Just a few weeks after the American Civil
War, Oliver Winchester took over the Repeating Arms Company and gave it his family name. So, the new company formed in
this way became the Winchester Repeating
Arms Company. This happened in 1865 and
the following year Oliver Winchester created the famous 1866 model, affectionately
named the “yellow boy” due to the yellow
bronze color of its receiver. This traditional lever action rifle was a multi-purpose
firearm, a defensive weapon of course, but
an offensive weapon as well – we were right
in the middle of the conquest of the west
– and above all a hunting gun. 100,000
rifles were sold in only seven years. The
Winchester legend was born and nothing
was ever to stop it. Different models followed on, one after the other, the 1873,
the 1892 and above all the 1894, the first
specially designed shotgun produced by
the company with the Pony Express logo.
Little by little, the range of shotguns expanded as new requirements had to be met.
The range of cartridges existing at the time
was limited and Winchester needed to find
new calibers for its latest firearms. This explains why, throughout the 20th century,
Winchester was to give birth to magnificent cartridges like the .243, the .270, the
.284, the .300 Magnum and the .338, which
are all as many bestsellers. This quest for
the perfect cartridge did not stop on such
good tracks; in the more recent past, Short
Magnums like the .270WSM and the Super
Short Magnum have come onto the market
to remind us of Winchester’s incredible
experience and its extraordinary qualities
of innovation in the field of shotgun ammunition. All this know-how can be found
in the incredibly wide range of centerfire
cartridges with over 100 references from
.218 to .375 calibers. Rifle cartridges have
not been neglected either, with almost 170
possible variations, including 30 products
containing non toxic shot!
2009 will once again confirm Winchester’s
lead in technology :
Jointly developed by Nosler and Winchester the novel E-Tip with its "E² - Energie
& Expansion" cavity is a solid bullet with
no lead content that guarantees maximum
expansion and stopping power.(page 35)
In rifle ammunition, the new SAFARI range
has been designed for hunting the biggest
animals in Africa in complete confidence.
It combines the famous .375 H&H Magnum
and .458 Winchester Magnum calibres with
the best bullets on the market for hunting
in Africa, the Nosler® Partition® and the
new Nosler Solid™.(page 34)
Over 50 years ago, Winchester revolutionized the world of smooth-bore cartridges
when it introduced the Super Speed which
was to become the reference in terms of
speed and performance at long range.
In 2009 with the new Super Speed Generation 2 Winchester is perpetuating this
myth. With the new G2 powder, speeds are
considerably increased whilst maintaining
moderate pressure at the same time.(page
48)
For marshland shoots, the Xtended range
of cartridges uses an original, non-toxic
tungsten-based alloy with a density higher
than lead. The cartridges can be fired at
very long range whilst keeping maximum
energy at the same time (page 54). The
range of steel shot cartridges has also
been widened to guarantee that you will
be able to find the cartridge best suited to
your way of shooting and to your gun. This
range of cartridges as well as the Xtended
range benefit from a Winchester innovation, Drylok, a process for protecting cartridges from damp and oxidation. The ever
increasing success of Drylok and Xtended
has been confirmed by the arrival of the
new 12/70mm calibre cartridges
Finally, our range of sporting cartridges has
been enriched by the arrival of the Parcours
28g, incredibly effective ammunition for
sporting clays due to its exceptionally high
speed.(page 60)
Sporting cartridges are also avaialble with
steel shot. Their ballistic performances are
exceptional with extremely high muzzle
speeds (420 m/s) guaranteeing not only
energy and effectiveness at long range
but superb shot patterns as well, due to
the non-deformation of the shot when it
goes through the chokes. Classified under
standards pressures, they can be used in all
guns tested at 930 Bar. (pages 60 and 63)

Only the new G2 powder specially developed for the Super Speed generation 2 36g can reconcile
parameters that are in principle, incompatible: increasing shot speed without increasing pressure
developed by powder combustion!
Standards in force at present limit pressure to 740 BAR for a so-called “standard” cartridge that can
be shot from most traditional guns
The secret of G2 powder lies in its controlled burn and the reduction in the pressure developed for
a given quantity of powder and weight of shot.
The new Super speed generation 2 36g is loaded with a higher quantity of powder which increases
speed by virtually 20 m/s, but maintains pressure under the 740 BAR limit at the same time.

