Then in 1893 John M. Browning
appeared on the scene, accompanied by the Model 1894, using
the new 30-30 cartridge, opening
the way to a new era in the development of firearms.
In 2010, we are launching two
limited editions of the Model 94™
that commemorate the 200th
anniversary of the birth of Oliver
Fisher Winchester, a visionary of
great destiny whose name has
become celebrated across the
world.

There is no better way to celebrate the return of the legendary
Winchester® Model 94™ than by this
homage to Oliver Fisher Winchester.
Model 1894 started its life on John
M. Browning’s workbench and was
the first sporting rifle to use modern
calibres. The Model 94™ is reputed
to have killed more deer than any
other rifle in the world. More than
six million of them have been sold
and it has become the most popular
rifle in history, by far.

High Grade
The Custom Grade model, which
commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Oliver F. Winchester, is endowed with the choice
of either Grade IV or V American
walnut. Deep gilded engravings
cover both sides of the bronzed
receiver. This rifle has a magnificent
24” (61 cm) half-circular, half-octagonal bronzed barrel.
The Custom Grade Model 94™ is
very limited. Only 500 numbered
commemorative Custom Grades,
paired with a High Grade Model
94™, will be produced.
The Winchester High Grade Model
94™ also honours and commemorates the 200th anniversary of the
birth of Oliver F. Winchester in New
England in 1810 - a particularly fitting way to remember a gentleman
whose genius and vision saw the
potential of a product in the development of firearms.
The model is richly decorated with
fine engravings and carries the
signature of Oliver F. Winchester on
the top of the breech. The left side
of the receiver displays the historic shield of Winchester Repeating
Arms®.

The SX3™ has been redesigned
to make it the most reliable and
fastest semi-automatic shotgun
with the most reliable recoil. It
operates as simply as possible
through the use of a gas piston
with an internal Active Valve that
adjusts automatically so that you
can reliably use a wide range of
loads.
The gas piston and Active Valve
operate independently, which
means that less pressure is
applied to the piston to achieve
greater longevity and enhanced
efficiency. The extremely short
piston stroke also limits the amount
of combustion gas that enters the
receiver for cleaner, more reliable
operation.
Thanks to these inserts, the
buttstock length can be adjusted
from 363 mm to 377 mm
(Composite version) and from 358
mm to 372 mm (wood version).
With the SX3™, you can fire all
ammunition types, from light loads
to heavy magnums, and even steel
pellets.
The unique metallic grey of the new
SX3™ is a high-resistant finish that,
in addition to having a beautiful
appearance, is extremely resistant
to corrosion, even in extreme
conditions.
With light loads (28 g), most of the
gas is used in arming.
With heavy loads (56 g), the Active
Valve system adjusts automatically
and expels the excess gas.

The SX3™ Field is ideal for all
kinds of hunting, particularly due
to its 76 mm chambered 12-gauge
magnum barrel allowing the firing
of shotshells of different loads, as
well as those with steel pellets.

The design of the handle and hand
guard also contribute to very good
operation and to the vivacity of this
weapon.
A shotgun as comfortable in the
marsh as well as in the field, or in a
driven hunt for boars or roe deer:
the SX3™ Combo is the shotgun for
all uses. This is how we baptised our
SX3™ Combo, a shotgun delivered in
a case with two barrels and two hand
guards. A 61 cm rifled slug barrel
ideal for shooting slugs, and a smooth
71 cm barrel fitted with removable
chokes. An integrated track and an
extension of the slug barrel allow for
installation of a scope.
The big-game version of the SX3™,
the Big Game Composite model
has formidable efficiency for driven
hunts as a result of the following
characteristics: great accuracy with
the rifled 61 cm barrel, ultra fast
aiming with its special fibre-optic
battue sight and rear sight, and
also an integrated track allowing
easy mounting of a red dot scope.
A latest-generation anti-recoil pad
is also used to improve the comfort
of the shot even more.