The Game Special cartridge is designed for pheasant
or partridge drives and open-country hunting. With its
34 g load, petal-type wad, 16 mm base and its high
speed, it is a highly effective shell for numerous types
of game and its range is remarkable for crossing partridge or high-flying pheasant. The Game Special is the
best all-purpose shell in our special range. In N°4, the
shot is nickel-plated for optimal range and penetration.
It's the ideal cartridge for shooting hare.
From thrush to woodcock, passing via quail, the Migratory Special has been designed and developed for
hunting small and medium-sized migratory birds. Its
32g load, its container wad and its speed of under
400 m/s concentrate its shot pattern and even out the
density of shot so that coverage is just as perfect as
possible. This low-recoil shell, something that may be
important when there are large numbers of thrushes
passing through, has a 67 mm chamber so that it can
be fired in all shotguns both ancient and modern.
The Small-Bore Special was created to give 20 gauge
owners maximum performance worthy of a 12 gauge.
The family is made up of two shells that differ in terms
of shot load, 28 g for one and 32 g for the other. In

design and manufacture. So, for the Supreme Double X range, the shot used is copper-plated and associated with a fine composite powder to avoid being distorted
on firing and provide better ballistic characteristics.
Super X cartridges have always been favorites of hunters the world over. Recently,
the family has grown even more with the arrival of the Supreme Double X. The
point in common to all these types of ammunition is that they always offer the
highest possible load for the same gauge. As a result, you can fire 36 g for the 20
magnum, 28 g for the 28 gauge and 14 and 19 g for the .410 and .410 magnum.
As far as the 12 gauge is concerned, you are now really spoilt for choice with loads

United States, this steel-shot cartridge has been made completely waterproof by using various

corrosion-resistant, the case’s star-setting is hot-welded, the wadding is also waterproof thanks

heavier than steel shots and 10% heavier than

Non-toxic, much denser than iron, gentler on barrels and

RANGER® DISPERSER
SUPER GREEN FIBER
The Special Fibre is THE cartridge for heavy undergrowth
where shooting is difficult. A fibre wad and its velocity
guarantee a regular wide shot pattern, whilst the 34 g
load guarantees that sufficient shot will reach its target
even when undergrowth separates you from the rabbit
or woodcock in your sights.
In some situations, shooting takes place at 15, 10 or
even only 7 to 8 metres. In this type of situation, a shot
scattering device is an essential. The Ranger Disperser,
calibre 12 or 20, gives you the widest possible shot
pattern at these short ranges. Three sizes of shot are
available for each of the two calibres.
As a hunter the environment is always a source of
concern the Supergreen has been specially designed
for people like you. With its cardboard case and fibre
wad, this ammunition creates minimum pollution. Even
so, its 36 g of lead shot and a velocity of 395 m/s make
it a formidable cartridge for all types of hunting.

The Super X slug is the rapid, flat-trajectory slug designed for Winchester smoothbore guns. Thanks to its
weight of 28 g and its hollow rear section, the slug
combines speed and accuracy. Ideal for roe deer and
boar, the Super X slug’s nose is slightly hollow for providing maximum impact surface and effect. Designed for
light and medium weight game and medium distance
shooting.
This bullet is designed for smoothbore guns. It is hollow
at the back, which moves its centre of gravity forwards
and gives it a flat trajectory which is, a guarantee of
accuracy. Ideal for medium distance shots, this hollow
point bullet possesses maximum expansion capacities
for optimal energy transfer when hunting medium-sized game.
Here is the heavy bullet that you need for hunting boar
or deer with your shotgun. The Brenneke bullet is assembled with a plastic base that serves as a shut-off
device for gasses to give it the best possible velocity
and as a guide for maximum accuracy. Due to its weight and its limited deformation on impact, the bullet
has very good penetration qualities. Designed for heavy game and medium distance shooting.