This is the hunting version of the
”shooting machine” of choice for
Patrick Flanigan, the Winchester®
exhibition marksman who holds
numerous records. A tubular
magazine with a 7-shell capacity
provides significant firepower
in this semi-automatic magnum
chambered shotgun, and can shoot
shots made of steel pellets.
This composite version of the SX3™
presents a futuristic and very
hi-tech appearance. This is due
to the association of a composite
buttstock and hand guard of avantgarde design with the exclusive
treatment of the receiver and barrel in anthracite grey. The SX3™ is
also chambered 3.5’’ (89 mm) for
firing heavy loads, including steel
buckshot.
This model is designed for hunts
where discretion is required, shares
the same features as the composite
SX3™, meaning, chambered 3.5’’
(89 mm), proofed with steel shot,
composite buttstock and hand
guard, and inserts for adjusting the
buttstock. The famous Mossy-Oak®
New Break-Up® camouflage coating

numbers 6 or 7 that are perfectly

The Special Chasse shell is for
driven hunts of pheasants or
partridges as well as walked-up
game. With its 34 g load, plastic
wad, 16 mm head and high speed,
it is effective for shooting numerous
different game animals, and its
range does a remarkable job for
shooting partridges or for highflying pheasants. The Special
Chasse has the most general use of
any of our specific shells. In number
4, the shot is nickeled for excellent
range and penetration. It is the
ideal shell for hare hunting.
The Special Migrateur was
designed with small birds in mind
(woodcocks, quails, etc.). Its 32 g
load, wad cup and speed less
than 400 m/s concentrates and
regulates its pattern so that its
coverage is nearly perfect. This
shell is gentle to shoot, which is
important when trushes are flying
back and forth, is chambered in
67 mm and may be shot in all gun
types, whether new or old models.
The Special Petits Calibres were
designed to offer a 20 gauge shell
with the same performance as a 12
gauge shell. Two shells form this
family and they differ in their shot
loads, 28 g for one and 32 g for the
other. In both cases, the shots are
nickeled for greater penetration
of the pellets along with a better
pattern. The Special Petits Calibres
will enable you to hunt all types of
game at any time of year with your
20 gauge!

High-density pellets for extreme performances
The line of Drylok shells was
specifically designed to resist
oxidation and corrosion, which are
two inevitable facts of hunting in
humid areas.
Developed in the United States,
this steel shotshell is completely
waterproof as the result of different
innovations from Winchester ®.
The steel shot was first specially
treated against corrosion, the star
crimp was hot welded, its wad is
also waterproof from its bipartite
construction, and, lastly, the primer
was varnished in order to prevent
any humidity from entering.
The tungsten load is 55% denser
than steel and 10% denser than
lead, which enables it to maintain
high energy and speed while
guaranteeing excellent penetration
of the pellets at great distances.
Due to the high density of
tungsten, it is possible to shoot
pellets with the same lead number
as those that are traditionally used
with lead shells, which considerably
increases (35%) the number of
pellets that will reach the target in
relation to steel shells.

The ballistic performances of steel
cartridges are exceptional due to
high muzzle speeds (420 m/s) that
guarantee efficiency and energy
even at long distances, as well
as superb pattern that results in
pellets that are not deformed when
they pass through the chokes.
Steel pellets meet today’s
environmental concerns and thus
advantageously replace traditional
cartridges where lead usage is now
regulated or even banned.
The X2 steel and Silver steel
are already favourites for many
experienced shooters, and
their efficiency will seduce you,
whatever your discipline may be.

Lastly, the plastic wads that are
specific for steel offer greater
resistance and their design
prevents any contact between
the pellets and muzzles, thus a
complete protection of both parts.
Cartridges classified as ”high performance” are used only in steel
prooved shotguns, marked as ”Steel Shot” or ”Billes d’acier” with a
Fleur-de-Lys.
Steel has a lower density than lead.
In order to compensate for this loss in mass and energy, it is necessary
to use a lower lead number pellet than the one usually used for lead
shotshells.