PARCOURS
With its steel shot load, the X2 Steel offers the best
compromise between performance and competitive
prices and complies with the strictest environmental
standards at the same time. In the standard pressure
class, it can be fired from all guns tested to 930 Bar.
In 24g and 28g, it is available with n° 7 shot to replace
n° 7.5 lead shot. Perfectly suited to skeet shooting, the
X2 Steel is also loaded with 24g of n° 9.
The newT2 plastic wad with its two compression zones,
one on top of the other, optimises shot distribution and
guarantees softer recoil despite its high speed.
Its very high speed (415 m/s) and 28g load in hardened, perfectly round lead make the new Winchester
Parcours incredibly effective ammunition for sporting
clays and similar disciplines, even very long distance
clays.
The traditional Winchester wad with its 3 compression
legs is a guarantee of smoothness and consistently perfect shot patterns and the famous double-base powder
loaded by Winchester provides perfect combustion under all weather conditions.

A real grease wad without any plastic obturator, associated with Winchester’s legendary know-how, make
the Trap 100 Fibre the ideal cartridge for clubs where
traditional plastic wads are not allowed for environmental reasons. Rigorous selection of every component
guarantees high-level performance and an optimal shot
pattern for short and medium distance shots.
STREUKREUZ
The SILVER is the most prestigious Winchester® sporting cartridge.
All its components have been selected for guaranteeing the best ballistic performances in all sporting
disciplines:
• Double-base powder for perfect regular combustion,
exceptional performances and perfect stability no
matter what the weather conditions may be.
• Reinforced 22 mm base for reducing deformation
to a minimum which, in turn, reduces wear to the
chamber.
• Base treated to avoid any oxidation.
• WW-27 wad for regular shot distribution.
The specialist sporting cartridges are also available
with steel shot. This top-of-the-range standard pressure ammunition can be used in all guns tested to 930
Bar. Steel shot is not deformed as it goes through the
chokes and in this way provides very high quality shot
patterns.
With its 36 g load and 20 mm base, this is a powerful,
effective cartridge, as it name indicates ideal for difficult ZZ-target shooting.
The Streukreuz 24g is a special cartridge designed for
short-distance shots when using sporting-clay guns.
Its skirted-cup wad is a guarantee of wide shot dispersion at very short distances even with a full choke.

Legia Hunting in its Bordeaux livery with a 67 mm
shell and a 32g load of hardened lead shot is the ideal
cartridge for walked-up small plains game shooting

its smoothness and the regularity of its shot patterns
when hunting either dove, pigeon or pheasant.
With a 22mm base, 34 g of hardened lead shot in a

The Legia Chasse is the specialist cartridge for longdistance shots at rapid game with thick plumage such

The steel shot shells have been produced principally for waterfowl hunting
over water and wetlands where the use of lead shot is prohibited by law.
Please be aware that steel shot:
• Can damage the gun barrels; please be sure your gun is designed for this
ammunitions
• There is no deformation of the steel shot; the danger of ricochet is higher
than with lead shot
Safety rules:
Do not shoot at short ranges and keep the trajectory free of any obstacle.
Wear eye and ear protection to protect them from possible ricochet of the
steel shot.
Be careful when eating game because steel shots may cause tooth damage.
Do not use these shells in gun having Damascus or twist steel barrels or
chambers shorter than shell length.
Be sure that your gun is in good condition and designed for modern ammunition of this gauge. It is very dangerous to use shells smaller than the gauge
of the weapon.
Cartridges classified "high performance" to be used only in guns designed for
steel shot cartridges and bearing the mark "Steel shot" or "Billes d’acier".
Pay attention to ricochets - avoid shooting at water and hard surfaces.

COMPARISON # SHOT
An appreciable advantage for steel, its lower density means that for the same load (24 or
28g) your steel cartridge contains 26% more N° 7 shot than N° 7.5 lead shot.
This advantage rises to 44% for n° 9 shot!
Steel cartridges’ ballistic performances are excellent due to the very high muzzle speeds
(420 m/s) which guarantee energy and effectiveness even at long distance, as well as
superb shot patterns as the shot is not deformed as it goes through the chokes.
Steel shot meets today’s environmental preoccupations and usefully replaces traditional
cartridges wherever the use of lead is subject to regulation or even banned.
Finally, wads with skirts specially intended for steel shot provide increased resistance and
their design prevents any contact between shot and barrels, which guarantees that the latter
are completely protected.
The X2 steel and the Silver steel have already convinced a great number of experienced
shooters and their effectiveness will undoubtedly win you over, no matter what sporting
discipline you practise.
